Since I wear glasses enough while working that they’re part of my everyday appearance, I’m willing to invest more in a frame I really like rather than treating glasses as something I need to hide.

I especially like a classic frame because I’m not interested in buying expensive glasses that suddenly feel dated next year. I’m going to be wearing them right in the middle of my face, so I want to love them.

Obviously, I can’t give you a full review yet because I haven’t worn them. That’s exactly the kind of distinction I want to make when I’m sharing products with you.

I actually like having different frame colors and styles instead of buying several identical pairs. Glasses are accessories, so you might as well have choices.

One thing I do want to point out: you’ll see “blue light blocking” on lots of glasses now. I wouldn’t buy a pair based solely on promises that blue-light lenses will protect your eyes from computer screens. I look more at the frame, magnification, fit, and how I plan to use them.

The Ray-Ban Clubmaster shape has been around forever, which is actually one of the reasons I like it. If you’re going to spend more on glasses, I think choosing a classic frame makes sense. This doesn’t look like a pair you bought strictly for sitting at a computer. It looks like regular eyewear you’d happily wear outside the house.

This would be more of an investment pair for someone who would rather own one or two glasses she loves than have inexpensive readers tucked into every drawer.

Of course, I’m apparently trying both approaches. Lol!

Oversized frames can be a lot of fun, and they’re especially good if you want your glasses to look like part of your style.

Since a larger frame already makes a statement, I would probably keep the rest of my accessories fairly simple.

Of course, that assumes I’ll remember to put them back beside the chair after I use them. Mine would probably turn up two days later in the kitchen, and I wouldn’t have the slightest idea why.

A square frame can also balance softer facial features and add a little structure around your face.

How I Choose Reading Glasses Now

I’ve bought enough glasses over the years to know that cute isn’t the only thing that matters.

I pay attention to:

• Magnification or prescription. If I can’t see through them, I don’t care how adorable they are.
• Comfort. Glasses that pinch behind my ears or slide constantly down my nose aren’t going to get worn.
• Frame size. I like enough frame to make an impact, but I don’t want to feel like I’m looking through two windshields.
• Color. Black, tortoiseshell, clear, and other neutrals are easy to wear, but sometimes a colorful frame is exactly what an outfit needs.
• Where I’ll use them. Readers I keep around the house don’t have to do the same job as prescription glasses I wear regularly.

And if you notice a meaningful change in your vision instead of simply needing the magnification you’ve been using, that’s a conversation for your eye doctor rather than a stronger pair of drugstore readers.

I just waited for my latest prescription before ordering new glasses myself.

Reading Glasses Can Be Part of Your Style

Needing reading glasses doesn’t bother me nearly as much as not being able to find them when I need them. Lol!

I don’t think we need to hide our glasses or apologize for wearing them. We’re at a stage where eyewear can be every bit as stylish as the rest of our accessories.

Try tortoiseshell. Try clear frames. Try a cat-eye. Wear the oversized pair you weren’t sure you could pull off.

And if you’re like me, you might want to buy more than one pair. Not because you need options. Because one of them is currently on top of your head, another is in your purse, and you’ve been searching the house for both of them for the last twenty minutes.
