Have you heard of the scarf jacket? Vogue describes it as “a draped, wool-blend coat distinguished by its blanket-stitch border and matching fringed scarf.” They’ve actually been out a while but I’m starting to see them at my local store which means they are TRENDING. Looking to get on board? Today, I’m sharing the best of the trending scarf jacket available now.

I love bringing you gurls the latest trends. Some of these trends are ones I want to jump on board with, and others are ones that I’ll just watch others wear. The scarf jacket is a trend I’m on the fence about, what do you think?

I love a great black and white coat! This can be dressed up or down and looks great with a variety of pieces including dresses or more casual jeans. You can wear it buttoned as shown, or open it up and throw the scarf over your shoulder so that it looks more like a shawl. The black and white is a classic but it’s available in four others.

This coat looks very, very similar to the one above, but there are subtle differences. The buttons are two-tone, almost tortoise-shell. There must be another difference. Sigh. MAYBE the stitching is a bit thicker on one? Well, I’ve included both of these, despite their similarities because there are different colors available at each link.

I feel like I’m losing it because these all look so similar, but is it me, or does the stitching on the black-on-black version look different?! I think the black is very elegant. This is 100% polyester and can be machine-washed. Yay! Just $53 dollars.

Finally, I can spot the differences in this scarf jacket! First of all, the scarf is removable! Love that for when you want to change the look. It’s also much shorter than the others, perfect for my petite gurls. Of course, there’s no fringe either. I think the cream version is gorgeous, but it’s also available in a classic camel as well as grey.

Oooh, I LOVE this. I’ve already said that I am a fan of black and white, but this plaid takes it to a whole new level. Look how gorgeous it looks styled with faux leather leggings! The scarf is also detachable on this beauty. I think you could dress this up with some nice pants and boots, as well as jeans.

Here’s a very chic version from Ted Baker at Bloomingdale’s. I love the solid color and the minimalist one-button closure. This is oversized, so a little longer than some of the others. The scarf is attached, not removable, but I love the way it looks thrown over the shoulder. This is a polyester/wool blend and dry clean only.

Ted Baker loves his scarf coats! I found this beauty at Nordstrom. I love the camel and white chevron and the length. It’s the only scarf coat that I found that hits the knee. The fringe detail at the bottom of the coat, which mimics the scarf fringe, is another nice detail. It is not removable, so keep that in mind.

Vogue says that scarf jackets are made with wool, so they may not approve, but I thought this faux fur coat was too fun to exclude. It has an attached scarf, so I think I should get a pass! This is 100% polyester and fully lined. It runs large, so order one size smaller than usual.

Let me know if you love this trend. I’m a fan and hope it stays around for a while.

  3. Cathy Baird says:

I get my brows tinted every other month. I always feel like they’re so dark, but they quickly lighten up.

I love these coats. My mom made all of our clothes for school, and made this style coat for me in 6th grade. My dad was a teacher, but on weekends, and in the summer he worked at the Pendleton Woolen Mill in Washougal, WA. He would bring home boxes of wool, and my mom would make our coats out of wool, lined them and everything. Loved all the clothes she made for us.

These are so cute, I especially love the Ted Baker. I have an affinity for buying jackets and then end up hardly ever wearing them. It’s hard to find enough cool weather in Houston to make use of all my jackets. I love your emails, especially the one on Sunday. I’m so glad to have found you.

  4. ohh la-la luv the scarf jacket!

  5. I think they are really cute jackets. I especially like the cream colored one.
    May have to try one.

  7. I can see why the style is trending. I especially like the short coat with a removable scarf.

  8. This coat style is really unique and different. I like the black and white one.

I have never seen these before but they look great on you!

  10. sue ann koren says:

All these looks are so chic!

  11. Thanks for showing these jackets with built in stylish scarves! My favorite is the white with black trim but wish it was 100% polyester.

  12. I haven’t seen these. I will pass on them. I already have winter scarves I like to wear with my jackets and coats. I wanted to tell you that I received the navy striped Tshirts that says Amour with a little heart from Loft. It’s so cute. I wished I had asked you about the fit when you styled it like if it was fitted or boxy. It’s boxier and I should have downsized. I’m going to front tuck or all the way in so it doesn’t look boxy. It’s a hassle to exchange. With pants I have no trouble with Loft. But with tops I don’t know if I should order petite small or petite XSmall. Anyway the top is so cute and I am glad you showed it. 😊

  13. Interesting new coat ideas. I really like when the pictures and prices are all included at the bottom of the page. Thanks for all your hard work! I can’t imagine how you come up with so many different ideas to share!

  14. This is not a trend I would embrace but hopefully it works for others.

  16. I’m glad you showed this – an interesting style to consider.

    Your brows look great!

  17. Now this is something I can get excited about!! Love the style of these scarf jackets. My only concern is if they are too heavy- I often get too warm in a coat.
Your eyebrows look good. I need to do something with mine soon- they are a little out of control.

    1. Karen, these aren’t heavy. They are like a felt material, not like a heavy wool coat.

  18. I just saw a scarf jacket on Hoda & Jenna yesterday morning. I like the first one you are wearing. Not sure if I would ever wear one. Your brows look good. Just a bit darker like you mentioned.

  19. Linda Shearer says:

These are beautiful coats but Im not sure I would like having my scarf attached to me all the time. Its cold in the morning here but really warms up in the afternoons!

    1. The scarf isn’t attached on the one I’m wearing.

  20. I have a couple of these scarf jackets and really are enjoying them in all this cold weather!

  21. Interesting new style! Thank you for always keeping us up-to-date!

  22. Jackie Goetsch says:

  23. OM Goodness, I have to have this. So chic looking.

  24. Love these so cool with the matching scarf!

  25. Undecided about this style. I think it’s very chic looking, but may be too much fabric for us shorter gurls. I agree with you about the black and white plaid.
    Thanks for keeping me updated.

  26. Lynnette Davis says:

I’ve never heard of these before! I love the Ted Baker coat from Bloomingdales, so thank you for sharing!

I also LOVE a black coat!! It’s just such a classic and versatile addition— these black/white scarf coats are awesome— they can be dressed up or are very cute as a casual addition! Thanks!!!

  28. The first three coats I did not like. The black one was ok. Loved the next few ones. The shorter coats were not for me. I’ll probably watch this trend. Not participate.
