The Best Gingham Shirts For Women Over 50
Gingham is having a moment! It’s not just for tablecloths, lol. In fact, I’ve found some of the best gingham shirts for women over 50, and not one of them is red! I’m bringing you shirts from several of my favorite retailers, and you’ll see that the prevailing color combo is black and white. Hey, it’s a classic color combo for a classic shirt. Plus, no one will think you stole a tablecloth.
Below are some older posts from WAY back…I’ve been a fan of gingham for a long time.

This gingham print shirt just arrived last week, and I couldn’t wait to take a few photos with it. Even if gingham wasn’t trending, I would still wear this shirt. This outfit manages to look comfortable, relaxed, and stylish all at the same time.
I love how the placket’s gingham check is turned on an angle. That gives the shirt more visual interest. Plus, can you see the dotted print on the inside of the cuffs, neckline, and placket? Rolling up the sleeves and letting the dotted design show looks super cute.
Gingham is a “happy” print, and it always makes me smile. This green and white Gingham Lightweight Cotton Shirt is the perfect spring and summer shirt! It has long sleeves for chilly mornings that can be rolled up as the temperatures rise.
The Teddie Sweater looks adorable over the gingham button-up shirt. The sweater is lightweight and not bulky, so it is a perfect layering sweater. You can wear the sweater alone or under a jacket if you don’t want to pair it with a collared shirt. This sweater comes in lots of different colors, and you are bound to find a couple of colors that would be perfect for you. I’m wearing a medium, and it fits me great. You can size up if you want a more relaxed look.
This classic button-down in black and white can be worn all year round. Made from lightweight, airy cotton poplin that’s been washed for a soft, lived-in feel, this shirt is a versatile staple. It also features a handy chest pocket and a back yoke with a box pleat for added comfort. It’s a very affordable way to get in on the trend. Pair it with jeans or some white trousers and a cute pair of tennis shoes.
How sweet is this Puff Sleeve Smock Shirt? I love the sleeve and ruffle neckline. It’s a cute, lightweight, and breathable shirt that can be worn casually or dressed up for fancier events. If you’re not into gingham but like the silhouette, there are several variations at the link. I have this in the Camel Cheetah print; it is one of my best sellers.

Check out the effortlessly stylish No Iron™ Stretch Gingham Shirt from Chico’s, one of my all-time favorite retailers! This customer favorite is famous for its wrinkle-free, no-iron fabric, meaning you’ll look polished straight out of the dryer. You can wear it alone or as a layering piece. It would look chic with dark wash jeans and black loafers.
You should know by now how much I love the brand CeCe! This cute top features a charming combination of cheery checks and tiny blooms, creating a look that’s modern and feminine. Made from a lightweight blend of polyester and rayon, it’s perfect for day-long wear. You know I love the split neck and short sleeves with a ruffle. It’s all about the details!

Don’t pass on this cute Eileen Fisher linen button-up shirt because it’s sleeveless. That’s what cardigans are for! Perfect for hot days, its lightweight design makes it a perfect piece for layering. Click the link to see how chic it looks paired with white linen pants. Throw on some bold-colored sandals for a pop of color!
Pink is another color that I found a lot in my quest for gingham. This top from Talbot’s is an easy way to add a pop of playful charm to your wardrobe. It features a classic neckline and is made from a comfortable cotton blend with just a touch of spandex for that perfect fit. Available in a range of sizes, including petite and plus, it’s a great piece to incorporate into any outfit for a touch of summery flair.

I told you pink was big! This 100% Linen Boyfriend Shirt offers a relaxed fit that’s perfect for laid-back days. Its lightweight linen fabric makes it great for warm weather. Linen is known for breathability and feels wonderful against the skin. Because it’s a “boyfriend” shirt, it will be oversized, so if you want a more tailored fit, be sure to size down.
Here’s a piece of sunshine in a shirt! This top from Loft brings effortless polish with an easy-going vibe. Designed with a relaxed, roomy fit, it features a point collar, a button front, and a patch chest pocket, perfect for a laid-back yet put-together look. The tunic length hits at the thigh, making it ideal for pairing with leggings or slim fitting jeans.

Finally, I’m adding in this large checked shirt. Is it gingham? Well, some might say it’s buffalo plaid, but the only difference is the size of the grid. You learn something new every day! Made from a soft, skin-friendly mix of 92% cotton and 8% polyester, this shirt features a classic button-down front, a stylish collar, and two flap chest pockets, making it as functional as it is fashionable. The versatile design allows you to wear it open as a light jacket or buttoned up as a cozy top. Its oversized fit and drop shoulder pairs effortlessly with anything from jeans and leggings to dresses!
Let me know in the comments if you’re going to incorporate gingham in your summer wardrobe! I think it’s fresh and fun!

Love Gingham also. So smart and classic.
I love gingham and can’t wait until Spring to pull it out! I have black, navy and pink. After seeing you wear the green one with the Teddie sweater, I am going to have to get that one as well. 😊 I already have that green Teddie sweater! Thanks for this post!
HI! I really liked the Teddie sweater you featured. I went to our local JCrew and bought one in the Periwinkle color and also one of their twin sets. Looking forward to getting lots of wear out of them this summer and fall – Thanks!
I see the Vionic shoes are available at Wal-Mart! How do they run? My normal size isn’t shown in white, so I wonder if they run small, large, narrow, wide? If I need to size up or down, I could be in luck.
In my experience, they tend to run true to size. Good luck!
Thank you! Glad I came back to check for a response. 🙂
I love the Chico’s and Talbot’s gingham shirts. So classy!
I love gingham! So fresh and cute. 🙂
I love the gingham with white pants, but I always make a mess of white pants or shorts. ☹️
There are navy gingham at Talbots that I have my eye on.eye

I have always been drawn to gingham! I will be checking these out!
So many adorable gingham shirts! I love gingham too. The green is a favorite and with that sweater…so cute! Thanks for showing so many choices. I’ve several gingham shirts, but not green. Maybe I need green?
Gingham has been a life-long favorite for me! Thanks for these classic, beautiful choices. I’ll be adding some to my summer closet.
I bet Tom would not be happy if he saw the neighbor cat making itself at home on his turf. While you look great in the pictures and I like several of the options you shared, I won’t be adding any gingham to my closet. I don’t have a real need for another top. I had no idea that Wal-Mart sells Vionic online! I wish those you are wearing were lace up.
I actually liked the Vionic because they weren’t lace up shoes. I like to just pull them on and go.
Lots of fun options! Gingham is so cute for summer.
Great blouses, very cute!
Tinkerbell might be getting too comfy. I too love gingham!
Love gingham!
Nothing screams summer like gingham!! These blouses/shirts are all great choices!!

Tania you look fabulous in the blue check shirt/white jeans! Compare it to the green check pic, you look great!
These are so cute and can be worn so many different ways year round!
Love gingham shirts especially the black and white ones.
I loved gingham as a little girl so I’m happy to see options for a grown up! I like the pink and white boyfriend shirt and the black and white puffed sleeves best.
Gingham is timeless! I have loved this print since I was a teen- many years ago!
I love them
Oh, I love the green shirt and sweater from J Crew!!! Happy Monday, Tania ❤❤❤
I always have something in my closet that is gingham. It is a classic print and it make me happy to wear it! It’s a bonus that it’s on trend right now.
BTW, I wore the Picnic Gingham shirt to church yesterday. Like you said, it looks stylish and causal at the same time.
I love the kelly green shirt and sweater! Thanks for letting us know that the shirt ran small. I just ordered them and sized up on the shirt.
Thanks, Tania, for the $50 Amazon gift card that I won in your weekly giveaway. Looking forward to using it!
I’ve been looking for a black and white gingham forever. Excited to see this post!
Gingham is always in style in my book. Love it. I think I need that J. Crew pink one.
BTW, you hair looks fantastic today.
Love gingham in the summer! Black and white gingham is great with white pants or jeans!!
I have almost purchased the J Crew Shirt like 3 times, except in the blue gingham. I just need to do it…and now I need to add a green Teddy Sweater. I actually have the sleeveless gingham blue button up from J Crew, but I think it’s a tad too tight on me now 🙁
Love the floral embroidery gingham top. Just a little softer look but still gingham.
Nothing better than the polished look of white and gingham
When the May catalog from Talbots arrived, I loved the gingham. There’s even a blue gingham blazer. Probably not practical, from a $$ point of view, but it is really cute. Love Gingham…
Love gingham!
Love gingham! So cheerful – thanks for the reviews
I love gingham, thanks for sharing!
Nice tops today
Great post, love a great gingham shirt!
I love all of these but I was raised with alot of gingham, ruffles, scalloped hems etc. Thank you for sharing these! The Fluid Twill Short Puff Sleeve Smock Shirt is the cutest ever!
