Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a monochromatic outfit that is perfect for summer

It sure looks like I am on top of the world in this photo. The truth is, I am only a few feet off of the ground, but that is an example of how things aren’t always as they appear. The same can be said of how a person looks in a photo. Depending upon the angle of the camera or the person’s position, you can look heavier or thinner than you actually are. If only

we could figure out a way to have that filter follow us around all day long. Lol! I would need a “hazy” lens to blur any of my imperfections, and a “skinny” lens would be nice for the extra 20 pounds that I seem to lose and find constantly. And, if I were really lucky, then I would have the “wisdom” lens that shown brightly on me so that I was wise and knowledgeable.

Alas, there is no real-life lens except for what you wear when you look at yourself in the mirror. Be kind to yourself, you are beautiful exactly the way you are, and you don’t need a FAKE lens turning you into something that you aren’t. Smile because in the words of the wise woman, Mary Poppins, you are “practically perfect in every way!”

Don’t ask me what brought on that message; I never know what will come out of my fingers when I sit down to type. Lol! Most of you know that I am a color-loving kind of girl. But I also love a good neutral monochromatic outfit, and today’s look gets a big thumbs up from me. I actually love everything about this look, even though the colors are very beige. Haha!

I am not sure that I’ve ever worn a mesh sweater on the blog until yesterday, and here I am, styling another one today. I told you yesterday that the mesh sweater style was trending! This mesh long sleeve sweater is in the color clay, and I actually like this neutral shade. I think I like this sweater even better than the blue and white striped sweater that I wore yesterday.

The wide trim on the v-neck, the cuffs, and the hem is a detail that I like a lot. The sweater is a nice length that you can wear with leggings since it will cover your bottom.

Here is a photo from the back to give you an idea of how long the sweater will be. I am wearing a size large in the sweater, and I love the loose fit of the sweater. I am wearing a neutral tank that I bought from Chicos last year. The exact one that I am wearing is not available, but here are three versions that would work for this top. If I want the tank to be a slim fit for wearing under a shirt, I buy a size 1. But, if I want to wear the tank by itself, I order a size 2 to show any of my lumps.

I just keep wearing these neutral espadrilles wedges with the chevron stripes! I love how these sandals will go with almost anything, and I think they look great with this outfit. These shoes do run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 9.

My mother is a hoot! I think this little wicker satchel is too cute, but she thinks it looks like a fishing bag. Lol! Now that she has said that, I can’t help but think of that every time I see the satchel. Haha! Who agrees that this is a cute bag for summer, or who thinks I need to grab my fishing pole and head to the river?

I am not sure what color these straight-leg pants are; the name is Merzouga. I think they are a pale banana color, just slightly yellowish, but a great neutral. I’ve worn these jeans several times since I bought them, and the color is just as much the reason as the fit.

I am a huge fan of this style of jeans, but it hasn’t grown on Joe yet. He comments about the fit every time that I wear them. I am hoping that they grow on him because they sure are comfortable!!! I am wearing my usual size 10 in the jeans, and I love the slightly loose fit.

I did add a few jewelry items, and I bet that doesn’t surprise you at all. The earrings are Rylan hoops, the long multi-strand necklace is the Davis, but I am only wearing two of the three strands. My bracelets are the Fallyn cuff bracelet and the Rebecca stretch bracelet in white howlite. I think that jewelry finishes an outfit and is what makes it look put together.

Tania, you look so good in the neutrals. I wish I could wear them. My mom loved wearing neutrals in the summer and would always add white. It looks so classy. Your hair just adds to your great style.

I love the outfit and the purse. I think the relaxed fit of the pants actually look better than the skinnies and I love the comfort. Joe will jump on the bandwagon, just give him a little time. Someone commented that your hair looks better longer, I actually think you could go shorter especially in the back and through the top. I like the shorter version. So easy in the summer too!

Though I’m trying to add more colour to my wardrobe, I’m a neutrals girl at heart and would wear this outfit in a heartbeat! I had a similar sweater in white, but got rid of it because pure white simply doesn’t compliment my complexion. Unfortunately Talbots doesn’t have a Canadian website and the import duty and fees are prohibitive. I’ll keep my eye open for something similar this side of the border though.

I think your satchel is an adorable summer purse regardless of what your Mom has to say about it!

I ordered those jeans last week, have not received them yet, and I’m glad you described the color. I Googled it and it was described as:
Reddish – With the light of dawn, the sand of the desert takes a spectacular reddish color and as the sun rises, the color gets more yellowish.
I absolutely love your outfit from head to toe, and as I already have the shoes and a similar sweater, now with my Merzouga pants I can duplicate it…just need a fishing tackle and my outfit will be complete.

I love the cute bag! It is very vintage and the kelly green leather accent might be why it reminds your Mom of a fishing bag. Either way it is beautiful! And it looks perfect with your outfit!

  13. Such a cute outfit and it looks amazing on you. I agree that the way we dress, stand, sit or whatever causes us to say OMG look at me. Girl I do it to myself all the time. God made us just the way we are and we should all know this. Thank you for your blogs and stories.

I really like your neutral look today. Very cool and classy. I like that sweater. Do you find that it gets “pulls” on it from jewelry?

It hasn’t pulled yet, but the jewelry that I had on didn’t have anything that would catch on it.

I absolutely love that sort of golden beige mixed with a softer beige on top. Eons ago I had a skirt and sweater outfit of the same tones and, even though warm beiges are not my best colors, I got compliments every time I wore it. You look fabulous in those colors. Patricia Nash makes beautiful bags. To me, this one is a slightly retro classic, but I have seen some cheaper woven bags the past year or two that look exactly like antique fishing baskets, so I guess your mother is not too far off base!
