Spanx Dress Review: Are Spanx Dresses Really the Perfect Dress?

SPANX first hit the scene way back in 2000. Founded by Sara Blakely, SPANX started with a simple concept – to create a footless pantyhose that would provide slimming and smoothing under clothing. The brand has made a big impact on the fashion world. SPANX has since evolved into a multi-million-dollar empire, offering a wide range of clothing items.

You’ve heard me talk about how much I love their Bra-llelujah bra, their faux leather leggings, and most recently their white button-down. When I recently heard about their line of “Perfect Dresses,” I knew I had to try them. Today, I am doing a full Spanx dress review on their Perfect Fit and Flare dress and A-line 3/4 sleeve dress. Keep reading to see what I love about each dress!

Spanx Perfect Fit and Flare Dress Review

The first Perfect Dress I tried was the Fit and Flare version. This dress is designed to be tight around your bust and then flare out. This is one of my favorite dress silhouettes because it’s super flattering. It’s available in black and red, but I opted for the red. I think it is so bold but also chic and classic.

One of my favorite features is the fact that both dresses are machine washable, because who has time for dry-cleaning! I love that it has hidden functional pockets. They are the perfect size for carrying a tissue and a lipstick! You could fit more in there, but I think that would add visual bulk to your hips. I also really like that the zipper has an elongated ribbon attached, making it easy to reach on my own.

This dress could easily be dressed up or down. I wanted to dress it up like I would wear it out for a date night with Joe, so I paired the dress with a pair of leopard print heels and one of my favorite handbags. I also put on my pearl necklace and pearl bracelet. You could trade out the heels for ballet flats, mules, or sandals to dress it down for a more casual daytime look.

The fabric is buttery soft, but sturdy so that it smooths and hides any lumps or bulges. I ordered it in a large, and it fits me like a glove, so I would say it is true to size. This dress is so versatile, and I can see myself wearing it to church, date nights, and so much more!

Spanx Perfect Dress A-line 3/4 Sleeve Dress Review

The second Perfect Dress I am wearing is the Perfect A-line 3/4 Sleeve Dress. It also comes in black and red, so I decided to try this version in the black. You’ve heard me talk before about the importance of having a great little black dress in your closet, and I think I’ll find myself reaching for this LBD all the time!

If you don’t like showing your arms, you will prefer this version. Since this dress has 3/4 sleeves, it can be a staple in your wardrobe year round. The sleeves have a small zipper at the cuff, so you can wear them zipped or unzipped. It has the same easy to use zipper as the first dress and also features hidden pockets.

I think the fit of the dress is very flattering, especially in combination with the smoothing ponte fabric. It hits at the perfect spot just above my knees for a modest length that makes it appropriate for everything from work, to dinner, to the funeral home, etc. I’m 5’6″ and wearing a large for reference, so it may be longer or shorter on you, depending on your height.

  1. GOODNESS!!!!! I love them BOTH! Thx SO MUCH for sharing these with us! (I think I’m gonna get the sleeveless, in ❤️)!

  2. Love these on you! Didn’t know they even had had dresses.

  3. You look lovely in both dresses. I would opt for the black dress, but I do like the red one just as much. How do you choose? I guess I’ll just get both. Fingers cross that I look as gorgeous as you do.

  4. Loving both dresses! I have a similar fit and flare sleeveless dress in orchid/lavender -but I love the red dress. I also just bought a black dress from Talbot’s which is a version of the black dress you showed. Thank you so much for the inspiration outfits, and the red dress is going into my cart to think about. Have a blessed week!

  5. If the 3/4 sleeve dress were a midi length it would be my idea of the perfect dress. But both are cute dresses for someone with nice legs, and they look great on you!

  6. I like the 3/4 sleeve dress best. Both are lovely. I so agree they hang well. I think in my climate and comfort level the one with sleeves would get more wear in my closet. I am glad you brought this brand to my attention. I didn’t even know spans had dresses.

  7. I love that 3/4 sleeve dress, it looks like a perfect go-to dress for church events!

Both dresses look great, but just let me say this, the black dress looks fabulous on you!

  9. I love dresses! Keep the posts coming! I’ve loved your dress ideas, recently. I wear a dress or skirt to Church every week and occasionally to other things! I ordered a dress last week from one of your ideas and it came yesterday and I love it! Thanks Tania!

  10. Holy cow! A Spanx dress! Now, this is a game changer. I like the A-line one best because it has sleeves. As I have gotten older, I don’t like to show my arms as much.

    1. I agree with you that’s how I feel too
