WHAT FALLS OFF A TRUCK
Are you scratching your head, wondering what in the world I am talking about? This is probably not the first time you have done that, especially if you read my blog regularly. Lol. So, what falls off a truck? Well, lots of things can fall off of a truck, I even fell one time that resulted in stitches. Maybe that story can wait for another blog post. This story is more about the gullibility of a child.
As a child, we spent a lot of time camping at the lake. The lake was only about 20 minutes from the house, so we would go almost every weekend, and two or three times a year, we would set up camp for a week. We would stay at the lake, and my dad would drive in to his work. I don’t know if he really needed to go to work, since he was the boss, or if he just needed to get away from us kids. Anyway, on the weekends, lots of friends and their children would come over to the campsite. There was always lots of games, especially a rousing game of volleyball. The men were really serious about their volleyball. That is where my story about my pet skunk took place.
We had one friend named Colin (pronounced like colon) who was always jolly and rolley polley. He was always one of the kids favorites, for a lot of reasons, but one of the BIG reasons was because things would just “fall off his truck.” He was a long haul semi-truck driver, and I remember one time he brought us a HUGE box of those big oversized chocolate bars. All of us kids went crazy, we couldn’t believe he was going to let us have all these bars. “They fell off my truck” was what he told us.
WooHoo!!! It was our lucky day! Later on, we started wondering about how that worked, why didn’t he just put the box back on the truck? When did it fall off, was he driving down the road? How did he see it fall, did he turn around and go back to pick it up? Strange thing was, things just kept falling off his truck, even a box of steaks fell off one time. But the weirdest thing that ever fell off his truck, was Coca Cola’s. How did those things not break? I sure miss Colin, he passed away years ago, but I always smile when I think of him. You can’t ask for more than that in life. Here is a look at my outfit of the day, a view from the side. You can see the Dooney & Bourke purse, I have brought out of the closet, great. This is one of my “go-to” purses for the summer. I love the white color with the brown trim. It looks dressy, but still casual. So, it can easily be carried with dresses, or with jeans. I like a quality purse, that is one thing I will spend money for. It is a little easier for me, having the QVC store in town. Maybe one day I will go and do a video of what they have for sale. They do not have an online store. Here is almost the same purse, and it is on sale.
The shoes are from the QVC store also, and they are by Issac Mizrahi. They are an off white wedge, with a cute little bow on top. I wore these a lot last summer, especially with dresses and nicer shorts. They are a little dressier than sandals. Here is a cute pair of peep-toes, and here is a pair of TOMS that are really cute. These red pants grab your eye, don’t they? I bought these while in Florida with the intention of wearing them for the post I did with the Sister Project Act ladies. I knew I would get a lot of wear out of them, since red is one of my favorite colors. I bought these at Gap, but here is a similar pair that works for misses, petites, and plus size. Here is a plus size that comes in a wide variety of colors, and here is a misses pair from Target that comes in several colors as well.
This boho print top is several years old. I bought it a Cato’s at least 2 years ago, maybe longer. Here is how I styled it last time, a little more casual. Here is a similar top, and a similar top that I love the back on. This is a plus size top, that they show as a dress, it would be cute either way. My navy linen blazer is an Ann Taylor, and it is very old, faded, and needs to be replaced. It is one of those items I just can’t part with. Here is a similar (misses), a Similar (petite), and a Similar (plus).
So meet the newest member of the family, Lucy Loo. She has really came into her own these last couple of days. She still is a little skittish when you go to pet her, she will lower her head, and look a little afraid. Then she is all happy, tail wagging, and dancing with her feet, in just a second. Beckley tolerates her well, and she pays him hardly any attention. She will be going to the vet next week for a check-up and shots. I have noticed when she runs, she doesn’t run with one of her back legs, she will hold it up and run on three feet. When she walks, she is fine. I will have him look to see if maybe she was hit, or something, and is healing. She is laying right here beside me, she seems right at home.

Cute outfit. The dog is a cutie.
Just wanted to share that I ordered the navy plus size blazer using your link. And I LOVE it. The quality is excellent. Now, to re- stalk & copy all your navy blazer outfits! I’m so glad I stumbled on to your blog.
I am so glad you liked it Mary. Some of the items I have purchased so I know the quality, but some I just have to look at the reviews. That makes me feel a little better about recommending it.
Lucy Loo yay!!!! Whenever I read your posts from now on I will remember my precious Shitszu Lucy may she RIP! There are so many variations on Lucy that I think we called her about 10 different names and she answered to all of them as long as there was a Lu somewhere. I am also a huge fan of Lucy and Ricky Ricardo so you can imagine what it was like to have our own little version at home…. A little mischief, lots of laughs and fun. I hope you have as much fun with your Lucy as we did with ours!
Hi. I found you on JoLynne’s link up. I LOVE this outfit-the colors are gorgeous. They make your blue eyes pop! Must say, swooning over the handbag!! Love your style! xx-Shan http://www.gaminestripes.com
You look stunning, but OMYGOODNESS Lucy Loo is the CUTEST THING — next to my Savannah-dog, of course. You must be so in love.
Loved the story about Colin. I think we all have special people in our lives who may have passed but we’ll never forget. Also… Glad you kept the doggie!!!!
Tania, I love your blog! You sense of humor is a great way to start my day! You must have clothing all over your house or a huge master closet! My daughter’s little dog ran on three legs too, until she started her on Cosequin. Works like a charm! I guess I am dispensing veterinary advice without a license-oops! Happy Friday!
Great outfit! I don’t believe I’ve ever worn red pants but I just might give them a try and step out of my comfort zone.
Lucky Lucy to have been found by you!
We went camping and I had a pet opossum. Lol
Reading about Colin helps me to realize the impact we have on children and creating memories for them in a fun way. I’m sure he never, ever thought it would be written about by you on your blog. :).
You look pretty!! I love your style.
Love the whole outfit. I missed not having Winter, I took out my Spring sweaters. Lucy does look like some sort of terrier, maybe silky terrier mix. Hope things go well at the vet!
I was wondering about that dog! Have a blessed weekend.
Tania.. I have a confession( because I’m a hopeless Catholic ) when I started following your blog I wasn’t quite sure that it was right for me. I was so wrong… I love how you turn a story, involve your friends and show “real” life in fashion for us women of 50’s and beyond. Thanks and please keep it up. I have a Lucy too, his name is Earl.. ( my groom of 33 years named him)
Jamie, I am so glad you gave me a chance. You may not be far from where I live. I am about 13 miles from the Kentucky line.
I’m in Henderson however we have a “mobile home” at Barclay so maybe we are closer there!!
I love that you like to wear colors. Your new pooch is cute. We just got a rescue inJanuary. He’s not so little. 107lbs. He knows how to open the lazy Susan’s in the kitchen(not a cute trick). While we were in Florida last week my daughter wasn’t watching and he had a snack fest. By the way those premium outlet stores were great. Too many bargains had to ship some home. What fun! Look forward to each new post. Have to go back to work to pay for shopping!
Margie, you are a gal after my own heart? Anybody that has to ship things home, is my kind of shopper?
Lucy Loo is precious! I love reading your stories, they make my day! Have a great weekend.
Oh Lucy!!!! So glad she found you!! Keep us posted! And yes, your outfit is great too!!
I Love Lucy!!!!!!!
Whoops- pulledthe comment trigger to quick…. I had an “uncle” (my aunts boyfriend of 20+ years….that’s a whole otherstory) who was one of the town judges (and had his own family owned car shop and junkyard) who would bring us things that fell off trucks too…. one time he brought enough ice cream to fill the big chest freezer up to the top! gotta love it
Haha, I love those kind of uncles. We had enough candy bars to put in the freezer too. Lol!
The newest member of your family is a cutie! I love your story and I love the red pants as well as the whole outfit. I will say again I really appreciate the way your outfits are affordable and you take time to find matches in all sizes. I really enjoy your blog. It starts my every work morning.
Love your outfit! I’m trying to wear brighter colors! My daughter tells me I need to. Lol I have a dog that I took in after someone dumped her and her name is Lucy Lu. She s a great dog!
What a special man Colin was! Love your outfit, I love anything with red involved 🙂 Lucky Loo is adorable, she’s a lucky girl to have found you!!
Lucy Loo is adorable! Thanks for the great story and I am loving your outfit. I have never worn red pants but you have caused me to want to leave my comfort zone! Have an awesome weekend with your family and pets!
Love your precious fur baby and the outfit. I grew up camping with my family in Ga. I can remember many good tales about it too. Thanks for sharing yours. Love the outfit. Have been looking for the right blue jacket. No success yet.
I’m from southern Indiana and it’s surprisingly Southern in attitude. My parents took us camping and we had a pet skunk! Now I know why your blog resonates with me!
What an absolute doll. Glad you helped her out. So you chose Lucy Loo for her name – cute. Outfit is really nice. You do seem to like red; Maybe it’s your happy ?color. Thanks for the links. Have a happy day.
