My weatherman said yesterday’s temperature was in the high 90s. Personally, I think they were underreporting by about 40 degrees. I went outside to walk the dog, and I thought I was going to melt into the yard. I’ve got a lot to do, so staying inside isn’t an option. If you’re planning on walking outside this summer, you may want to update your wardrobe. Today, I’m sharing some of the best skirts and skorts to wear to survive the heat.

You can wear any style of top with skorts. However, to create a long, lean look, a cropped top or a top tucked inside the waist of the skort would look the best. This blue skort has zippered pockets to keep your valuables from accidentally falling out.

I love the bright blue color and print, but more versions are available. This skort would be perfect for golf since it is a great length, has pockets, and is straight. The skort also has ball pockets in the shorts which could hold tennis balls or a phone.

The Best Skirts and Skorts To Wear To Survive The Heat – Land’s End

This is a gorgeous classic. You can’t go wrong with stripes! I don’t share a lot from Land’s End for some reason, but they have very nice things. And they are always great quality. This is 100% cotton gauze which means it’s light and cool, and it has a pull-on elastic waist. I think the stripes look great but it’s also available in navy.

Skorts combine the fashionability of a skirt with the practicality of shorts. Like skirts, skorts are typically made from lightweight, breathable fabrics that help keep you cool in hot weather, while the shorts prevent chafing and discomfort. This simple skort is made from polyester and spandex and has an elastic waistband. It’s short, but not TOO short. Where are my apple girls? Show those legs!

Okay, I know that off the rack, it looks a little bland, but bear with me. It’s all about the styling! Put this with a cute tank top and a pair of low-profile shoes, and you will be the epitome of effortless chic. I love the cute pockets! This is from a brand called Sweaty Rocks, and they make affordable and comfortable clothing—especially workout gear, etc. It’s available in several colors, and it’s under $35.

The Best Skirts and Skorts To Wear To Survive The Heat – Nordstrom

These utility shorts by Nordstrom are a great pick for summer! Made from a lightweight blend of cupro, linen, and lyocell, they’re super breathable and perfect for hot days. The relaxed fit and casual-chic style make them comfy and stylish for any occasion.

They have practical side-seam pockets and cargo flap-patch pockets, perfect for keeping your essentials handy. Available in lovely pink smoke and gray plum, these shorts are versatile and easy to pair with your favorite tops, whether you’re heading out for a casual day or lounging at home.

Guaze is all the rage this summer! I love the feel of it, especially as I lay in a sweaty heap on the grass, lol. Isn’t this lemon-colored print skirt lovely? Pair it with a white linen top and some sandals, and you’ll look darling. This has a pull-on waist and a slide slit for even better airflow! It’s unlined and comes in several other colors – tan, navy, and light blue.

Want to be polished and pretty AND cool? This wrap skirt in 100% linen would work for any event. The side tie is a lovely detail. I love this neutral tan color, but it’s also available in black and white. Don’t be afraid of the linen—it’s machine washable! Pair it with the right shoes to dress this up or down.

The Best Skirts and Skorts To Wear To Survive The Heat – Talbots

Shorts are a great way to stay cool, but don’t wear just anything! These beach terry shorts look very put together, which means they are chic and comfy—my favorite combo! Pair them with the matching hoodie if you want to wear them as the temperatures drop. The color says it’s coral, but reviewers mention it’s brighter than the photo portrays.

I’m a big fan of front-tie tops, and the Button Front Knit Tank is fabulous. The straps are wide, so you don’t have to worry about your bra straps playing peek-a-boo. It looks perfect with the Airy Gauze Pull-On Shorts, and I’m wearing a medium in both items.

My preferred shorts length is between 5 and 7 inches, and these have a 5″ inseam which works great. These are the shorts you would wear to run errands, visit with friends, go shopping, basically anything casual!

Casual doesn’t have to mean shlumpy! This lightweight skirt is perfect for summer. It’s packable, wrinkle-resistant, and even protects from the sun with UPF 50. The mini check pattern is very cute and it would look great with a basic white tee and tennis shoes. Talbots always does a gurl right!

    Tania,
Not that you aren’t beautiful in every picture, but gosh, that picture of you in the email, of you wearing the bright blue dress, Wowzers!! You are just as beautiful inside as out, and I love your Sunday posts.

    1. Can you believe that Joe took that photo???

  6. I just can’t manage to let my knees show….I think I am too old. Cute ideas.

  7. I wear only shorts at home in the summer. When I run errands I will wear my linen shorts or a skirt. This summer has not been as hot as other years. We had hot days but we have had a break with rain this month. This week has been mild at only 80s for a high but next week full summer returns.

  8. sue koren says:

    I love a good skort!

  9. I don’t wear a lot of skorts or skirts above the knee as my spider veins are expanding quickly and I hate the way they look.
The denim high waisted a-line skirt is so comfy and versatile and midi skirts have become a favorite.

  10. Thank you for so many good options.

  11. Clarice Main says:

So many cute things to wear!

  12. I don’t wear many skirts but did buy a skort this year that I love. I think flowy dresses are cooler than skirts, but I love the linen wrap skirt and may have to try it!

  13. You’re having our summer! We normally have those upper 90’s. I do outside stuff in the morning and this year, we got a cowboy pool (I’m renaming it a cocktail pool, lol) for afternoon lounging and cool off. Enjoy your time with your girl. Wear one of those cool outfits!

    1. Sounds like a great plan!

  14. Oh yes. Love skorts!!!
