50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A MINI SKIRT WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40 | FASHION OVER 40As it turns out, yesterday was National Men Make Dinner Day. I thought that was interesting, and also not likely to happen at my house. Joe used to cook some when we first got married, but it was very little. He would man the grill for the most part, and occasionally cook us breakfast. Joe has pretty much handed all of the cooking over to me, and I have pretty much handed it over to takeout or scrounging. So, when Joe saw my Facebook post, he started coming up with ideas of dinner.
50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A MINI SKIRT WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40 | FASHION OVER 40Part of the rules of this National Day was that he had to use at least four ingredients and more than one utensil for cooking. My favorite part of the rules was that it said wearing an apron was optional. Lol! I tried my best to get him to wear an apron for me, but that didn’t happen. Lol! It turns out, a lot of my Facebook commenters thought Joe looked too “fine” to slave away in the kitchen. He LOVED all of those comments. I am not sure how he got his swelled head through the kitchen door as he brought me a Chicken Pot Pie from KFC. LOL! That was his idea of cooking, and he pointed out that it was made with more than four ingredients. Gotta love him!!!50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A MINI SKIRT WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40 | FASHION OVER 4050 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A MINI SKIRT WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40 | FASHION OVER 40
50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A MINI SKIRT WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40 | FASHION OVER 40I am wearing my Cable Dot sweater again from Cato Fashions. The last time (here) that I wore this sweater, I wore it with a fedora and corduroy pants. Today’s outfit is more on the feminine side than that one. I love a cable knit sweater, and I am especially drawn to them if they are made of a soft material. I am not a fan of scratchy wool for anything that is going to be touching my body. I bought this sweater in size XL so that it could be oversized and longer than what they show on the website. Sizing up works for that purpose as long as the item is not too large under the arms. Here is the link to the sweater, and I am linking to a few others that I love.

50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A MINI SKIRT WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40 | FASHION OVER 40This Leopard print scarf makes this outfit pop! This is a perfect example of how I say that accessories make the outfit. The entire outfit is all neutral colors, and they can get boring if you don’t add something to make the outfit zing. Sometimes we zing the outfit with a pop of color, today the zing is a pop of print. Here is the link to the scarf, and it is only $25.00.
50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A MINI SKIRT WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40 | FASHION OVER 40Someone asked the other day if corduroy is still in style,  The answer is, yes, and with a vengeance. It seems that the wide-wale material is what is in style for the skirts. I love the cute skirts, but they all seem to be on the shorter side. So, I added a pair of tights to the look to make me feel more comfortable. The tights that I wore are a pair that I have had for a while, and I never noticed how much they look like skin. When I pulled up the photos, I thought that I had a tan. LOL!

50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A MINI SKIRT WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40 | FASHION OVER 40When Joe came home from the airport, here is how he found me. Working on the computer and all snuggly warm in my YAWN sleep top and sitting under my Sunbeam Buffalo Plaid electric throw. Lucy Lu likes my throw also; she is snuggled up under my feet.
50 IS NOT OLD | HOW TO STYLE A MINI SKIRT WHEN YOU ARE OVER 40 | FASHION OVER 40I know that you gurls are all crushing on Joe, but ladies, he is all mine. Haha! You can keep your sweet-talking, gourmet cooking fellows, and I’ll keep my smart-mouthed, run by KFC kind of man. He is just right for me! Lol!

  1. Love the skirt with the ankle boots. You rock it.

  2. Can I just tell you….. I love that you shop at Walmart and put all these great outfits together that are SO affordable! It always irks me when I see an outfit on a fashion blog and when I click the links to the items they’re $300+! So not doable. Love your blog!

  3. I’m torn about the tights..I have the legs for them but think a darker color looks better, at least for me.

  4. Not so wild about a short skirt on women over 40, but I love how well you wear the sweater! I look so bulky in a cable knit sweater, but it looks so perfect on you! Love the scarf, too, but I love anything animal print.

  5. you look great and I love the outfit. I never wore animal prints before you, but now I am a lover of prints and have just gotten snake skin boots in both a grey and tan version. I think a leopard scarf is in my future! It would be great when a sweater is too much print.

  6. I didn’t even notice you had on tights until I read the post!

  7. Love the skirt and the scarf!! So cute and very slimming!

Looking HOT Tania! Don’t think my legs could pull off the skirt, (am a year older than you) but might try with darker tights. Inherited the vericose veins 🙁 Bought the corduroy pants (teal and wine) from Walmart, just arrived a few minutes ago in fact. They look and feel really good for under $16! Married 35 years next February and my husband used to do most of the cooking and no cleaning, and the last 3 years those roles have completely reversed! He doesn’t know why all of a sudden he wants a clean kitchen, but I’m NOT complaining. I also get Friday and Saturday off if I don’t want to cook, which I usually don’t. Still loving your blog. Have a great weekend!

    1. Monika, I am thrilled to hear that you liked the corduroy pants. Can you believe that price point???

  9. I’m having trouble with my older than dirt iPad loading the page. I love this look but since I wore the original hot pants look, I’m thinking I’m better passing on the skirt. I’ll just sub pants and I’m good to go. I need this scarf.

    1. I looks like a new iPad is on your Christmas list this year!

  10. LOVE that scarf! I am a redhead and Browns are a staple in my wardrobe. This is perfect to add that pop to some of my outfits. I immediately ordered it! Thanks! ❤️

    1. OH! That is awesome!!! I am glad this will work for you.

  11. Mary Phillips says:

You look fabulous in this outfit. Afraid my days of wearing short skirts are over, but you do us proud!

    1. I highly recommend tights, that helps ALOT!

  12. Christine George | Believe in Balance says:

    Nicely done. You look awesome!

  13. Linda Tice says:

Love your stories about Joe! I’ve been married for 45 years and my husband has never, ever cooked me a meal! He does a mean take-out though! LOL! Love your outfit…the long scarf really makes it!

    1. When you’ve been married that long, you have to have some good stories. Lol!
