SHOULD A WOMAN OVER 40 WEAR RUFFLES

Do you remember when I had the giveaway for a pair of Lilly Pulitzer sunglasses? Here is the post for that giveaway which had a gorgeous blazer featured. I love those sunglasses, and I first got that pair myself back in the spring of 2019. My Energizer Bunny Friend had an incentive to earn these glasses, and I of course had to have them. If you know me at all, then you know that I love incentives and challenges. I call them dangling carrots since that is how you get a horse or mule to walk. Did I just call myself a mule???

Joe calls items like these, “trinkets,” and he laughs at how hard I will work to earn these trinkets. He forgets that two of those trinkets that I earned were trips to Cancun and to Los Cabos! Anyway, I earned the sunglasses and fell in love with them. I wore them everywhere I went until I lost them. I search everywhere for the glasses, and I asked everyone that I knew if they had seen them. I finally gave up looking for them and figured that I had lost them for good.

What is up with me loving ruffles?!? I have NEVER been a fan of ruffles. It didn’t matter if the ruffles were big or small, I hated them all. But, a switch seems to have flipped, and I am finding myself ordering top after top with ruffles. I still prefer the smaller style of ruffle, but I find myself occasionally looking at an over-the-top ruffled blouse. This cute 100% polyester top is from Ann Taylor Factory, and it can easily be dressed up or down. I can wear this sleeveless top under a blazer or cardigan for a dressy look, or wear it with jeans or capris for a casual style. I love versatility when it comes to my clothing. I am wearing a medium and it fits me perfectly! HERE is the link to the blouse.

The AVI hoop earrings (HERE) are a pair that I loved so much that I got them in silver and in gold. They are large, but not as heavy as they look. The Reid long necklace (HERE) with the Ivory Mother of Pearl Pendant and the Rue long necklace (HERE) makes quite a statement. Gold looks great against the dark blue, but silver looks good against blue also. I also added the Fallyn cuff bracelet (HERE) and the Maggie bangle bracelet (HERE) for a little arm candy.

Remember me telling you about me taking photos with my pants on backward? That would be these pants!!! Can you tell that they are on wrong? Well, I couldn’t either until I saw that the pockets in the front and back were a little different. These are the So Slimming Brigitte Button-Hem Ankle Pants from Chicos. I am wearing a sand color, but I also own this pant in navy and black. I like that they are a pull-on style and that they fit so nicely. With Chicos, I have found that I need to size down in pants, especially if they are stretchy like these. I usually wear a size 10, which is a size 1.5 in Chico sizes. But, when the pants are stretchy, I wear a size .05 which is a size 6. While I appreciate the ego boost, I know that I am still a size 10 in real life. Lol!!! HERE is the link to the pants.
These gladiator-style sandals have been the “IT” style of the year. The spikes sure give these sandals a modern edge, and the neutral color makes them easy to wear with anything. I wasn’t sure that I would wear spikes, but I am adjusting to them nicely. How many of you have seen the Valentino shoes with spikes? Those things are FANCY!!! HERE is the link to the sandals, and I am wearing my usual size 9 in them.

I am going to apologize right now. I’ve been shopping at Kendra Scott again, and for those of you who are loving your KS items, get ready to get some more. Lol! I just got these three items, and they are gorgeous!!!

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

I really like your outfit and your new KS jewelry. He question I have is should a 69 yr old woman wear ruffles?
I loved the ruffles so much, that I just bought 2 shirts with ruffles, and 2 sweaters to go with them. I usually don’t buy from Ann Taylor, but the cost was something I couldn’t say no to!! 😉 Thanks for the “tip”!!
I love your pants, Tanya! They would fit me perfectly,…I’m an apple shape with really thin legs and a chest of 38G!
I wish I had just half of your creativity and style. Yes, I can put outfits together by coping a picture but you really have a knack. Even to your hairstyle. Just great !
I need staple ideas please just to start.
Thanks !
Lisa
I love that top and it looks great on you.
I love ruffles at our age! They can be subtle or over the top but so much fun!
I love the shirt and outfit. I like a little ruffles, not the big ones, they make pretty subtle statement.
I decided a long time ago to wear whatever I liked and leave elegance to the old ladies. I’m only 77 and when I get old I may dress in a more refined way.
I like those shoes….a lot. The blouse is cute but sleeveless yadayadayada. ?
This outfit looks great on you. I don’t wear ruffles. I have a larger bust, so I try to downplay that part of my body. I tend to wear v-neck or scoop neck.
No one should have “rules” of what someone can and cannot wear (as long as the clothes are tasteful.) Everyone should wear what feels good and accentuates our best parts. Enjoy! Life is too short to follow arbitrary rules.
Have a great weekend!
I love navy and tan together, it is a classic combination. I love the ruffles. I think it makes it just a touch dressier, but still casual. 🙂
