Western Style Is Trending in 2025. Here’s How to Wear It Over 50
Western style is trending in 2025, and it’s never been more fun to reinvent your wardrobe! This year, the wild west isn’t just for runways and superstars like Beyoncé. Whether you’re 25 or 75, you can embrace the trend with confidence, personality, and just the right amount of flair. Here’s how I wear western style at 50+, and why you’ll love it too.
Why Western Style Is Everywhere This Year
From rhinestone cowboy hats at concerts to boots and fringe on designer runways, western fashion is everywhere right now. What I love most? It’s a trend any woman can wear, no matter your age. Forget the idea that cowgirl looks are only for young folks or literal cowgirls; this year, western style is about blending timeless comfort with playful, on-trend touches.
How to Wear Western-Inspired Denim Over 50
One of the easiest ways to dip into the Western trend is with denim. My sleeveless denim dress is the perfect mix of structure and soft, wearable texture. It’s comfortable for those early fall days and has a modern silhouette that feels both chic and age-appropriate, and did I mention that it has pockets?!?
What makes this look work:
- The longer hemline gives coverage while the sleeveless cut keeps things fresh.
- Subtle distressing and raw edges nod to the trend without being “costume.”
- Neutral suede boots (with a low, walkable heel) keep things versatile and comfortable.
- My crossbody bag adds a touch of cowhide print, a subtle western detail that’s still chic.
3 Easy Ways to Try the Western Trend in 2025 (No Costume Required)
- Start With One Statement Piece:
Try a denim dress (like mine), a classic chambray shirt, or a midi skirt with western stitching. - Add a Western-Style Accessory:
A cowhide or leather bag, chunky belt, or pair of boots can transform your look without going overboard. - Mix Textures for Interest:
Suede with denim, silver jewelry, or a touch of animal print keeps things polished and modern.
Make the Trend Your Own
The best part about the western trend in 2025 is putting your own twist on it! You don’t need a cowboy hat (unless you want one). Adding a Denim Jacket is the easiest way to join in the trend. Focus on comfort, confidence, and a few playful details that feel authentic to you. Here are a few items with a Western vibe that I think you’ll like.
I’ve talked several times about how western inspired clothing is making waves this season. Cowboy and western boots are a fun way to add this trend to your own closet.
CIDER Women’s Long Jean Denim Tiered Button Down High Waisted Maxi Skirts
This denim Maxi Skirt screams modern cowgirl. It’s long and tiered but still feels current thanks to the high waist and button-down front. Pair it with boots and a tucked-in blouse, and you’re ready for a winery, a concert, or even just Saturday lunch.
- Comfortable high-waisted fit
- A fresh alternative to jeans
- Works great with boots or sneakers
Forgotten Grace Embroidered Top
You don’t have to dress like Annie Oakley to get in on the western trend! A little embroidery goes a long way, and this blouse does it perfectly. It has a flowy fit that’s easy to wear and feels just a touch western without being over the top. Throw it on with jeans or a skirt, and it looks effortless.
- Lightweight fabric for warmer days
- Pretty embroidery detail adds a western vibe
- Works tucked in or loose
BMJL Denim Shirt
Every western-inspired wardrobe needs a Denim Shirt, but this one adds a soft, feminine twist with puff sleeves. It’s casual enough for errands but can also be dressed up with trousers or a skirt. Leave it open over a tee for a relaxed ranch vibe.
- Puff sleeves make it more polished
- A classic piece you’ll wear all year
- Button it up or layer it over another top
Western Cowboy Graphic T-Shirt
I LOVE a good graphic tee, and this one has just the right mix of vintage and western. Wear it with your denim maxi skirt or under a blazer for a modern twist on cowboy-core. It’s soft and easy, so it works for casual days.
- Retro-inspired graphic
- Lightweight and soft
- Layers easily with jackets
Quince Leather Tall Western Boots
If you want one piece to make your outfit look instantly western, it’s these boots. They’re real leather and have that classic western shape. Plus, they’re made for comfort, not just looks. These would look great with jeans, skirts, or dresses.
- High-quality leather
- Timeless western silhouette
- Comfortable for all-day wear
Be sure to check out my Saturday post on Stylish Quince Outfits That Work for Summer and Fall 2025. Quince is known for offering high-quality, timeless pieces at surprisingly affordable prices.
Dolce Vita Shania Western Boot
If you want something shorter, these ankle-height Western Boots are a fun option. They’re chic, easy to pull on, and pair with everything. Think of them as a subtle nod to the trend without going full cowgirl.
- Comfortable ankle height
- Stylish western stitching
- Perfect with skirts or jeans
Vince Camuto Western Buckle Belt
A good belt is such an easy way to add some western detail. This one has a classic buckle that will cinch in your waist over dresses, shirts, or even blazers. It’s a small piece that makes a big statement.
- Adds shape to any outfit
- Classic western buckle style
- Works with jeans or over dresses
Lucky Brand Fringe Crop Jacket
This Fringe Crop Jacket makes me want to book a trip to Nashville immediately. It’s cropped, so it’s flattering, and that little swish of fringe makes every outfit a bit more fun. Wear it over a simple tee and jeans for an instant wow factor.
- Fun fringe detail without being overwhelming
- Cropped fit is great for layering
- Adds personality to simple outfits
Rebecca Minkoff Fringe Bucket Bag
If you want to dip your toe into the Western aesthetic without changing your wardrobe, this Fringe Bucket Bag is a perfect place to start. Fringe on a bag feels playful but polished. Carry it with everyday outfits for a subtle nod to the trend.
- Fringe detail on a classic bucket bag
- Perfect for everyday use
- Adds a western touch to any outfit
Western style doesn’t mean you need to dress like you’re heading to a rodeo. A belt here, a pair of boots there, maybe a graphic tee, that’s all it takes. It’s such a fun trend for 2025, and the best part is that it blends right into a classic wardrobe.

Congratulations on your daughter’s engagement. This was such an enjoyable post. I have a friend who is a true California cowgirl, still competing in roping at 74 years. She always dresses western and assures me cowboy boots are the most comfortable shoes to wear. I looked at the affordable boots you posted last year and made up a want list. I have two denim dresses that need boots and a great new western belt! I can’t wait for fall.
🙂 No! No! No! No cowgirl look for me! 😁 Congrats! Fun days ahead!

🥂🫧🥂
😀Congratulations to your beautiful daughter💍
Love the suede boots
As a displaced Texan, now in Virginia, I’ve always loved western wear, but am hesitant to wear it because I’m never sure if I’m being trendy or Texan! Inspired by this post, I think I’ll drag my fringed, red suede jacket from the attic this fall. I think wearing one piece at a time is the key, rather than loading it down with cowboy boots and denim too. Of course, after 28 years, most of my western wear has disappeared from my closet….oh, does that mean SHOPPING? Well, if I must…..
🙂 I do have a denim jacket and at least 2 chambray shirts so I may be on trend for once. LOL
Tania, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I’m so excited for you beautiful daughter!!! Western style has never not been in style where I live…Happy Monday❤❤❤ PS The wedding planning is going to be so much fun❤
😃 Congratulations to your daughter🥂 Let the wedding excitement begin. It’ll be fun to see your hunt for the perfect mother-of-the-bride dress.

Congratulations to your daughter and future son-in-law! Such happy news for your family! I’ve been seeing that western wear is making a comeback. I had a lot of the items pictured back in the 80’s. May add some western wear but probably not a lot as I think it’s more a thing that may only last a year or so. But it’s fun!
Thank you for sharing your news about your beautiful daughter! Love your blog! Been a follower for about 6 years!
