WHAT TO WEAR WHILE LOSING WEIGHT
I have had several of you ask about what to wear while you are losing weight. First off, I want to say CONGRATULATIONS!!! Second, I understand where you are coming from. You don’t really want to spend a lot of money on clothing, if you are planning on losing more weight. But, you are starting to look sloppy, with your clothing being to big and baggy. Your new body feels and looks different, and you can’t dress it the same way you did when you were heavier.
I would recommend doing a wardrobe similar to a capsule wardrobe. I thought about what I would want in my own wardrobe if I was in a transition phase. You would probably want to stay with the basics in order to get the most bang for your buck. The most basic colors for pants to me are black, white, navy, and khaki. I would want to buy a pair of jeans, and a pair of pants in each of these colors.
Jeans: Jag (Misses, Petite) | Plus
Black Pants: Pixie | Karen Kane | Petite | Plus
White Pants: Talbots (misses, petite, plus) | Ankle
Navy Pants: Chino’s | Pixie Long | Pixie Ankle | Plus
Khaki Pants: Calvin Klein | Tahari | Talbots (misses, petite, plus)
For tops, I would again stick with the basics. I would buy a top in black, white, navy, yellow, and red. If you hate red, go with pink instead. If yellow is not your best color, then choose orange, green, purple, etc.
Black Top: Tunic | Tank | Lace Trimmed
White Top: Bell Sleeve | Capped Sleeve | Tunic
Navy Top: Ruffle | High Low | V Neck
Then I would add one skirt and two printed cardigan. You should already have accessories like scarves and jewelry to help take the outfits from the boring side.
Printed Cardigan: Abstract | Floral | Watercolors
With just these few items you can make a wardrobe that will be mix and match easily. All these colors go with the other. I picked yellow and red tops because they work well with all the basic colors. By choosing two printed cardigans, you can add interest to a plain outfit.I have on a navy top that I think I purchased at TJ Maxx. I like the cut away designs in the top for added interest. I wore a white camisole under the top so you could see the details.
I carried my Coach purse that I traded my BFF Bertha for years ago. I thought the lime green in the leaves matched my capris.
These lime green capris are probably over 5 years old. I used to wear them a lot, but in the last few years I don’t think I have worn them. When I pulled them out of the closet, I wasn’t sure they would even fit.
And I ended my outfit with my Nina shoes from the island weekend collection that I last wore here. I’m sorry there are no links to my outfit. I have been getting ready to help with a yard sale in the morning for the woman’s club. I have been gathering up items all over the house to take to sell. And I have to be up, ready, and down there by 7:00 in the morning. So I am off to bed.
I hope this post has helped some of you get a better idea of how to dress your “new” body. Make sure your new items “fit” and don’t buy too big. If an item sits closer to your body, it will look better on you.

How tall are you? You look great in caprices and crop styles. I feel like capris cut me off
I am 5’6″ tall and I have fairly long legs.
That’s a great recipe for a transitional wardrobe! Love your blog!
nice outfit 🙂
I just went on a pinning binge. I’ve said it before, I love 99.3% of the outfits you post! I learn so much from your use of color and always come away with new ideas. Keep it up!
That purse is so cute and I love those sandals. Very cute!
Happy Saturday Tania! I haven’t posted in awhile but I read your blog every single day – I look forward to it each morning! You put outfits together so beautifully that I have to keep reminding myself over and over of the commandment, “Thou shalt not covet, thou shalt not covet, thou shalt not covet…” ha! I’ve gone up and down with weight my entire life, so I can’t have a closet packed full of clothes, but I’m learning from you how to accessorize what I do have to make the outfits appear fresh and new. Tania, reread the statement you made concerning your BFF Bertha. It sounded like you traded your best friend for a purse! hahahahahha I got quite a chuckle out of that!!! I know what you meant, but it’s still funny to think about and I needed a laugh! Have a great weekend!
Today I would have traded her for a purse. She and Sandy both pulled a stunt that got them in the dog house.??
You suggest that we “follow you on Pinterest,…” Is there any way you can change the words to instant links? For instance, the word Pinterest would take us directly to your pinterest page.
Thank you!
Yes, I’ll fix that for you.?
Excellent Advice!
I have lost weight with WW, about 35 lbs. I have cleared out any old fat clothes and donated to Salvation Army. In transition to my new weight I found that pants with stretch were a godsend along with tunic tips. I agree with you that if you have a few slacks in basic colors add color to your tops. My rule is that every top/shirt has to go with 3 items that I have. It’s amazing what you can do with scarfs. Look at it is like a travel wardrobe. Have fun with mixing and matching. You’re only going to be in the transition clothes for a short time. Read articles on travel wardrobes. Also don’t stop going to the WW meetings, when you reach Lifetime they are free. I still weight in one a week or at least every two weeks. Congrats on your weight loss.
