Summer is in full swing, and the temperatures are soaring! Today, I am joining with some blogging friends to bring you many summer accessories that you can wear to add some pizzaz to any outfit! I”ll be showing you TEN different accessories to help you UP your summer style.
Accessories are usually affordable, and they can really elevate an otherwise blah or bland outfit. I love wearing white on white or black on black outfits, but they beg for accessories to make them come to life. Jennifer, Cindy, and I will show you different summer accessories that will do just that. Most of my photos are older, so the exact accessory might not be available, so I’ll link to similar items instead.
Summer Accessories – Sunglasses
Sunglasses are the “coolest” of accessories! They not only protect your eyes from the sun, but they can give you an elegant factor as well. Some sunglasses are sporty, while some are functional. I tend to buy fashionable sunglasses, but I still want them to have the protection level that my eyes need.
Sunglasses can vary in price range also. You can buy a pair for a couple of bucks or in the hundreds of dollars. So, depending on your budget and your ability not to lose your glasses, you have a wide variety of styles to choose from.
The pair that I am wearing is by Ray-Ban, a brand that most of you know and trust. I wear these pretty much daily, and I recently bought a pair by Versace that will be more for special occasions. If you are willing to invest in a great pair of sunglasses with lenses that really enhance brilliant colors, then you might want to look at the Maui Jim line. Plus, they have a great warranty policy.
Summer Accessories -Jewelry
Jewelry is another fun accessory that can vary greatly in price. You can buy fine jewelry that can go with anything and that you will wear for years. Or, you can buy fun and fashionable jewelry that isn’t as costly that you will wear for several years. I have both types of jewelry, and I also have a lot of vintage jewelry that I like adding to my outfits occasionally.
I style a lot of jewelry by Kendra Scott. I love the quality and style, but I usually purchase only the silver and gold-tone items and not the colorful stones. If I want fun and trendy jewelry, then Chico’s is my go-to store. Their jewelry is very nice quality and is mostly nickel-free. The multi-strand necklace above is from Chico’s, and it will also be gorgeous to wear this fall.
Summer Accessories – Headbands
Headbands are a new addition to my summer accessories. I’ve never looked good in headbands, but my recent haircut has changed that. I have a lot of coarse and thick hair, so when I had longer hair, it poofed and didn’t look very good when I wore a headband. Headbands serve a great purpose of keeping your hair out of your eyes, but the fashionable purpose is also important.
I recently grabbed this navy headband with gold stars for the 4th of July, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it looked. I am now buying a few others for fall, and I’ll link those below for you.
Summer Accessories – Scarves
Scarves are one of my favorite accessories, no matter which season it happens to be. I wear scarves all year round, and I even use them as my outfit inspiration. If you have trouble putting colors together, just pull out a colorful scarf. In the scarf above, you can see how I could pair pinks, blues, black, gray, white, and caramel together when I might not have thought that the colors worked together.
If you think that it is too hot where you live to wear a scarf around your neck, then you might try wearing it as a belt, a headband, or even tying it around the handle of a handbag. You will still get a pop of color that will add interest to your outfit.
Here, I wore a scarf as a belt.
And, here is how I wore the same silk scarf as a headband.
This is a vintage scarf that I tied around the handles of a bamboo handbag. The colors in the scarf are also in my dress to tie the two items together and create a polished and thought-out look.
Summer Accessories – Sandals
Yay, for sandals! I love wearing all types of sandals, but I must admit, espadrilles have my heart. There is something about the raffia or rope sole that draws me in. I have a ton of espadrille shoes, and I wear them all summer long. Some of my espadrilles are wedge heels like the ankle-wrapped pair above, but I also have several styles that are flats.
This is my favorite pair of espadrilles that are flats. They are by Chanel, and I love the tattered and worn look of these two-tone shoes. They are extremely fashionable but not that comfortable. Lol! Here are some espadrilles that are fashionable and hopefully comfortable also.
Summer Accessories -Straw Hats
Does anything say summer more than a straw hat? Hats don’t look that great on me, and the only type that I can wear has large brims. This oversized packable hat definitely has a wide brim, and I love all of the drama that it packs. This hate also comes in several colors, including black, which would look so elegant.
Hats also serve the purpose of keeping the sun out of your eyes. But, more importantly, they help to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun.
Summer Accessories – Faux-Tan
A gorgeous tan is a wonderful summer accessory. I try to avoid getting a tan by the sun and instead opt for a faux tan. My years of tanning as a youth have left me with one too many sunspots, so I now get my tan out of a can. I use Loving Tan, and you can read all about how to get a perfect faux-tan HERE.
Summer Accessories – Summer Handbags
I am a handbag person! Shoes, not so much, but I’ll take all of the handbags that you can throw at me. Handbags would be the area that I would splurge, but I am still conservative with my purchases even then. I want to carry the handbag for a long time so that I get my money’s worth from it.
I love the Michael Kors handbag above, and I had one very similar that I carried for years. I bought this one early this spring, but it, unfortunately, sold out months ago.
A wicker bag is a great summer bag also. My mother actually made fun of this one and called it a fishing bag. Oh well, I think that it is super cute.
I bought this bamboo handbag several years ago. This style was all the rage because of a Cult Gaia handbag that looked just like this but was crazy expensive. I found this one on Amazon, and it has a 5-star rating with over 2500 reviews. Plus, it is under $40.00, so it is a great deal! I don’t carry it a lot, but it is great to take on vacation, etc.
Summer Accessories – Ruana or Kimonos
I love a summer kimono or ruana! This is another high drama accessory that can really turn any outfit into a WOW outfit. This duster cardigan’s beautiful dark forest green background is the perfect setting for the pale gold leopard print and floral print. Plus, as a bonus, there is thick yarn style embroidery, which sets the print off. This duster is not lightweight, so it is probably more suited for late summer or early fall.
Bonus Summer Accessories:
A beautiful lipstick – I am obsessed with Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue Ultra Wear Lip Colour by Chanel. I have a wide variety of them; I am love, love, love them! They come in a wide variety of colors, and one end of the tube is a gloss.
A manicure and pedicure – this is something that I NEED badly!
A beautiful smile – this one is free and doesn’t cost a thing!
An adorable dog – this one is priceless!!! Meet Lucy Lu, my constant shadow.
