The Best Eyeshadow For Women Over 50
Today, we’re talking all about the best eyeshadows for women over 50, and let me tell you, choosing the right one can make a world of difference. PLEASE tell me that you don’t neglect eyeshadow when you are putting on your makeup. It’s not all about eyeliner and lashes. As we get a little wiser (ha!), our skin changes, and so should our shadow. That’s why I’m here to share some of my favorite tips and picks that will keep you looking fabulous and feeling confident.
Whether you’re into creamy textures or a subtle satin finish, I’ve got the scoop on the best options that won’t settle into fine lines or wrinkles. That’s a biggie for mature women and our skin. You’ll find a ton of colors, creams, powders, and even a few brushes. Enjoy!

The Best Cream Eyeshadow For Women Over 50
Have you heard of Laura Mercier? I’m a fan! It’s super easy to apply, which is a must. The creamy texture means it won’t settle into those fine lines around our eyes, keeping us looking fresh and youthful. Plus, it’s long-lasting, so no need to worry about touch-ups when you’re out and about.
This one is a must-have for its smooth finish and ease of use. Tip: Unlike darker shades that can sometimes be too harsh, taupe provides a soft definition to the eyes. It enhances your eye shape without looking too heavy or dramatic, making it great for everyday wear.
Now, this cream eyeshadow pencil comes in a gorgeous array of colors including soft peach and sunlit gold. I love how versatile it is; you can go from a subtle day look to a glamorous evening look in no time. It’s also perfect for our mature eyes because it’s hydrating and gentle. It stays put, so you’ll look fabulous all day! Tip: Pink shades, particularly those with a subtle shimmer or satin finish, can help brighten the eyes, making them appear more awake and lively.
The Best Matte Eyeshadow For Women Over 50
Ulta has a ton of great eyeshadows. This matte eyeshadow is fantastic for creating a sophisticated look. What do you expect from Mac? It’s velvety and smooth, which means no creasing or smudging. The matte finish gives a chic, polished look. Tip: Copper shades are particularly flattering on a variety of eye colors. They make blue eyes pop, bring out the green in hazel eyes, and add warmth to brown eyes.
Another great matte option that I love! I have this palette, and it might be why I am a huge fan of Tarte! (I even get my niece’s makeup from this brand every Christmas.) It’s got such rich pigmentation, so a little goes a long way. Think about wearing this during family gatherings or when you’re out with friends. It blends like a dream and stays put all day.
These are definitely among my top picks. Tip: These versatile shades complement most skin tones, but my favorites are the plum ones. I love using the darker shades as a liner for my lower lashes. You can use them wet or dry and apply them next to your lash line. I also like to apply them in the outer corners because they are easy to smudge, so you don’t get a harsh line.
The Best Eyeshadow Pallets For Women Over 50
I know that I keep saying, “these are my favorite eye shadows,” but I really like them ALL. That could be why my makeup bag weighs seventy-five pounds, lol. Anyway, this neutral shade palette is wonderful. The matte shades are flattering and versatile, making it perfect for everyday wear. They’re easy to blend and can be layered for a more dramatic look.
This is a definite eye makeup win. Plus, it’s paraben-free, sulfate-free, and phthalate-free. And it includes the eyeshadow primer. Awesome! Who needs those yucky ingredients on their lids? No one! Tip: Bronze is a highly versatile color that can be worn for both day and night looks. It can be applied lightly for a natural, sun-kissed look during the day or layered for more intensity.
This palette is a hoot! Look at those shade names – Bite Me, Skinny Dipped, Sexts & Candy. Too Faced is Too Funny. The eyeshadows in this palette smell delicious and are known for their creamy, blendable texture. This is good for mature skin, as it means the shadows go smoothly onto your eyelids without settling into fine lines or creases. Easy blending also allows for more control in creating a soft, natural finish or a more dramatic look if desired.
Do you check the formulas in your makeup? This one mentions that it’s coconut butter-infused. Interesting! Tip: Eye primers create a smooth canvas and help eyeshadow stay in place for longer periods. They prevent eyeshadow from fading, smudging, or creasing throughout the day.
The Best Satin Eyeshadow For Women Over 50
Clinique knows a thing or two about makeup. This eyeshadow offers a bit of shimmer without being too much, just enough to make your eyes pop. It comes in several neutral shades and well as a pretty pink. Tip: After applying your eyeshadow, use a light, shimmery shade on your brow bone (just under the arch of your eyebrow) to highlight the area. This step brightens and lifts the eyes, giving them a more youthful and open appearance.
Okay, bear with me. This Chanel satin eyeshadow is all about luxury! It’s perfect for those special moments when you want to feel a little extra. The satin finish is sophisticated and doesn’t settle into fine lines, which is a big plus for mature skin. Think of wearing this at a holiday party or a special family event where you want to make a statement.
It’s long-wearing and keeps you looking fabulous all night long. Treat yourself, Gurls; you deserve it! Tip: Rouge eyeshadows can enhance certain eye colors, particularly green and blue eyes, by creating a vibrant contrast. The warmth of the red can make these eye colors appear more intense and vivid.
The Best Eyeshadow Brushes For Women Over 50
Last but not least, these eyeshadow brushes are essential! They make applying your eyeshadow a breeze, ensuring a smooth, even finish every time. The different shapes and sizes help you create any look you desire, from a simple daytime look to a dramatic evening look. You’ll be makeup artists before I’m done with you!
I hope you found these tips and items helpful, Gurls! Remember, the right eyeshadow can make all the difference.

I love Tarte mascaras. I have not tried the eyeshadows yet. Althoufh, my favorite on here is the Urban Decay neutrals. Love them! That is such a beautiful picture of you on today’s post.
I needed the simple tip about pink eyeshadow. Thanks.
love the idea of stick eyeshadow. I’ve used powder. I think I’d really like a crayon.
They are so easy to use.
I use the Urban Decay primer and a IT eyeshadow stick. Easy peasy!!
You had mentioned the Laura Mercier caviar trio in a previous post. That is on my “to try” list. 🙂 I have a small Tarte palette which I love and a single shadow from Jane Iredale. But I am guilty as charged, often I just use eyeliner and throw mascara on, and neglect applying shadow. (Hiding head in shame…) LOL!
Carolyn, I’ve found that if I don’t use an eyeshadow, my eyeliner and mascara don’t stay on as long. If nothing else, I’ll apply a skintone eyeshadow for that reason.
I have never tried eye shadow sticks. I think I need to give them a chance.
Hi! I just found your blog and am loving it!
These tips are excellent and I’ve used some of the products you mention but they are all high end. Do you have any suggestions for drug store products or lower priced brands? If you could recommend any that would be very helpful.
Thank you and I’m looking forward to following your blog, including archives!
I’ve done several makeup related post for drug store brands, but not one for eyeshadow specifically. I’ll see what I can do.
ELF makes some great eye shadow sticks that I use every day. There is a taupe-y metallic one (don’t remember the exact name) that is my favorite. They’re $5.00 each – can’t beat the price and the quality is great!
Thanks for the selections. I don’t wear eye shadow all the time anymore because every brand whether expensive or cheap wears out. I’m going to have to get a primer and see if it makes a difference.
Elf and L’Oreal make really good stick shadows and they are very budget friendly! They stay on all day and do not crease. Good option to experiment with!
Love your grandkid stories.
Love these posts. If you have not tried Anastasia eyeshadow primer…. It’s a must have for older eyes. Smooth, luxurious, long lasting and not all that expensive. A little bit goes a long way
Thanks

Tonya, Thank you for the variety of info you give us. You are a BUSY lady! I read your newsletter every morning with my tea.
I am 70 and have been using the creme stick eye shadows for a couple of years. I find it is an easy application for mature eyesight. I can accomplish a very nice look with one or two colors. It is easier than powder type shadows to apply and less steps.
I have never been great at make up application. My sister was wonderful at it, I wish she had taught me before ovarian cancer took her. I find myself buying makeup over and over and then applying the same old pattern. Gotta work on it.
Great ideas! I already used some of the products and look forward to trying some new ones.
So glad you included Clinique in your post about eye shadow. My eyes are very sensitive to eye shadow, liner and mascara. Almay shadows work for me too.
I like eyeshadow sticks now!
Thank you for this post – eye shadow choices and tips for our “mature” eyes. LOL
