Finding Beauty in Everyday Moments

Fields of grain is a good reminder to think on all things beautiful

Have you ever had a moment where something simple took your breath away? My sister and I were driving to my parent’s house one day, passing a quiet pasture. The wind was blowing, and the uncut hay swayed gracefully in the breeze. It was so peaceful and beautiful and a reminder to think on all things beautiful.

The lyrics from America the Beautiful: “Amber waves of grain,” played in my mind as I kept driving. Moments like that make me stop and think: there is so much beauty all around us. Do we ever pause to take it in? We need to train our minds to see the beauty, even in the smallest things, instead of focusing on the negative.

Evil Has Always Existed, But So Has Beauty

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when the news is full of tragedy and bad news. Maybe you’ve noticed it lately, too—it feels like evil is everywhere. The truth is that evil has always existed, even since biblical times. The Bible reminds us in Ecclesiastes 1:9 that “there is nothing new under the sun.”

The world has always had its darkness, but here’s the good news: it’s also filled with beauty. There are moments of joy, peace, and wonder all around us if we take a moment to see them. As we continued our drive, I noticed the sunlight dancing on the road through the trees. We were greeted by beautiful wildflowers on the side of the road, and later that night, a gorgeous sunset put on a show. They were great reminders to think on all things beautiful.

You Have the Mind of Christ

1 Corinthians 2:16 KJV
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

Even with all the evil in the world, we don’t have to dwell on it. Jesus offers us something far better—His mind. Can you imagine that? The same mind that created the stars, the sunsets, and the seasons is offered to you and me.

That mind of Christ is pure, filled with love, and untouched by the troubles of this world. When you feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges, take comfort in this: you can focus on the good, true, and beautiful things in the world because you have the mind of Christ.

Take a moment today to look around and notice something beautiful in your life. Maybe it’s something small, like a smile or a flower. The Lord created the entire world just for us, so thank God for His goodness.

Let’s end with a prayer:

Lord, thank you for offering us your mind. Help me to focus on the beauty around me, even when evil and darkness feel overwhelming. Teach me to rely on your wisdom, not my own. May my thoughts be filled with your goodness and love. Help me to remember that in you, there is no darkness at all. Amen.

I live in a rural area and the road I take home from the grocery store goes past soy bean and corn fields. I noticed the other day the wind rippling through the soy beans and thought how pretty it is. But my favorite every year is seeing the corn fields going up and down the hills. It looks like a perfect green and gold carpet. This is my favorite time of the year just because of those corn fields. It’s amazing all the beauty God has placed around us.

    1. I know what you mean, Barbara! The Lord made all of this for our enjoyment, so we need to slow down and enjoy it when we can.

  8. I do try to remember to be thankful for all the beauty around us and the little things. But it’s nice to have a reminder about it also. Thank you
