Winter Athleisure You’ll Want to Live In: Athleta Sale Picks You Can’t Miss
How to Stay Active in the Cold Without Sacrificing Comfort
When the temperature drops, it’s easy to want to hibernate—I know I’m tempted to stay wrapped up in a blanket with a hot cup of coffee! But staying active (and stylish) in the winter can actually make these chilly months a little more enjoyable. That’s why I was so excited to see some fabulous finds on the Athleta Winter Warm-Up sale. These pieces are cozy, versatile, and perfect for layering—whether you’re heading out for a brisk walk, running errands, or just curling up at home.
Why Staying Active Matters (Especially for Women Over 50)
Staying active is about so much more than just burning calories. For women over 50, it’s such a boost for overall well-being. Regular movement helps improve flexibility and balance, which are key as we age. It boosts your mood (hello, endorphins!), keeps your heart healthy, and even helps maintain bone density. Plus, it’s a great way to stay social—a brisk walk with a friend can do wonders for your body and spirit. And let’s be honest, nothing beats that post-workout glow and sense of accomplishment.
Winter Athleisure That Works for Every Day
Let’s be real—finding clothes that look good and feel good can be a challenge, especially when it’s freezing outside. But Athleta’s pieces are the perfect solution. They’re comfortable enough for lounging but polished enough to make you feel put together. These aren’t just workout clothes—they’re life clothes, and I’m here for it!
I’ll admit it—it’s hard to stay motivated to move when it’s so cold that you can see your breath! But I’ve found that having the right gear makes all the difference. Here are a few tips that help me stay active during the winter:
- Dress in layers: Start with something lightweight and breathable, like a long-sleeve top, and add a warm jacket or vest.
- Invest in cozy fabrics: Athleta’s pieces are so soft and warm, it’s like wearing a hug. Their joggers and zip-ups are perfect for layering.
- Focus on indoor movement: When it’s too cold to go outside, I’ll hop on the treadmill or do a quick yoga session. These outfits transition seamlessly from outdoor to indoor activities.
Cozy Yet Polished for the Outdoors
This first look is my go-to for when I need to get outside but still want to feel warm and comfortable. The half-zip pullover and joggers combo is like a wearable blanket, but it doesn’t look sloppy—it’s relaxed but polished. Add the quilted lightweight puffer for an extra layer of warmth, and you’re good to go for a walk or running errands.
The Aire Puffer Parka in Feather is a lightweight yet warm jacket that’s perfect for chilly days. I found the large too big on me, even over the sweatshirt, so I’d recommend sizing down if you’re in between sizes. It’s a versatile piece that layers well, making it ideal for outdoor errands or brisk walks in winter weather.
This color is selling out quickly, and the sizes are very limited. However, grab the black version because it is just a versatile and lightweight, and it will be the next to go.
I’m wearing the Forever Fleece 1/4 Zip Sweatshirt in Pyrite paired with the Forever Fleece High Rise Jogger in the same color. Both pieces are incredibly cozy and feel like wearing a warm hug. However, they do run oversized. The large was too big for me, and I’d recommend sizing down to a medium for a better fit. Together, these pieces create a relaxed, polished look that’s perfect for lounging or casual outings.
From Gym to Lounging in Style
Let’s talk about this matching set! The zip-up hoodie and joggers are soft, stretchy, and oh-so-comfy. It’s the kind of outfit you can wear to the gym, then straight to the couch without skipping a beat. I love pairing it with a simple tank underneath for layering, especially if I’m heading to an indoor workout. Plus, it’s cute enough to wear out if you need to run a quick errand.
This set is definitely one of my favorites from Athleta’s sale—and if you love matching sets as much as I do, you’ll want to check out their other options while they’re discounted.
The Softluxe Crop Hoodie in Pyrite Feather Heather is a soft, cozy piece with functional zip pockets that I absolutely love. However, it fits on the smaller side and feels tight, so I’d suggest sizing up if you prefer a looser fit.
The matching Softluxe High Rise Jogger is in the same color and size. They aren’t oversized like the sweatpants, but I still needed to size them down to a medium. These joggers are stretchy, comfortable, and great for everything from gym sessions to lounging at home. I love how this set transitions seamlessly from activewear to relaxed downtime, making it a winter wardrobe staple.

Soft and warm Athleta pieces are like a warm hug on these cold days!
Thanks Tania – just ordered a cute sweatshirt from Athleta – wouldn’t have seen it without your daily dose of sharing great finds.
I did not notice the Y on the cake until you mentioned it and I had to go back and look at it again. LOL. I really like the crop hoodie and jogger pants but I would prefer it in a darker color. Navy would be great. By the way–you look super slim in that outfit. Have you lost even more weight??
I love this brand and especially when it’s on sale.
Thank you
Barb
Me, too! It is such a great brand, and the sales are always fabulous.
I have those hi rise pants in two colors – they are awesome!
I love their clothing!
Great pieces!
I am a HUGE fan of Athleta. I have been wearing this brand for years. Good fit and quality and their items last.
PS – Happy BDays to the fam.
I agree with yo about Athleta!
Very nice sets!
Cute outfits. I wear a lot of joggers and flare athletic pants in winter. I also wear hoodies. I just received black joggers in petite length from Old Navy and they’re perfect. I’m thinking of ordering another color. Even though I’m in Texas it’s still too cold for me. I can’t wait for higher 60’s the next two days. The cake looked good. It’s not real noticeable. 😊
Love the Athleta options and the puffer coat. Loving that color this year. You are looking great. Trying hard to eat healthier and making movement/exercise a priority mostly indoors this time of year because of the cold and working long hours at my desk. I do pop out with the dogs and enjoy the fresh air and sun in the warmer months.
Baby steps are better than no steps. Keep it up!
Having foot surgery and will have leg cast. 4 weeks then a boot
So this is perfect post for me.
Will be in “leisure wear” far longer than I’m comfortable with.
Thanks stay warm
G
I hope you recover quickly, but you’re right, this post is perfect for you.
I love the cake! At first glance I figured one of your grandchildren decorated for someone. I took a cake decorating class years ago. I cried when I saw my finished product. Your sister did good.
I like leggings and warm, cozy sweatshirts in the winter.
The cake is still pretty and festive. Great scripture today! I plan on checking out the Athleta site while the good sale is taking place. I have a two piece outfit with Sherpa lining from Amazon that Larry bought for my birthday. It is super cozy and very warm for the really cold days. I like it so much, I’ve ordered it in another color.
Cute outfits prefit for just running errands or lounging around the house
I love leisure wear and these are nice. My hands shake also, so did my Dads but my brother and sister’s don’t. It’s very aggravating but grateful it’s not something worse. Have a blessed day. 🙏🏻💕
Love your cake!! 🎂 Belated Happy Birthday! 🥰 Also, love these selections from GAP!! 🙏
My thoughts are you look itty bitty leaning on that piece of equipment. 😉
Lol!
Love Athleta and your choices! Their joggers are my fav!
Athlete has nice pieces and they are great for travel
I really like all of these clothes today.
Tania,
I love those high rise pants. Did you have to size down? By the way, you are looking great! What are you doing to look so fit? I might need to try it!
Jennifer, I didn’t size down. I ordered a large in both of them, but I should have gotten a medium. The sweatpants were expecially big on me.
Cute sets! The CRZ fleece lined leggings are my go to! 🥶
Those all look like they would make you feel like you are getting a warm hug all day!
Great options. Staying warm has been a real challenge since Christmas and evidently next week will be worse.
Great ideas!
