Every spring, I start noticing the same thing around my house… nothing is really wrong, but everything feels a little tired. The patio looks dull, the front door has seen better days, and inside just doesn’t feel as fresh as I want it to.

The issue is that I’m not much of a decorator, but I’ve learned it only takes a few simple updates to make a big difference. This is exactly how I prep my home and patio for spring so everything feels clean, welcoming, and ready for the season ahead.

The Fireplace is a Main Attraction: Make it Warm and Cozy

Adding a little greenery to my house makes it feel more welcoming. However, my lack of a green thumb makes it hard for me to keep houseplants alive, so I was thrilled to find these snake plants that look so realistic.

Start With a Good Clean (This Makes the Biggest Difference)

Before you buy anything new, clean everything.

I know that doesn’t sound exciting, but it’s honestly the step that makes the biggest impact. Winter leaves behind dirt, grime, and buildup that you don’t always notice until it’s gone.

A pressure washer is one of my favorite tools this time of year. It instantly brightens up your driveway, patio, sidewalks, and even outdoor furniture. It’s one of the fastest ways to make your home look refreshed without changing anything else.

If you don’t have one, it’s worth it. This is one of those purchases you’ll use every single year.

Refresh Your Front Door (It Sets the Tone for Everything)

Your entryway is the first thing people see, and it’s such an easy place to make your home feel more welcoming.

Update Your Doormat

A bright and colorful doormat from Ruggable to welcome your guests.
Tendril Teal Large Doormat

I was so thrilled that my new doormat arrived earlier today. This is a washable Ruggable rug, and it is the third doormat I own. Since I first bought a doormat with a rubber base, I now only have to buy a machine-washable cover. I love switching out my doormats for each season.

After winter, doormats tend to look worn and tired. Swapping in a fresh one instantly makes your entryway feel cleaner.

I love layering a larger rug under my welcome mat. It looks so cute and adds that extra touch of personality!

Add a New Wreath

A wreath is one of the easiest ways to make your home feel seasonal. Spring wreaths with greenery or soft florals can completely change the look of your front door. It’s a small detail, but it makes your home feel more cared for.

Check Your Front Porch Lighting

This is one thing people forget. If your bulbs are dim, yellow, or burned out, swap them for something brighter and more natural. It makes your home feel safer and more updated right away.

If you have a hanging pendant light instead of a wall-mounted fixture, this is a great option to swap in. It adds a fresh, updated look without a lot of effort and works perfectly for brightening up your entryway for spring.

Bring Your Patio Back to Life

If your patio has been ignored all winter, you’re not alone.

Wipe Down or Wash Your Furniture

Even if you covered it, outdoor furniture collects dust and pollen.

Give everything a quick wipe down or rinse. Add fresh cushions if yours are faded or flat, and suddenly everything feels new again.

Add or Swap Out Planters

This is one of my favorite updates. New planters can completely change the look of your outdoor space. I like mixing different heights and textures to make things feel more styled without trying too hard.

Layer in Outdoor Rugs or Pillows

If your space feels a little plain, this is the easiest fix.

An outdoor rug makes the space feel more like an extension of your home instead of an afterthought. You can find rugs in all sorts of colors and patterns, but I like using a neutral like black, tan, or navy.

A few fresh pillows add color, personality, and a little extra comfort to your outdoor furniture. My top tip for making your pillows look expensive is using a quality insert like this one.

Don’t Forget These Small but Important Updates

These aren’t the “fun” things, but they make your life easier.

Hide Your Spare Key the Smart Way

If your key is still under a flowerpot or mat, it’s time for an upgrade. There are so many clever hidden key holders now, like this rock one or this turtle one, that blend into your outdoor decor. It’s a simple way to feel a little more secure.

Check Your Outdoor Storage

I have this exact storage box on my screened-in porch. It is the perfect solution for reorganizing cushions, gardening tools, or outdoor accessories. It makes everything feel less cluttered and easier to enjoy.

Refresh Your Outdoor Trash Area

Not glamorous, but worth it. Give your bins a quick rinse and wipe down the area around them. It makes a bigger difference than you’d expect.

You can buy these to help trap any flies you may get near your garbage as the weather warms up.

Easy Spring Updates Inside Your Home

Spring prep isn’t just outside.

Switch to Lighter Textiles

Put away the heavy blankets and darker tones. Swap in lighter throws, brighter pillow covers, and breathable fabrics. It instantly makes your home feel more in season.

Do a Quick Declutter

You don’t need to organize your entire house. Just focus on a few key areas like your entryway, kitchen counters, or coffee table. Clearing surfaces makes everything feel calmer and more put-together.

Add a Fresh Scent

Aera diffuser with Vanilla and Pumpkin Spice capsules

I don’t do many things that have a fragrance because they give me a headache. So, I was skeptical, but I wanted to give this a try. And, I’m happy to say, this diffuser keeps my house smelling SO good, and headache-free!

I can usually use “food” smells without an issue, so Vanilla is my go-to scent. The scents are clean, not overwhelming, and the scheduling feature keeps the house smelling fresh without me thinking about it.

This is one of my favorite little tricks. A light candle, a diffuser, or even opening the windows can make your whole home feel cleaner and more refreshed.
