HOW TO AFFORDABLY UPDATE YOUR HOME

Most of you are probably aware that Joe and I bought a home back in April. The house we currently live in is in the flood zone, and they will be buying us out, or at least that is the plan. Because everything is still up in the air, we haven’t moved out of the “old” house and into the “new” house.

So, Joe and I split our time between houses until the time comes when we will decide which house is going to be our full-time residence. I didn’t want to go out and buy all new furniture for the new house, so we purchased the furniture that was already in the house. It is nice furniture, but it isn’t necessarily my taste. However, I hate spending a fortune on furnishings, especially since I’m not positive that the new house will be our full-time residence.

I’ve been slowly, very slowly, adding a few pieces a little at a time. And, today, I am going to show you some of the finds that I found at Walmart Home, plus some things that I have on order that hasn’t arrived yet.

This salt lamp was a little find that made me happy. I love the atmosphere that the amber-colored light gives off, and these lamps are supposed to purify the air as well. I have this sitting in the hallway outside our bedroom door so that it also functions as a nightlight when Joe goes to get a drink of water in the middle of the night.

This is one of our upstairs bedrooms. I loved the furniture and the bedding, but the room looked bare to me. So, I ordered this WASHABLE rug from Walmart, and I am now in love with the whole room. I will probably replace the chair and ottoman eventually, but for now, it can stay.

Here is a closer view of the rug and print. The rug is lightweight, and it laid down flat as soon as I opened it. This is a large rug, 7’6″ x 9’6″, so I probably won’t throw it in my washing machine even though it is washable. If the time ever comes that it needs washing, I’ll either take it outside to be lightly sprayed with the pressure washer or take it to a commercial laundry mat.

You can find more styles and prints in the Washable Rug section at Walmart. I love this blue/brown/ivory rug, and I am looking for the perfect spot for it.

These cubbies are in all of my upstairs bathrooms. I don’t use them for decorations; I put towels and washcloths in them for our guests. I prefer buying all white towels and washcloths, especially since I haven’t decorated any of the bedrooms and don’t have a color scheme. But, when you purchase white, you can bleach them clean, and you don’t have to worry about what towel goes to what bathroom. Plus, these are fluffy and plush, and they feel very luxurious.

I’ve also updated the look of my bedroom in my older home. Joe is not a bedspread kind of guy, and he hates shams and pillows. Usually, our bed looks like this, just a blanket or a sheet.

But, when I found this bedding set at Walmart, I decided that he would have to deal with the change. I love the pintuck design of the bedding, and since white goes with everything, I knew that this would work for my new home, too, once we officially move. I’ve had this set for a while, so that is why it looks so wrinkled. I washed it the other day, and I hung it to dry instead of throwing it in the dryer.

Once Joe saw the bedding set and the pillow that said I LOVE US, he had to smile. He knew I would win this argument because who could fight over a pillow that said, I LOVE US???

I have a lot more things on order that hasn’t arrived yet. I thought that I would show you those too so you could see that you don’t have to spend a fortune to update your home.

Fireplace (I want to put this in my basement office) // Washable Rug // Living Room Chair // Thankful Pillow // Salt Lamp // Sofa Table // Gold Pineapple //  Home Pillow //

Casper Pillow // White Bedding Set // Gray Plush Blanket // Weighed Blanket (my parents love theirs) // Emersyn’s Bedding Set // White Towels and Washcloths // Bluetooth Scale //

Dinnerware 12 pc Set // Black Silverware // Spice Rack w/spices // Ninja Foodie 8-n-1 (I have and love) // Motion Sensored Trash Can //

I can’t wait to finally make my new house my new home! All of the items that I have found at the home department of Walmart are not only beautiful and practical; they are also affordable. When you are re-doing an entire house, that is a priority!

I have already started shopping for upcoming gifts, and I found a very helpful Gift Guide section that you might want to check out. Here is the one for HOME, for her, for himfor kids, and for those who love unique gifts.

Walmart makes it very convenient for its customers to shop, especially since most people have a store within 10 miles of their homes. Walmart has an extraordinary policy of free 2-day shipping and returns for purchases over $35!

Great post, Tania. Thanks for sharing this information. I’m also slowly decorating a new home and I wasn’t aware of all the tasteful choices Walmart Home has. I had never considered Walmart for home decor. Now I will.

Two things. Don’t put a drop of aroma oil in your salt lamp. (Don’t ask) and keep pink to a minimum in bedroom. When I finished my kitchen with its caramel walls and light brown cabinets with accents of orange, my SIL walked in and said, “It looks like a Reese’s peanut butter cup exploded in here”. IGNORE them.

I really enjoyed this post Tania! Since I am fairly new to your blog, I was unaware about why y’all have bought a new home. So, now I know! I really like the things that you have already received and are waiting on from Wal-Mart. The salt lamp is something I would like to purchase if I can figure out a good spot for it. So, Larry is just like Joe, in that he does not like messing with a comforter and pillow shams. We have a fairly new set that I love, but the only time I put it on the bed is when we have guests that have never been in our home. With COVID that isn’t happening, so it’s folded up nicely in a corner. The cubby holes in the upstairs bathrooms are perfect for guest towels! We live in a very rural area; the closest Wal-Mart is 35 miles away, so I do order from them often. I am way more impressed with the efficiency of their deliveries than I am with Amazon, even out here in the sticks. I wish you a fabulous day!

What is with men and comforters??? Where I live, we have a Walmart fairly close, but the selection is so much better online that I hardly ever go into the store. I find their deliveries fast also, and I hope it continues as it gets closer to Christmas.
