Sporting A Black Eye For Jesus

I recently made a trip back to my hometown to visit my family. This trip happens every 5 to 6 weeks since I also have my beautiful daughter-in-law cut and color my hair. I always look forward to these trips and spending time with my parents, children, grandchildren, siblings, and the rest of my extended family is fun.

My last trip was probably the most relaxed and laid-back trip I’ve had. This time, I didn’t have an agenda of people to visit or places to go. In fact, I don’t think I even put on makeup the entire time I was there. 😳

I was laughing and telling Joe about not wearing makeup the entire trip. The following day, I needed to take photos, etc., so I went to put on some makeup. That’s when I noticed my right eye looked dark in the corner. Since I hadn’t worn mascara in several days, I knew it wasn’t that, but I had no idea why it looked like that. I brushed it off, thinking that I must not have slept well while I was gone.

The next morning, there was no mistaking that I had a small black eye coming on. I showed my eye to Joe, and he asked me who I had gotten into a fight with. You talk about being confused; I racked my brain to think of something I might have done to get a black eye.

Then, it hit me! My cross hit me. I can’t remember exactly what I was doing, but I remember that my cross flipped up and hit me in the eye area. At the time, I remembered thinking, “whew, I’m glad that it didn’t hit me in the eye; that could have been dangerous.”

Once I figured out what happened, I laughed and said, NOT TODAY, SATAN!

I love wearing my crosses, and I have several that I wear all the time. Some are small, some are ornate, and some are large. The one I was wearing at the time was large and on a long chain, so that’s why it could flip up and hit me in the eye. But I’m not wearing the crosses as a fashion statement; I’m wearing them to show others that I love the Lord.

Matthew 22:37

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

My love of the Lord comes in many different forms, but wearing a cross is a way that I can show my love to others. The Lord loves us in many forms, also. He shows up grace, forgiveness, and mercy. But, His greatest display of love also involved a cross.

Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:19

19 We love because he first loved us.

My black eye is a small price to pay for showing my love and pales in comparison to the price Jesus paid. But, each time I look at my necklace, I’ll be reminded that showing your love for the Lord can leave a mark, and it’s one I’m willing to have.

To God Goes The Glory!

Have A Blessed Day!

  1. Are you familiar with Dear Mushka? It’s a jewelry line (primarily) and all the jewelry is based off scripture. The sweetest family is behind it…it’s another way to share Jesus and for personal reminders/encouragement.

I need to start wearing one of my cross necklaces all of the time! It is a reminder for me to always behave in a way that pleases my Heavenly Father. Thanks for sharing your story.

I love that you love the Lord as I do!

  4. I love crosses, too. I always love seeing yours. I’ve awakened with a black eye, but not bcz of a cross. I’ve had a black eye from burning my forehead with a curling iron!
I love that you’re a Christian and not afraid to share your faith.

  5. Love all your posts, but especially the Sunday ones! Thanks for sharing your faith.

  8. Your Sunday posts are always my favorite because they focus on our Lord Jesus Christ – Savior of the world. Having a picture analogy like the one with the black eye is wonderful. We all have marks/scars that are seen or unseen regarding our faith. It’s those that are seen that show others what Jesus means to us are the ones others see symbol be it a cross, a T-shirt with a Bible verse or a plaque with a saying sitting on our desk in the office, but our actions towards others can show even greater who Jesus is and why he’s important to us and I see that in so many of your posts. Keep it up 🥰

  9. To God be the glory! Seeing the good and God in every circumstance.

AMEN! To God be the Glory! Thank you for the uplifting post-we got another 10 inches of snow last night here in N WI and it’s still coming down so spirits are a bit low right now. Thank you for helping me change my focus from being depressed about the weather to an attitude of gratitude and celebration for a God who loves me and all I have to be hopeful about!
