The Difference Between BB Creams and CC Creams
Before I show you the foundations and BB creams, I thought I’d give you a little bit about the difference. BB creams and CC creams are both types of tinted moisturizers that combine skincare benefits with makeup coverage, but they serve slightly different purposes and offer different benefits.
BB creams typically provide light to medium coverage. They even out your skin tone and provide a natural, radiant finish. Typically, they contain ingredients that hydrate, protect, and offer anti-aging benefits like SPF, antioxidants, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid.
CC creams offer slightly more coverage than BB creams, typically medium coverage. They are formulated to correct color-related skin issues such as redness, sallowness, or dark spots. They might also contain skincare ingredients, but they often focus more on anti-aging and color correction.

Hi Tania,
I love the Maybelline BB cream. I have tried more expensive brands but always come back to Maybelline.
Thanks for the post about foundations for mature skin. You look beautuful in the Charlotte Tilsbury foundation. I usually use Estee Lauder but have been thinking about the Charlotte Tiilsbury. I am going to try it.
Great information. Thanks the updates on healthy enhancement.
I have no idea why so many people are such huge supporters of ELF cosmetics, except maybe the price. I made the mistake of cheaping out and buying a bunch of ELF cosmetics and I just ended up throwing it all out. I tried the Poreless Putty for two weeks and no matter what I did, it looked like absolute garbage. It’s definitely a no-go for dry skin. It just settled into the fine lines and looked awful. The ELF Concealer was even worse! I should’ve known it would be truly awful when I tested some on the back of my hand and it literally sucked all of the moisture out of it. Despite this, I tried it on my face with abysmal results. Yet again, it was garbage. Every single fine line and crease in my skin was accentuated by this horrid product. Do yourself a favour, Ladies. Don’t waste a dime if your money on it.
Just for reference: I have just turned 49 and I am always guessed ten years younger, so I don’t have a terrible time with fine lines and wrinkles, but I’ve had a solid skincare routine since I was in my early twenties. I never smoked, have always worn sunscreen on my face, and have not ever had any Botox or fillers. In the past year, I have started doing at-home chemical peels which I find really do make a difference.
Heather, I’ve found that everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently to products. What works for one doesn’t always work for others. We have to try lots of different products to find out what works best for us.
Thanks for clarifying the differences between BB & CC products! Great info!
I have used Cover Girl Smoothers Lightweight BB cream for over 30 years. It has an SPF 15 and people guess my age at least 20 years younger than I am (I am 70) so I guess it does something right!! I only recently started doing a more complete skin care regimen based on some of your suggestions. Thank you!
Foundation makeup is the hardest for me. I hate when you can see where it stops and starts.
Great post for our makeup needs!
Have you ever tried the Jones Road Miracle Balm products? I’d be interested in what you think.
She looks great in her 60’s
No, I’ve never heard of that. I need to look into it.
I have been using IT Cosmetics CC+ illumination cream for several years now. I love it & will not change. IT has sunscreen and great coverage.
Great post. A lot of affordable options. I use Laura Gellar spackle for primer and Tarte shape tape for concealer. I recently discovered Anastasia luminous foundation and I love it.
I really like the Maybelline BB cream and Fit Me foundation. Great products at such an affordable price. Thanks for the other suggestions, too!
My favorite is Chantecaille’s Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer. It’s full of soothing botanicals that moisturize and soothe my skin. It also acts as a primer. I’ve been using it for about a year and it has greatly improved the look of my skin.
That’s great to hear.
Elf makes a good primer. I like Tarte concealer, the one that has extra moisturizer not the regular one.
Thank you for always giving us great options and price points.
Elf products are really good! I only use Estée Lauder and elf products.
I use Olay Total Effects 7 in 1 CC cream and love it. Light coverage but perfect for those “no makeup” days and I wear it under my foundation when I do a full make up. Moisturizer, e.l.f. poreless primer, the Olay, then light foundation and I get a really smooth but not cakey look.
Great price is on so many of these thank you.
Cute football sweatshirt! And Buc-cee’s is a shopper’s paradise! Their house blend coffee is so good, too!
