50 IS NOT OLD | REAL AND HONESTWhen I first started this blog I never envisioned that anyone would ever find it much less actually follow me. I really thought in the back of my mind that it would serve as a lookbook. I would be able to take pictures of my outfits and rate them on how well I liked them. I would have a visual reference for outfits I wanted to replicate and for “those” others that would never see the light of day again.50 IS NOT OLD | REAL AND HONESTGuess which category this outfit would be in. This would go in the never to be replicated again pile!!! Some of the first comments I received when I first started were things like “your a real person.” I didn’t understand what that meant at first because all the bloggers are “real” people. Then it finally dawned on me what you were saying, you were saying that I am normal, I make mistakes, I am not a Stepford Wife. You would be right, I work every day so the outfits you see me in are the ones I wore to work that day. I don’t have the luxury of taking my pictures and then editing them right then. I edit them when I get home and there are many times when I wish I had a re-do. However, it is too late by then and I have a post to write. You will occasionally get a sour note if you follow my blog but then you probably are already aware of that. Hahaha 50 IS NOT OLD | REAL AND HONESTI’ll just go ahead and jump into what I don’t like about this outfit. I don’t like the sweater! In fact, I didn’t like the sweater when I had it on so I have no idea why I didn’t change it then. I must have just been stubborn. I don’t like the color and I don’t like the band at the bottom. But none of that matters now because I wore the stupid thing. I am not even going to tell you where you can buy one like it. Lol!50 IS NOT OLD | REAL AND HONESTI do like the infinity scarf but I didn’t notice that I didn’t have it pulled together good. I don’t like the separation between the two layers so that you can see the sweater. This scarf in a dark burgundy and it has little puckers all over it. I bought the scarf last year at Cato’s but here are some that are similar and not one of them is over 14.00.

50 IS NOT OLD | REAL AND HONESTThe camel colored pants are Old Navy Pixie pants. These are the longer length version but it wouldn’t matter since I paired them with my knee boots. I wear cropped pants and ankle pants with knee boots, that way I get more wear out of my purchases.

50 IS NOT OLD | REAL AND HONESTI bought my quilted vest last year from a little boutique up the road. I looked back to where I wore the vest last year (here) and was shocked when I read that it had a hood that I had detached. What? I didn’t even remember that it had a hood. Lol! The vest is fur lined, which I love, and that helps to keep you warm. The olive color and the leather accents are really in style right now.

50 IS NOT OLD | REAL AND HONESTI am thankful that you have chosen to follow me on my blog journey. I may not always “hit it out of the park” but I will always show you affordable fashions that you can replicate for yourself. I am a “real” person and I will show you the good, the bad, and the ugly. Haha! At least you know I am honest.

  1. Love this post Tania – I think this must be normal that we have different types of days. I have days I seriously call bad taste days when I don’t seem to pull together a nice outfit no matter how hard I try.

Anyhow today on my blog I have a military jacket that would look awesome with your scarf 😉 Haven’t seen you wear a military jacket yet 😉 Please do let me know if you like it.

    Have a fabulous day,
    xx Yvonne

You make me smile Tania ? there is a lot to like about your outfit you don’t usually wear shades of the same palette so maybe that’s putting you off ? but you always look lovely wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas and peaceful New Year ??⛄?

  3. Good morning, Tania. I always look forward to your blog. I have a question: what hair products do you use for volume and root lift? I do love your cut and color. Hope you have a Merry Christmas.

    • Tania Reply

Jerrie, I don’t use ANY products on my hair. I only use Pureology Shampoo and Conditioner on my hair. I style and spray with Big Sexy Hairspray. That’s it, I just have a LOT of hair. Haha

  4. Doreen Bednarski Reply

Wow Tania, you are highly critical today. You made me “study” your outfit. First off, I immediately loved your scarf. The break in it is fine, shows the contrast of colors. The sweater is fine, maybe you just don’t like it with this outfit. I like the vest a lot but I do feel the scarf hides it. So remove it, try another sweater and see what you think. Your smile and dynamic personality hide any blips YOU see. You are a real person and that is why all of these ladies look for your blog each morning and are lost without it! So have a wonderful day knowing you have a billion friends!

    • Tania Reply

BILLION!!! Wow, that is a lot. Haha I do believe in showing you my boo boo’s, that is part of life.

  5. I’ve been followed you for almost a year now and I think this is my first comment. I really enjoy reading your daily post (probably Sunday’s the most) and actually have stopped reading a few other bloggers I followed in the past. Why? Because they were not REAL enough. I’m a mostly stay at home mom with a part time job that allows me to basically dress like a SAHM! I have found that your blog has given me real clothes I can find, wear and probably most importantly I can afford! You honestly seem just like someone who would be my friend.

I wish you a very merry Christmas!

    • Tania Reply

Thank you Maureen, for taking the time to comment. I have followed many blogs in the past and I didn’t comment that often either. Unfortunately, you will find that I am very REAL. I have my good points and my bad points. I am human 🙂

  6. Merry Christmas Tania. I look forward to your posts. Your styles are down to earth and everyone gives me ideas, even at 70.

  7. Glenda Braun Reply

I think it is the colors that are putting you out of wack!!
    You look pretty anyway.

  8. Actually I like that monochromatic look ?. It’s very slimming and gives you a long unbroken line. It’s always good to try new looks even if you are unsure of them…Keep it up! So enjoy my cup of joe and your blog every morning!!!

  9. Hi Tania, this is one of my favorite outfits! The colors are great, and the sweater is perfect because it’s neutral so it allows the rest of the pieces to pop. I love the color combination, and your scarf is positioned neater than the models! Thank you for all of your inspiration and honesty (and I love the part about forgetting the vest had a hood, typical occurrence for me!) Merry Christmas!

  10. Merry Christmas Tania! Just wanted to say thank you. I enjoy your posts. I love, love, love the vest. You are so real and relate-able.

  11. Anne Smith Reply

I enjoy your blog and most of your color combinations – especially if the pieces are in the same warm/cool family -tonally pleasing I know that the new trend is mixing it up…but it’s something that I think throws off the quest for a cohesive look and sometimes you just can’t put your finger on it. In this outfit…it was the 5-7 colors of different warm/cool tones that threw me– the purse/scarf with the different burgundy/purples and the cool toned sweater/jewelry with the multiple warm beige colors and the olive. JMHO and not a criticism of you or your blog.

  12. I like the individual pieces of the outfit and actually think it’s all fine together. The sweater is not a color I’m used to seeing you wear. I love it when you wear bright colors? Don’t be hard on yourself, you do way better than the rest of us!

  13. Well, what I do like about your blog is that you are a ‘real’ person – not a professional model, but one who goes to work, comes home, works some more and yet makes time to do ‘fun stuff’ with her husband, grandkids, kids and friends. You are one busy gal, but then most of us working moms are, and that’s what appeals to many of us – we just don’t post what we wear to work or school every day, but take inspiration from what YOU pull out of the closet and put together. And if the outfit isn’t a ‘win’, well, some of ours are not either, and that’s OK. I look forward to your daily postings as well as your mini-lesson on Sunday. Keep up the good work. You are appreciated by many !

  14. I agree with Donna and Deb. I love the monochromatic look and the combination of the camel with the burgundy accents. I do understand what you mean about the sweater, though. I am not a fan of that sweater/sweatshirt style that has the band across the hips. It creates a horizontal line at a place on the body where I don’t need to draw attention, lol! You are such a breath of fresh air in the fashion blog world, Tania. I’m so glad I found you. Please keep doing what you are doing. I need to know how to put together a nice outfit affordably, maybe using things I may already have in my closet, not from what’s on sale at Nordstrom this week, unless it’s an occasional splurge. Thanks for keeping it real. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  15. I’m so glad I found your blog. You have given me so many idea’s. I am seventy five and live in a small town so I haven’t had the nerve to try boots. I would like to know where you keep all your clothes. That’s a lot of clothes in one year.

  16. I’m so glad to have found your blog, Tania, because you are such a breath of fresh air. Your posts are always so much fun to read and you always look great!! Love your style and personality!

  17. So many other ladies have said what I think: you give us an enjoyable read and not every outfit is a winner. So what! No one cares, we love you being honest! Merry Christmas sweet Tania!

  18. You did a blog on how to pose for pictures. Will you please repeat that?

  19. I have to admit, my first thought was the sweater also, before I even started to read your post…lol…you know what to do with that sweater now…love your vest and everything else! Merry Christmas to you and your family! ?

  20. Tania, I wouldn’t care if you posted a pic of you in your bathrobe and hair curlers….. I would still love it! You inspire me every day! I look forward each morning to checking in with your page and seeing what cute outfit you have put together. You are an awesome teacher!

Thankyou love your honesty !! Merry Christmas from manitoba Canada

Monochromatic from head to toe: I’m seeing all the tones from the colors of your hair, excluding the burgundy scarf & handbag!! Not crazy about the sweater either; think it should be longer than the vest for better proportion, IMHO. Love your blog and look forward to it every day with all the comments you make as a “real” person.

  23. I have to admit, when I first looked at your outfit I thought it was a sweatshirt. My second thought was, wow, she can even make a sweatshirt look stylish! I think you look great!

  24. You make me smile every single day. I love all of your outfit posts but it’s the fact that you are so real (and make me smile!) that brings me back daily. You are a blessing to all of your followers and we all love you! Merry Christmas!

  25. Beth Keehne Reply

I look forward to your posts each day! You do a great job styling your outfits AND have such a sense of humor about yourself, that when you do feel like your outfit “misses the mark” – (which is rare in my opinion) you call yourself out on it. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and look forward to the style tips coming in 2017!!

I love your blog. It makes me laugh every day. Always look forward to reading it and seeing what you styled. 🙂

  27. You’re so cute — I love what you share…..and sometimes I too, hit it right and hit it wrong. Yesterday I was dressed like an 80 year old woman! Oh well. Thanks for sharing every day! Have an awesome Christmas!

  28. Good morning Tania – I agree with Doreen’s comments you can make just about every outfit work. Love you blog – it’s makes me feel like I can pull it together. I remember a post you did where you describe how to pose for pictures.. (my husband even remember me talking about it) Do you remember which post it was? I’ve enjoyed reading your older post but I can’t find the one I’m looking for. Help please 🙂 Merry Christmas

But you were having a great hair day so that cancels out a bad outfit!!! Have a Merry Christmas! PS- I am loving the Lash Boost!

Tania, thank you for being you.. I appreciate your honesty and humor. I enjoy your blog, I have one request….is there a way that you could show a picture with the outfit of the day, with the email introduction? Just a teaser ? Oh and by the way you are right about the sweater, maybe too much of the same color? I too don’t like a band at the bottom of a sweater but I thought is was because (for me) it highlighted my thick midsection. That is obviously not your problem!! Hope you have a joyous Christmas!!!

    • Tania Reply

If I knew how I would Jamie. I need to ask if my version allows that.

  31. I love your honesty. I do that too…wear an outfit combination that I determine will never be put together again. You are brave enough to share them with all of us, so then we feel normal.

Many blessings for you this Christmas. Praying for you and your sweet family.

  32. Love the outfit…minus the sweater:) I really think it’s the color close to your face that is “off”. I, also, do not look good in that color near my face!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  33. Omg! I love your Blog! Recovering from second round of cancer and bilateral masectomy I discovered it. It was one of those “please Dear Load, let me survive this” days. You realistic sence of style and refreshing comments got me through some of my most difficult of Days! Please don’t be so critical of yourself. We never know whose life we impact. You ROCK Woman!………..DeeMarie

    • Tania Reply

Oh my goodness, DeeMarie. You have no idea how much that means to me. Big tears of joy are in my eyes. I guess we are always more critical of ourselves than we are of others. I hope you are doing well and have a Merry Christmas.

I think you always look like a doll. I like some outfits better than others, but who doesn’t? You are down to earth and I find it so fun to read your blog every morning. I don’t always see it on the weekend, but most of the time I do. It’s ok to not like your outfits everyday, that’s how we know you are for real.

  35. Susan from North Carolina Reply

Hi Tania – i recently found your blog and I have enjoyed spending time with you. You are very relatable and I love how you express your creatively through fashion. I try to do the same and always enjoy seeing and sharing new style ideas and color combinations. You are so right that we have to have a sense of humor about life. Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season -enjoy your family time.

  36. Hi Tania!!
I’m continuing to enjoy your blog. I look forward to your smart, witty words and your awesome sense of fashion!
One day I’d love to start one myself ?
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year my name twin! ?⛄️?

  37. I don’t think I consider you a “real person” because you make mistakes. I think it is because most of your outfits are appropriate for my lifestyle and you enjoy looking for bargains. I also like that you are active with the community and your family and friends. I am jealous you have time to take a picture every day. I am always running out the door, trying not to be late! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and look forward to following you in the New Year.

    • Tania Reply

Kandi, I am always running late too. I have my camera on a tripod beside the door and I grab it as I go out. I set the timer and it takes 5 pictures at a time. I take 10 from a distance and 10 closer ones. I cross my fingers that I will be able to use one or two and head off to work. When I get home and look at the pictures I am usually in for a surprise. Lol!

  38. I consider you a “real” blogger and what I mean by that is honest and genuine. You disclose the fact you may get a commission from links to products. You don’t come across as someone who only cares about profiting from her readers. You come across to me as relatable and yes, you help us realize being fashionable is possible regardless of age or income. So bravo! Keep it coming.

  39. Dont we all have those days? Most of us just don’t have ours posted on the internet!

  40. Joanne Scantlebury Reply

Hey Tania, I like what your wearing, and that scarf is fabulous.
I have less misses with my outfits since I’ve been following your blog and look forward to next year.
Have a lovely cold Christmas and we’ll swelter here in ours in Queensland.

    • Tania Reply

Thanks, Joanne! I hope to one day travel to Queensland, but dang, that is a long trip!

  41. Your honesty is part of your charm! I enjoy your blog and look forward to it every morning…

  42. I love seeing what works and what doesn’t work. When I go back and look at my blog and my Instagram feed, I sometimes have a “what was I thinking” reaction? But it acts, as you say, as kind of a fashion “sounding board” that lets me know what does and doesn’t work for me. I think you look fine in this outfit but it’s how you feel about it that matters! I’m in awe that you are able to post almost every day. I can’t seem to get it together, and I don’t go out to a job everyday!

  43. Robin Osborne Reply

Your scarf really brings out your blue eyes and is a nice contrast with your hair. I noticed that a purple outfit from a while back also brought out your eyes. Wish I knew how to make that happen for brown hair and brownish eyes. (My mother called our eye color “sh** muckally*not sure if that is a word* dun”. Others have mentioned how it is nice to see someone styling affordable clothes. I appreciate that as well, Merry Christmas!

I would love to hear from YOU!
