Tops play an important role in our wardrobe. If you don’t believe me, just try going to the store without wearing one. lol. Joe asked me the other day exactly how many shirts I needed. I laughed and said I’d let him know when I figured it out. There are so many different styles and options. How is a gurl supposed to buy just one? Today I’m sharing 15 versatile and stylish tops for women over 50.

1. Basic T-Shirt

Everyone needs a basic T-shirt in their closet. They go with jeans, skirts, dress pants, shorts…basically everything! I have mentioned before that I buy several white shirts every season. I don’t spend a lot of money on them, so I definitely get my money’s worth. I buy the basics – white, black, navy, and grey.

2. The Button Down

A simple white button-down is one of the most versatile shirts you can own. You can wear them with suits or jeans, and they never go out of style. I have several white shirts in my closet and lots of different styles and shapes. White goes with anything, and almost everyone can wear this versatile color.

3. Wrap Top

There are so many great things about wrap tops. Most of them are v-neck which helps make the neck look longer. Wrap tops also define the waist, look great on curvy women, and elongate petites! This top comes in a variety of colors and is under $25 dollars!

4. Peplum Top

Isn’t this pretty?! Peplum tops can hide a lot of flaws. They are great for apple shapes who want to hide a thicker middle, and they do a great job defining the waist. I blogged previously about how they can help petites. Just be sure and get the size correct so that it hits you in the right place.

5. Print Blouse

I LOVE a great print blouse. I like them in leopard print, bright colors, small flowers, big flowers; you name it! This blouse comes in a lot of different versions so if you find that you’re in a solid-color rut, now is the time to add a little print into your closet.

6. Denim Shirt

Oh, the joy of a soft, denim shirt! They look so good with khaki or white pants, and I love to wear mine over a short dress like a cardigan. A denim shirt is a classic look and as long as Ralph Lauren is alive and well, the style will go on!

7. Silk Shirt

Is there anything more elegant looking than silk? I love this shirt! It looks great with a pair of jeans, but it would be beautiful to wear with a suit or a skirt. If green isn’t your color, don’t worry. It comes in many gorgeous shades. It’s actually a polyester/rayon blend, but only you will know that you got it for under $30 dollars!

8. Knit Top

Knit tops can be worn in any season and are ideal for almost every occasion. This would make a great transitional to top as we move from summer to fall. I love the detail on the sleeves and the v-neck that’s so flattering on most women.

9. Off-the-Shoulder Top

I’ve gotten so many compliments on the top! It’s only available now in green, but I’ve included others in the shopping area below. Off-the-shoulder tops point the eye to the shoulders, great for showing off your collarbone and balancing a fuller mid-section!

10. Statement Top

What is a statement top? Any top that shows YOUR personality. There’s no wrong “statement top” as long as it makes the statement that you want. I like colorful, bold print but you may prefer a silk, off-the-shoulder blouse. The point is to leave an impression. 🙂

11. Delicate Detail Top

I’ve said it so many times you are probably tired of hearing it, but details can make or break a top. I love this lace bodice and the capped sleeves. It’s so feminine! This blouse comes in a couple of variations, one with a keyhole, and several colors. It would be great under a cardigan or blazer. It’s just $26 dollars and has several great reviews.

12. Tunic

Tunics are so versatile! You can wear them with jeans, leggings, or dress pants. Plus, they are incredibly comfortable. I remember when my sister came home from a trip to India. She wore so many tunics afterward my mother threatened to hide them! lol. I love the embroidery on these sleeves. This top is available at Bloomingdales and was made in India, so Sister approved! lol

13. Camisole

My how times have changed. Some of you are probably like me and remember when a camisole was worn UNDER your clothes. Ha! No more. Now camisoles are made specifically to wear as outerwear. I have the basic colors to wear under camisoles and blazers when a basic t-shirt is just too casual, but I also love them in pretty prints.

14. Cardigan

Cardigans are a staple in my wardrobe! I wore one here, and here! Although I wear a lot of shorter cardigans, these longer “duster” types are all the rage now. If camel isn’t your color, don’t worry. There are several different versions available. I like to purchase a neutral color that I can wear over and over, and if I love it, then I buy it in other colors.

15. Sweater

A good cable knit sweater is a must-have! I love this color, but there are plenty of others if it’s not your cup of tea. The reviews are great with 4.5 stars, and the price is under $30 dollars. What a fantastic deal!

I love your selection of tops for women over 50! I think they all have great qualities, I’m especially in love with the silk shirts! They are so versatile! You can wear them out long with a belt over leggings, tied over jeans, tucked with a skirt, or as an overshirt with a sundress!
My other fav that you listed was the cardigan, I make crocheted cardigans that are full length that are in utral colors so they can match with just about anything you would want to wear them with! So I’m so glad that they made your list!
