The Best Tops To Wear To Survive The Heat
Are you enjoying this series? If you’ve just stumbled upon this blog, I’m doing my best to make it through these high temperatures. As much as I like summer, I hate being a sweaty mess. I want to look put together as I melt on the sidewalk. Today, I’m sharing some of the best tops to wear to survive the heat. These should be your go-to when you have to venture outside. All are made from lightweight, breathable fabrics and should fit loosely. Let’s get into it!
The navy Linen Blend Button-Up Shirt is so versatile and can be worn open like I am here, buttoned up half or all the way, or tied at the waist. I added a light steel Cotton Ribbed Tank under the shirt for extra warmth, but I can wear the shirt without it this spring and summer when the temperatures are warmer.
The Best Tops To Wear To Survive The Heat – Linen
Warm weather and linen go together like peaches and cream. Linen is comfy and cool and a mainstay when the temperatures rise. Yes, it wrinkles, but that is part of the charm. Besides, which looks best, wrinkles or sweat running down your body? If you chose wrinkles, here are some tops for you.
I LOVE this. It looks casual and chic at the same time. With its loose fit, V-neckline, and stylish high-low hem, it’s perfect for everyday wear or adding a touch of glamour to your vacation look. Plus, it’s wrinkle-resistant and easy to care for – just toss it in the machine and you’re good to go!
Here’s a basic tunic in a great color. Lilac has been HUGE this year, but it’s available in ten colors. It’s super versatile and pairs perfectly with shorts, jeans, leggings, or wide-leg pants for that effortlessly chic look. I think the length is perfect as it covers the booty.
How cute is this? Talk about pretty in pink! With a loose fit and casual V-neck design, it’s perfect for those laid-back days when you still want to look put-together. If pink isn’t your favorite, it comes in a variety of colors and patterns, so you can find the perfect match for your style.
You know I’m a fan of v-neck shirts because they’re flattering on so many people. I love that this is SORT of a V-neck, but it also has buttons for another style element. The two pockets are also a nice touch. It’s shown in a pretty neutral tan, but it’s available in a total of nine colors.

I love finding cute tops with unique details, like this Lace Crochet Short Sleeve Blouse. I’m wearing a large, and this top fits me fine. It is a little loose but nothing too crazy. A medium would probably fit better, so I think the top runs true to size.
I love the feel of the material—it feels like it will be easy to iron or steam. I also love the feminine look of the top. It is chic and lightweight, and the material is thin but not see-through.
This puff-sleeve top is so unique. It might look like the dots are printed, but they are actually little pom-poms. The medium fits me great, but there isn’t much stretch to the fabric. If you are between sizes, I would size up.
This black and white sweater vest looks great worn as a top. You don’t have to layer a vest with another shirt; you can wear it alone for a different look. I love the casual yet classic look of the vest. I’ve been wearing it with white shorts and jeans, and it looks amazing!
I love the casual style of this vest, and the oversized buttons are functional and decorative, too. I’m wearing a medium, and the vest fits perfectly. I saw someone comment that it ran huge, but I don’t find that it does. If you are between sizes, then size down.
This is very casual, but it’s got some lovely details. First of all, I love the beautiful “Chinois Green”. It also comes in an almond/peach color, as well as a print, but I love this soft green. It’s lightweight, flowy silhouette, scoop neck, and cap sleeves make it perfect for staying cool and stylish. It’d be easy to pair with your favorite jeans or shorts. Plus, it’s machine washable for hassle-free care!
You really need to zoom in or click on the link to see the details of this shirt. I love the raw edges and ruffles, not to mention this gorgeous color! This top has a swingy, oversized fit that feels both relaxed and chic. The no-collar collar, split neck, and short sleeves make it perfect for warm weather. Made from 100% cotton, it’s lightweight and breathable, just as a top for hot weather should be.
Caslon is one of the brands I always stop and check out when I’m shopping at Nordstrom. They always have something cute. Plaid is something we see a lot of during the colder months, but it works during the summer, too. This shirt is super lightweight and comfy, thanks to its linen and rayon blend. The curved hem means you can wear it tucked in or out. How cute would this look with a pair of white pants?!

If you’re looking for something to wear in the heat, it doesn’t get much better than white and linen! This is very relaxed and flowing. The deep V gives it a nice touch of elegance. Imagine a pretty pendant necklace with this! The sleeves are long enough to cover the upper arms but they aren’t restricting at all. This is the type of shirt you could wear with jeans, shorts, or even a skirt. Layer it with a thin cotton tank if you’re conference that it’s too see-through.
Simple elegance! This linen blend t-shirt could be paired with anything in your wardrobe. The relaxed, slouchy fit and cool cap sleeves make it super comfy and easy to wear. This would be a great transitional top. You could wear it now in the heat, then top it with a great sweater or jacket as fall approaches. Plus, it’s machine washable for easy care!
The name of this brand is BeachLunchLounge. Hey, those are three of my favorite things, lol! This top is giving me boho summer vibes. It’s a great length, and I love the vibrant color. If you’re not a fan, check at the link because there are several variations. It’s 100% cotton, so you know it’s comfy. I buy quite a bit from Nordstrom and I don’t think they get enough credit for how easy they make returns.

You’ll certainly go a long way toward beating the heat in this shirt! This is a great staple for when you need to be in the sun but don’t want to wear a T-shirt. My sister is a classic apple-shape, and she hates T-shirts with a passion. A v-neck shirt is always a better choice for her. Again, this would be cute to wear even when the temperatures dip to a tolerable level. Throw it over a tank top, and you’d be good to go.
This is for those of you who prefer a crew neck top or need something that looks a bit more formal. The deep, rich color elevates this 100% cotton top to a more elegant place. It’s a very inexpensive shirt, but you wouldn’t know that by looking at it. There are many color options if green isn’t your vibe. It is cotton, so you might want to size up a bit to allow for shrinkage.
I know that many of you don’t love sleeveless, but sometimes you gotta do what the weather demands! This is lovely in its simplicity. Of course, it’s 100% cotton, so we can check off the “appropriate for high temps” box, but it’s also a great staple. The pink is perfect for summer, but like almost everything else at Amazon, it’s available in a ton of other colors. You can’t tell by this photo, but it’s fairly long, so it covers the booty – always a plus.

I bought those last year at Lowes.
Survive the heat is right. Last week, on the SC coast, we had a heat advisory or Excessive heat warning every day. It has finally cooled down for a few days. Great tops!

I would like you to cover the topic of closet organization, especially in a large walk in closet.
Love all the linen ones for sure. Nice because they can be worn into fall with the longer sleeves! Love the first two the most!
Staying cool has not been easy this summer. sleeveless tops and linen pants or dresses work for me .
Oh these are some great tops! Its still hot here until end of October so I will be getting a couple. My arms arent as toned as yours so thank you for showing tops with longer sleeves.
Vert cute tops. I just put the v-neck pink top in my cart to order. I would like a week long series on what to wear to transition from summer to the in-between weather as fall approaches. That’s always a hard time for me when the weather starts to change. Thanks Tania
It is a hard time; you never know what to wear.
Great choices to keep cool!
I have enjoyed this series and anything that you post. You are my favorite influencer to follow!
We’re having some rain this week. Unusual for Texas but we’ll take it because temperatures have fallen. My go to tops are linen gauze and cotton in summer.
Thanks yes I live in a lot of linen in the summer.
What great memories of summertime. Yes, I’m enjoying this series and would like to see more like it.
Thank you so much for these lovely ideas for cool shirts to wear in the heat. I love them all. I love cotton and linen shirts in the summer in the Houston area! It gets really hot here!
Texas gets really hot in the summer.

I love the pic of your dad. Does he still ski?
No, he doesn’t ski anymore. He broke his leg and ankle in a car accident when I was young, and it now gives him a lot of trouble.
