What Jeans Should Women Over 50 Be Wearing for Fall 2025
Have you walked down the jeans aisle lately? It’s like a jungle in there. One rack is full of wide legs, another has barrel legs, then you turn around and there are cropped, baggy, or something called slim-straights staring back at you. By the time you’ve made it halfway through, you’re ready to just leave with nothing.
There are a couple of denim trends this season I’m excited to wear and a couple I’ll be skipping without hesitation. Let’s break it all down so you know exactly what’s worth wearing in 2025.
Wide Leg Jeans Are Still Going Strong

Wide leg jeans have been hanging around for a few years, and I don’t see them going anywhere in 2025. They can be hard to style at first, but I love how they give a long, lean line when I wear them with a little bit of a heel. Just make sure to balance them out with a more fitted top or tuck in your blouse so you don’t get lost in the fabric. If you’re on the petite side, try a cropped version that shows a bit of ankle.

Straight Leg Jeans Are Still a Favorite

Straight legs jeans work for just about everything. They are modern, easy to style, and you can wear them with sneakers, loafers, or ankle boots without having to overthink it. If you want to update your denim in 2025 but you do not know where to start, this is the one I would suggest. Straight legs are classic but still current.

Flare Jeans Are Back Again

Flares are one of those trends I am actually excited about. They remind me a little of my younger days, but this time around, they are more subtle. Instead of giant bell-bottoms, the flare starts below the knee and creates a nice, long leg line. I love how flares balance out wider hips and make your legs look longer, especially with a heel or wedge.

White and Gray Jeans

White jeans used to be thought of as a summer-only piece, but that rule is long gone. White denim is now being worn year-round, and I love how fresh it looks for fall. Pair it with a chunky camel sweater or a plaid blazer and ankle boots, and suddenly white feels like the perfect fall neutral.

Gray jeans are another big trend for 2025, and I think they’re a fabulous alternative to blue. The color is neutral enough to work with everything but different enough to feel new.

Polished Trouser-Inspired Jeans

If you like the idea of jeans but need something a little more elevated, trouser-style denim is for you. They’re made from denim, but they’re cut more like tailored pants. That means higher rises, longer inseams, pleats or darts for shape, and often a wider leg that falls straight down without clinging.

The New Barrel Leg Shape

Now let’s talk about barrel legs. These are one of the newest shapes for 2025, and they are roomy through the hips and thighs with a curve that tapers back at the ankle. I have tried a few pairs, and I will be real with you, I am not a fan. They just do not flatter me at all. On some women, they look fresh and modern, but on me, they make me feel wider and shorter. If you want to try them, go for it.

🙂 Always a fan of jeans.
Lots of great options. I don’t need any new jeans but I’m glad for the tips you provided. 🙂
☺️Are colored jeans in style? I have blue, white and grey, but I also have ecru, black, brown, green, and burgundy. Can I wear those? They’re mostly straight leg.
They aren’t “trending.” but that doesn’t mean they aren’t in style. You can wear them, especially the black and brown pairs.
Tania you look really slim in the kick flare jeans & the sunshine smile t shirt.
🙂 Found it! I love jeans! Lori
:)Found it! Love the flower t shirt. I don’t like the bell bottoms. You look good in all, straight & bell bottoms.
Love all the jeans, but I am not sure if I am a fan of the cropped wide-legged look yet. Still thinking on that one 🙂
🙂 I love all the jeans. Thank you for this update, I bought my most recent pair of jeans off of your suggestions for what is current.
☺ Thanks for a great post on everything jeans! I agree with you on barrel leg jeans, very unflattering! I love the flares and boot cuts the most.
😊 love the jeans. I’ve not tried the barrel style- not too sure about them. They look nice on you!
