Several of you have asked me how I find something to talk about every day. I don’t have a posting calendar or a topic’s chart that I can refer to when it comes to posting. I sit down at my computer and talk about whatever is in my mind. Today, my thoughts are all about silence.
Silence can be a good thing when you need to concentrate. I know my daughter wanted music playing when she was studying for a big test, but I always wanted silence when I did the same thing. But, that is not the silence that I am talking about; I am talking about God’s silence.
Every week I pray for the Lord to direct me to a topic that someone needs to hear. I try and pay attention to “signs” that might be occurring throughout the week. However, this week I didn’t pick up on anything. Maybe I was distracted by being in Florida with so many other people, but it seems like God was silent.
Last night, every time that I woke up, I prayed for a sign or a message to talk about. Once again, it seemed like God was silent. I started thinking about why He was quiet, and I began to worry and panic. How many of you can relate?
Have you experienced times in your life where you feel like God is silent? Maybe you have even wondered, “is He even listening?” “Does He care that this is happening to me?” What do we do when we feel abandoned?
The first thing that I do is examine “my” behavior. Have I been holding up my end of the relationship or have I been on auto-pilot and going through the motions? Whoops, I am guilty. Why would the Lord want to talk to me if I am off thinking about other things? So, what do we do?
Read His Word
3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
The Lord is talking to us all the time; we only have to open our Bible to find His words. I want everything to come to me in the easiest way possible. Having to search and read in the Bible is harder than just looking for signs of His words.
Spend Time In Prayer
6 I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
The Lord hears your petitions, and the Lord welcomes your prayers. Are you talking to the Lord or are you the one being silent? We should use prayer as a way to grow closer to the Lord. We should tell Him our fears and our worries even though He already knows everything.
Pursue The Lord
Part of a relationship can mean that there are times when we need to be the ones in pursuit of the Lord. Our Lord is a jealous God, and He wants to know that there are no other gods before Him.
14 Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.
If you find that the Lord is silent, maybe that means that “YOU” need to be the one doing the talking. A relationship is not a one-way street, and we need to do our part.
Have A Blessed Day!
