THE POWER OF A PENNY
Today is Mother’s Day here in the United States. I found out that most countries celebrate Mother’s Day on the second weekend in May, but there are a few that celebrate on a different date. Just like a lot of holidays, Mother’s Day can be an incredible time of joy and happiness for some people, and for others, it can be a day that they hate to see coming. My mother, who I am blessed to have in my life, told me that she was sick of seeing Mother’s Day blasted everywhere. I am sure that there are others who feel the same way, so we need to be aware of those around us who might be suffering. So, today, I am not going to post about Mother’s Day. Instead, I am going to talk about the power of a penny. Last week on my Sunday post, (here) I talked about silence. I mentioned that I had asked for guidance, like I do every week, but I heard silence from the Lord. Don’t get me wrong, the Lord does not audibly talk to me, but I try to pick up on clues that He might be leaving me as a message. This week I kept getting the same message over and over again, “In God We Trust!”
I have heard the saying, “Find a penny, Pick it up, All day long, you will have good luck,” but I never knew that it was part of a poem, or that there was more to the poem. The rest of the poem goes, “Give it to a faithful friend, Then your luck will NEVER end.” I might not believe that my “luck” will change because I found a penny, but I do know that I will be richer for the experience, if only by one cent.
The real reason that I feel richer is because of the wording on the penny. In God, We Trust is on every penny, and I am always reminded of my many blessings every time that I find one. I never pass up the opportunity to pick up a penny, and I try to say the words to myself, “In God, I Trust” whenever I find one. It makes me feel warm inside to find a penny, and I feel like it is a special message from the Lord to me. I feel like I was meant to find the penny, and that the Lord is sending me a gentle reminder to put my trust in Him.
This week, I found at least four pennies. That is a lot for me to see since I usually will only find one or two pennies a month. I felt like it was the Lord telling me that I was not forgotten and that the previous week’s silence was not a reason to quit putting my trust in the Lord. Or, maybe it was His way of acknowledging that I was trying to hold up my end of the relationship, and the penny was the message.
Every day might not be a good day, but we are still blessed and need to put our trust in the Lord.
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
I hope that today is a good day for you and that you and your families have a great day. For those who just want this day to be over, I am saying a prayer for you. And, in order to spread a little happiness and trust for others, I will be dropping random pennies for others to find.
Have A Blessed Day!
I always pick up pennies and feel lucky when I do!
Happy Mother’s Day,hope you have a wonderful day, loved your post today.
Thank you for the whole poem. I can’t wait to tell my grandchildren. They won’t pick it up if it is face down, they say it is bad luck. This is a new way to look at the found “message”.
I have always picked pennies up but now I have a new appreciation for them!
Thank you for this post. A brand new way to look at finding a penny!
I love your post, interesting spelling of your name – my daughter Tania (Tatiana) shares your beautiful name!
Thank you for the penny blog, I will never ever pick it up without saying ‘In God I trust’! Happy Mothers’ Day!
Today I will look for pennies I lost yesterday and leave tomorrow for others to find. Thank You Tanya for dropping your penny for me to find.
Happy Mother’s Day.
When I find a penny I look to heaven and say Grandma I love you too! I like to think my Grandma is saying hello when I find one. Just a fun thing for me personally.
Thank you! This is one of my favorite posts ever. I will now pick up every penny and will drop a few too!!
Tania, a special post. Thank you.
