SHOULD I CHOOSE DARK OR LIGHT JEANS
Today as I was picking out my outfit, I found myself thinking, “should I wear dark or light jeans.” I figured if I was asking myself this question, that you might also be. So, we will talk about that in this post. Before we get started, I have to tell you about the conversation that I had with my sister yesterday. It left me laughing, although I don’t think she was as amused.
I have recently sweet-talked her into helping me with some technical issues on the blog. She is a woman of many talents, and most of them are ones that I suck at. She is fantastic at marketing, has a great understanding of analytics, is a wonderful photographer, good at IT, and an accomplished and published author.
I gave her my login information to my analytics, etc., so that she could look at the data and figure out which stores, styles, etc., that all of you prefer. Here is where it all went wrong. She calls me and says, “I see that your ladies love this store and this brand, and I can see how many times they have clicked on this item. But, what I don’t see is any links to MY books.” Lol! Whoops! Okay, gurls, you have to get me out of the dog house with my sister. Here are the links to her two books, and I promise you that you will find them easy to read (you won’t want to put them down) and entertaining. I admit that Hope In The Holler is my favorite, but Last In A Long Line of Rebels is great also.
Honestly, I was shocked when I read her first book, I had no idea that she could write as she does, and I was blown away. I am very proud of her and all that she has accomplished. (I am not saying all of this to kiss up to her) Lol! BTW, if you are reading this, Sister, I am considering this a “sponsored” post, and will be taking that amount off of what I owe you. 😝
Every outfit that I wear starts with one item, and then I build upon that one thing. Today’s look started with this striped sweater with the Bateau neckline. This lightweight sweater is perfect for spring, and it will be great for layering with a jacket or cardigan. I like the higher sides and the longer length in the front and back. This casual sweater can also be dressed up for a dressier look, but I liked the laid back look for a casual Saturday style.
The distribution of the stripes on the sweater is what caught my eye. The closer stripes will help enhance the bust area, which I need, and the stripes that are farther apart won’t enhance the tummy region.
Here is the view from the back so that you can see how far down the sweater goes. I am wearing a size 1 in this sweater, and it fits me great, and I have plenty of room in it. You can wear this sweater with pants, jeans, skirts, and leggings. You might want to add a longer cardigan to cover your backside if you choose to wear it with leggings.
I wanted a casual, laid back look for my Saturday style, so I went with the lighter wash jean. Light wash jeans are usually more relaxed and casual looking than darker washed jeans. But, when I was considering this outfit, I kept asking myself which color should I choose, dark or light?
Since the faux-suede jacket is a rich dark navy, I thought the light wash would make the jacket stand out more. But, I wasn’t sure that I would like the jeans’ casual style with the jacket. So, I did what I always do when I am undecided… I took photos with both pairs of jeans. This pair in the light wash is all sold out except for the smallest size, but the medium wash is in stock, and here is that link. I will link to similar light wash jeans for you.
The darker wash jeans usually look dressier and more polished than the light wash jeans. The pair that I am wearing today is a medium to a medium/dark wash, so they could go toward the dressy or casual side. I can’t remember what pair of jeans I have on even though I only took these photos a couple of days ago. I know they were from Chico’s, but that is as much as I can recall. Since they were from Chico’s, I know that I would be wearing a size .5 even though I wear a size 10 from other retailers. Here are a few pairs of jeans that would give you the same look.
This is a close up look at the jacket and the buttons. Also, you can see the jewelry that I added to the look. I am wearing the AVI gold tone large hoop earrings, the Maggie filigree bangle bracelet, and the Fallyn cuff bracelet. The necklaces are the rhinestone cross necklace and the Sophee small heart necklace I have been wearing lately.
You are going to love this faux-suede classic jacket. The jacket’s classic design is what caught my attention, but it is the softness of the faux-suede material that I am loving. The sheen of the faux-suede is very luxurious, and it looks rich. This is a lightweight jacket that will be perfect for the spring weather that will be here before you know it. I think that this jacket runs true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 1. BTW, this jacket is machine washable, so that is another added perk.
These Steve Madden, chain bone croc mules are super cute and will be great for spring and summer. I know that most of you are thinking, “it is 20 degrees outside, I don’t need these shoes.” I understand and completely agree with you. However, it will not always be 20 degrees outside, and these shoes will not be available once spring rolls around. In fact, this exact pair is almost sold out already, and it is still January. So, I am going to link to a few others that look similar for you.
I threw on the On Cloud X training shoes that I bought the other day for my casual and relaxed look. Someone told me years ago that they accomplished so much more during the day when they wear sneakers in the house instead of house slippers. I am wearing a size 9 in these shoes, and they fit me great. I am going to try the sneaker in the house tip and see if it works.

With this look, the lighter works better to me. I like the contrast between the darker jacket and lighter jeans for a casual look.
I love the lighter wash for
Saturday’s! When are you going to show your sisters apple shape? Would love to see her in the same outfits as you,….but how an Apple should wear things….
Dark! No rips!!
I like the darker wash. 🙂
I decided to sign up for the R&F . Looking forward to seeing if I can tell a difference in my skin. Your before and after photos showed a substantial difference and, while I am comfortable with my appearance , sometimes those lines jump out at me more than others, lol. Cute outfit today!
Wow! That’s a tough choice! I like the light ones better and I thought I wouldn’t!
I like the darker wash better. I was then trying to put it into words why and the main thing is I like the darker wash being closer in color to the stripe color. I also like that the darker wash you choose is not the same color as the coat.
I too love having a sister! I just called her the other day to tell her of a sale on jewelry that would make me a good birthday present. And she got all excited with me as we shopped online over the phone together and we ended up buying each other a bracelet for each of our birthdays! What a fun memory now every time I wear my bracelet.
I want to say that you rock these outfits. In fact, yes – fact, you make the clothes look better than the advertisers’ photos! I love your style.
Dark wash
For casual look I like the lighter color jeans and tennis shoes. Both look great though. Casual is more my style.
Definitely like the dark wash with the sweater.
I prefer the darker jeans with the sneakers. I also prefer the faded jeans with a dressier look and dressier shoes. I’m not a fan of the jacket and shirt combo because of wear it stops on you. I’m sorry it just doesn’t look slimming and for me I want that slimming look, which can be achieved in faded jeans too:) Have a wonderful week and thank you so much for all the try- on that you do!
Where:) oops.
I love that pic at the end of your post that shows your hair and beautiful skin & eyelashes! Very flattering! And just so your sister knows, I remember when everyone of your posts always mentioned and linked to her books!
I’ve read both of your sister’s books and really enjoyed them!
Nancy, I read your message to my sister. Thank you so much!!!
Love your style and your writing style! Dont know how you think things up every day! Trying to stay warm in Boston!! Dianna
Lol! If you think that my writing is good, then you are going to love my sister’s. She is actually GREAT!
Love the darker jeans, more slenderizing and practical especially for a klutz like me. LOL I did get a chuckle out of your comment about the stripes enhancing the bust. I remember your post on bras and trust me you have a heck of a lot more up top than I ever had
I think that darker jeans are slenderizing too.
Sisters are a blessing. I am lucky enough to have five of them. Each with their own style and talents. Dark jeans over light for me. Light ones sit in the drawer most of the time.
I only have one sister, but she is a delight.
I like the darker wash.
Love the sweater.
Have a good weekend.
I hope that you have a good weekend also.
Love the lighter denim with this outfit! I discovered the Sketcher slip ons and they are my go-to house shoe now! I look forward to coming home and changing into them! Have a wonderful day!
My husband has become a Sketcher’s fan too!
I want to like the light wash but gravitate to darker washs. They are slimming, more versatile and just more flattering on me. You can pull off either though.
I will check out your sister’s books!
I love both of the washes, and I wear them for different reasons.
Love the light jeans and casual flair of the outfit. Now days we are sticking close to home so more outfits like this are perfect.
I am glad that you liked the casual style.
I like the darker wash. I always think light washed jeans are more for spring and summer.
I love both washes, I just think that the lighter is more casual.
