Ruggable Rugs Review: Are They Worth It? My Honest Take and Favorite Picks

I have owned enough rugs over the years to know how the story usually ends. They look beautiful when they arrive, but eventually someone tracks in dirt, something gets spilled, or a dog decides the middle of the rug is the perfect place to stretch out.

Before long, the rug becomes too dirty to ignore and too aggravating to clean. That is one of the main reasons I decided to try Ruggable.

I now own several Ruggable rugs and doormats, and I have also helped my mom and daughter choose styles for their homes. After seeing different colors, sizes, and patterns in real rooms, I have a much better idea of what Ruggable does well and what you should know before ordering.

In this honest Ruggable rugs review, I’m sharing what I like about the washable rug system, what I would consider before buying, and the styles my family and I chose.

Why I Decided to Try a Washable Rug

Traditional rugs are lovely until real life gets involved.

One spill, muddy shoes, crumbs from the grandkids, or a dog who refuses to wipe her paws, and suddenly you are staring at a stain and wondering how much it will cost to have the rug professionally cleaned.

That is the biggest appeal of Ruggable for me. The rugs are made to be washed at home, so a spill does not feel like a household emergency.

I like having the option to wash a rug instead of spot-cleaning it repeatedly and hoping no one notices the mark in the middle. For homes with pets, grandchildren, frequent visitors, or simply a lot of daily activity, being able to clean the entire rug is a practical benefit.

The Bird & Pomegranate Soft Black Rug is a beautiful example of a pattern that can handle an active room. The darker background and detailed print give it character, but they can also help disguise the occasional crumb or bit of dirt between cleanings.

How the Ruggable Rug System Works

Ruggable offers washable rugs in different constructions, so it is worth paying attention to the rug system before you place your order.

The classic Ruggable setup has two pieces. A nonslip rug pad stays on the floor, and a lighter rug cover attaches to the top. When the rug needs to be cleaned, the cover comes off the pad and goes into the washing machine.

Ruggable also offers all-in-one washable rugs with the backing built in, so there is no separate cover to line up with a rug pad. That may appeal to someone (like me) who wants fewer steps when placing the rug.

The best option depends on the room, the rug size, and the washing machine you have at home. A large rug is naturally going to require more washer capacity than a runner or doormat, so I would check the size recommendations before ordering.

One thing I appreciate about the Ruggable rugs I have used is their low profile. They do not create a thick bump in the room, doors can open over them more easily, and they are simple to vacuum.

They are not as thick or plush as a traditional wool rug, though. That is something you should know before buying, especially if you are choosing a rug for a bedroom or another room where softness is your main priority.

Entryway rugs take a beating. They catch dirt, leaves, wet shoes, and everything else people bring through the door. Being able to wash the top instead of replacing the whole thing makes a lot of sense to me.

Years ago, I might have talked myself out of a light rug before it ever made it into my cart. Now I know I at least have a fighting chance when someone walks across it with dirty shoes.

Are Ruggable Outdoor Rugs Worth Considering?

There are plenty of patterns that can add color and personality to an outdoor seating area. A rug can help define the space and make a porch or patio feel more like another room of the house.

I would still pay attention to the care instructions, the amount of sun the area receives, and the rug size. But for a porch or patio that gets regular use, being able to clean the rug is a major advantage.

Are Ruggable Rugs Good for Homes With Pets?

In my opinion, homes with pets are one of the strongest reasons to consider a washable rug.

Pets bring in dirt, shed hair, track across the room after a rainy trip outside, and occasionally have accidents. Even the sweetest dog in the world can be rough on a rug.

Lucy also has strong opinions about where she should nap, and those opinions usually involve whatever rug I just vacuumed.

The lower pile makes pet hair easier to vacuum than it is on some thick rugs, and being able to wash the rug gives me more peace of mind. I would still choose the pattern carefully. A darker, vintage-inspired, or multicolored design will usually be more forgiving than a very light rug with large areas of solid color.

My Honest Ruggable Rugs Review

After owning and helping my family choose several Ruggable styles, I understand why washable rugs have become so popular.

They are practical, easy to vacuum, available in a huge variety of patterns, and designed for households where people actually live. They are thinner than many traditional rugs, and larger covers may take some patience to place back on the pad. You also need to make sure your washing machine can handle the rug size you order.

For me, those trade-offs are worth it in busy rooms.

I like knowing that a spill, muddy footprint, or dirty paw does not mean the rug is ruined. I also appreciate being able to change certain covers and seasonal doormats without replacing the entire system.

Ruggable may not be the right choice for someone whose first priority is a thick, plush rug. But for pets, grandchildren, high-traffic areas, and everyday living, I think the washable design is worth considering.

Is Ruggable Worth the Price?

Ruggable rugs can seem expensive at first, especially when you compare them with lower-priced traditional rugs.

The value becomes clearer when you think about professional cleaning, stain treatments, and how often a heavily used rug may need to be replaced.

For me, Ruggable is most worth the price in rooms where spills, dirt, pets, or heavy foot traffic are likely. Kitchens, family rooms, dining areas, hallways, laundry rooms, entryways, and covered outdoor spaces are all places where washability can make a meaningful difference.

I would be less likely to choose the thinnest style for a room where plushness is my first priority. But for a room that is used every day, the ability to wash the rug is a benefit I genuinely appreciate.

One Last Thing

A rug is one of the largest pieces in a room, so it needs to be pretty. But it also needs to work with the way you live.

I have reached the stage where I do not want anything in my house that makes me nervous every time someone walks near it carrying a drink. A washable rug gives me one less thing to worry about, and that alone makes it a welcome addition to my home.
