WHAT IS VERY PERI AND WHY DO YOU CARE?
If you haven’t already heard, Pantone’s color of the year for 2022 is Very Peri! The reason that you should care about the color of the year is that you will see it popping up everywhere in the stores. In fact, you are probably already starting to see hints of this color already.
This year’s shade was a custom blended color and marks the first time the company has created a brand new color for the occasion. Very Peri or PANTONE 17-3938 is described by Pantone as a “dynamic periwinkle blue hue with a vivifying violet-red undertone.”
For over 20 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced fashion and home decor. Not only is it a visually appealing color, but its significance for the times we’re living in is also huge.
“The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer. Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute
I’m not a color expert, but I can’t tell that this is a brand new shade, it still looks like purple to me. There are lots of shades of purple already, everything from lilac to violet, and lots of colors and shades in-between.
I LOVE all shades of purple, so this is a Color of the Year that I can embrace. Last year’s choice of Illuminating (a bright yellow) was not a color that I jumped on board to wear, although I tried. If you don’t care for wearing purple, then you might add accessories to your outfit instead. I’ll link to some easy items below that will keep you looking modern and trendy without making you wear a color that makes you uncomfortable.
I found several items that are “very peri-ish” but I’m sure more will be hitting the stores soon. OPI has even come out with a Very Peri looking nail polish called All is Berry and Bright.
You might want to even incorporate Very Peri into your makeup routine. I love wearing purple eyeshadow or using purple eyeliner, so this is a great way to add the color to your everyday look.
I’m wearing the same pair of mid-rise tapered jeans with all of the looks. I love the way these jeans fit, they are slightly loose but not baggy. Plus, they have a slim-fit leg that tapers toward the ankle. These are like a relaxed skinny jean, and I like the mixture of the two. I wasn’t sure what size I would wear, so I ordered my usual size 10 and a size 8 also. I ended up liking the size 8 the best, but there wasn’t much difference between the two.
This look is fairly close to Very Peri, it is definitely in the blue/purple shade and you can see hints of violet in the material. This sweater is a great mid-weight sweater, not too heavy and not too light. In my weather, I could wear this sweater without a shirt underneath, but you might need the extra shirt if you live in a colder climate.
The ribbed crewneck sweater doesn’t run tight as most ribbed items do. I’m wearing a medium and you can see that it is plenty roomy for me.
I love wearing long, chunky necklaces with sweaters. The long necklace helps to bring your eye downward creating a longer-looking neck. I use this trick when I’m wearing a crewneck instead of a v-neck. This leopard necklace makes a statement with its crystal spots that catch your eye as you move,
I’m wearing a relaxed chambray button-up shirt with both sweaters. A chambray shirt is an essential item that should be in your closet. You can wear this style shirt with dresses, skirts, pants, jeans, or leggings. It is a classic item and is very versatile. This shirt is somewhat relaxed, so I sized it down to a medium and it fits great.
This v-neck merino-blend sweater is a gorgeous color. I love this paler shade of purple, but I will warn you that it is a thin and lightweight shirt. If you look closely, you can see a button of my shirt shows through the sweater. If you live in a warmer climate then you might like this sweater best.
This v-neck sweater is about the same length as the ribbed sweater and hits me around my hips. I’m wearing a medium in this sweater and it fits me great, even with the chambray shirt under it.
I wore my Easton geometric hoops with the crewneck sweater, and I wore a pair of veined Lapis earrings with the v-neck sweater. I’ve always been partial to Lapis jewelry because I love the gold flecks in the dark blue stone.
This soft fuzzy ombre cardigan is so cute. I can see wearing this in so many ways. It would look great with white, baby blue, or navy just to name a few possibilities. This cardigan would be a great way to wear the Very Peri trend and have a different color next to your face.
Look how soft and plush this cardigan is! You can see the different color variations of the cardigan better in this up-close photo.
Here is the back view so that you can see the length. I am 5’6″ tall, and this is where it hits me. The Tory Burch flats that I’m wearing are on sale at Nordstrom, but the sizes are very limited. You can find more sizes on the Tory Burch website, but they aren’t on sale.

Have you tried Old Navy? I picked up a pair of tall ankle jeans and the inseam is 31″ I’m 5’11”
I noticed you have lost weight. What is your secret?
Such a pretty peri shaker sweater! So pretty I ordered one. The whole post was inspiring.
You look so beautiful. I like your take on this peri color because I like purple, You are my jeans goddess, and I love these jeans on you. Unfortunately, your cutest-to-me jeans of late are all 27″ long which is terrible length on me as I am 5′ 10″. If they were just 28″ instead, all would be do-able, although 28″ is cropped on me and still shorter than I would prefer. I have tried the 27″ jeans (what is up with the cropped look? NOT for tall gals!) and they only work with super high shaft booties like combats which I dont want to wear all the time. They just look bad. It is very sad because your favorite Talbots jeans are also 27″. Alas, tall women have been forgotten in the new tapered jeans world. If you find any that are longer, I hope you will share e with us. I buy all your other jeans and am so grateful to you for the information and making it fast and simple for us.
I’ve always loved purple and it is my favorite color. I ordered the crew neck sweater.
I just ordered the crew neck! I love it, looks great on you!!
What a beautiful color sweater! Love it with your topper too.
You look so nice in all of these looks and the purple. This color is one that I can and will enjoy wearing this spring & summer.
Love the new Periwinkle color. The long cardigan is gorgeous on you.
I love purple. Very peri is especially gorgeous on you and blondes!!!
Love Very Peri! Thanks for the link to the nail polish. I was thinking it was close to “such a Budapest” which I already have, but I think it’s closer to “nice set of pipes” which I also have, so I’ll just wear that one and save $10.
Thanks for the idea of the chambray shirt under a sweater, I always forget about that option! Here I am wearing a boring white t-shirt under my purple sweater and we could have been twins! Oh well, maybe next time.
Again you look so much better in the sweaters than the models. I like the v-neck one, but can’t wear anything so thin with my shape. It would show every lump and bump. The other one I like the color, but also think with my shape it would just make me look lumpy. The color I love.
Love the color
I love this color. Just ordered the crew neck. I hope it looks as good on me as it does on you.
I love this color. Especially on you. Your diet has paid off. You look great.
Love this color!!
I just ordered the first sweater, the crew neck-what a great deal and I LOVE that color! I never would have thought to add the denim shirt underneath, thanks for sharing!

I love this color! I just grabbed the sweater – a great deal!
Which sweater did you grab?
I just got the plaited crew neck in the mail. I love it. It is a good quality, soft sweater and the price is great. Blue Dahlia was the name of the color. I ordered from your post the other day and received in right away, 💜color me happy.
I remembered that you mentioned you ordered it. I thought it was a great sweater also!
Love the outfit and color of the year!!!
I’m also a huge fan of this color!
Love the Peri and blue Jean combo’s! Very flattering, and you look great in them! It’s a color I can do and love nail polish in this color tone also!
