Faith Over Fear: Finding Peace in Life’s Storms
Fear Is Universal
The Bible is full of commandments, and if I’m being honest, I’ve broken most of them at some point. But there’s one commandment that I find especially challenging to follow. It’s not one of the “Top Ten,” but it’s repeated over and over throughout Scripture:
“Do not fear.”
When you search for this phrase in the Bible, you’ll find it in various forms: Fear not. Do not be afraid. Do not fear. No matter how it’s worded, the message is clear—and yet it’s not always easy to follow.
The truth is, the world can be a scary place. From everyday worries to life’s unexpected storms, fear has a way of creeping into our hearts. But God didn’t tell us not to fear because He doesn’t understand; He told us not to fear because He knows we need His help to overcome it.
Faith Between You and Fear
One Sunday, my preacher said something that struck me deeply:
“We need to put faith between us and fear.”
Think about that for a moment. When we let faith stand between us and whatever we’re afraid of, it changes our perspective. Faith reminds us that God is in control and that He is bigger than whatever we’re facing.
I started to picture this in my mind: the Lord standing between me and my fear, shielding me, protecting me, and reminding me that nothing is beyond His power. When you think about it that way, what is there to fear?
When the Storms of Life Hit
A few years ago, I had a moment where fear nearly got the better of me. Joe and I were flying to Tennessee, and the flight was rough. Turbulence isn’t something I handle well on the best of days, but flying through the mountains with strong winds made it downright terrifying.
As the plane bounced and rocked, I felt my anxiety rise. That’s when I started envisioning the Lord between me and my fear. It helped calm me, but I was still on edge. Then I remembered the story of the disciples caught in a storm:
Mark 4:39 (NKJV):
39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
I began repeating those words in my mind: Peace, be still. Over and over, I prayed for calm—both in the skies and in my heart. And then something incredible happened. The winds began to die down. Within minutes, the turbulence stopped, and the rest of the flight was smooth.
Some might chalk that up to coincidence, but I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe in a God who hears us, who cares about even the smallest details of our lives, and who intervenes on our behalf.
Choosing Faith Over Fear
The truth is, the world will always have its storms, and fear will always try to find its way into our hearts. But we have a choice. We can let fear take over, or we can let faith stand in the gap.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV):
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”
God doesn’t want us to live in fear. He wants us to trust Him, to let His peace fill our hearts, and to remember that He is always in control.
So the next time fear starts to creep in, remember this:
- Put faith between you and your fear.
- Call on the Lord, and let His presence calm your heart.
- Speak the words of Jesus: Peace, be still.
The storms may not always calm instantly, but the peace of God will guard your heart in the midst of them.
To GOD Goes The Glory
Have A Blessed Day
Let’s End With a Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us not to fear and for being with us in every storm we face. Lord, help us to put our faith in You when fear tries to take over. Stand between us and the things that make us anxious, and speak peace over our hearts. Teach us to trust You more, to rely on Your power, and to find comfort in Your presence. We ask for Your protection, guidance, and peace as we navigate life’s challenges. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Beautiful, I wrote other down so that I can continue as my prayers. Thank you
Thank you for the beautiful reminder.
I absolutely love the image of my God between me and my fear. I will use this visual the next time fear overtakes my thoughts while also repeating Peace, be still.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank You for this reminder! First time in 20 years I stayed home and let fear get the best of me! I’m always saying just show up because how can God work thru these problems if you’re not there. My husband battling depression, health issues and so much stress with our business.
Tough year 2024. I needed this today!
I will remember these verses.
Have a blessed Day!
Brenda, 2025 can be a year of reset. Hopefully everything will look better in the coming year.
Thank you again for your words of wisdom and encouragement.
Thank you for this reminder. I know when I pray to the Lord, I feel a calmness come over me. It’s a wonderful feeling.
Have a blessed day.
Hi Tania,
I saw that “Kassy” won the drawing on January 12th. Not sure if I’m the Kassy….
If I am, my Amazon email is different from my correspondence email so I added a new Amazon account under that.
Thank you and enjoy the snow!
Kathy aka Kassy
YES, you are the winner. I need you to reply to the email that I sent you. It will come from tania@50isnotold.com and have the subject, Winner!!!

Thank you for sharing these words! I needed this reminder.
Amen!!!!!
Hi Tania, I enjoy reading your prayers on Sundays.Surrendering to Jesus is the path to our peace.
Just what I needed to read today. I have been overtaken with fear with a surgery scheduled for Friday. Anxiety and fear can really just take over. So today I trust in God and pray for his peace to get me through. I thank you for your prayer.
Jan, all you can do it pray. Pray for your surgeon and nurses, pray for a successful surgery and healing, and pray that the Lord is with you. Then, believe that He is in control.
Beautiful Tania…I needed that today!
Thank you Tania. I always enjoy your Sunday post. I can always relate to them and this one today was one I needed. Bless you for sharing your faith with us . Hope you are having a beautiful day.
Thank you for a precious reminder that our peace comes from putting on trust in God
Amen! Love your posts, especially on Sunday.
Wonderful article! Thank you!
I love this. ❤️
Thanks for sharing this beautiful truth about being fearful. ‘Peace be still’ is a reminder of The Lord’s Gracious direction in our lives.
Thank you. Your words are powerful reminders. Trust in the Lord’s guiding light. I am traveling through unknown waters with my husband’s health and struggle to release. Amen.
I too am in the same situation with my husband’s recent cancer diagnosis. Fear keeps creeping in and it’s so hard. I’m really trying to put faith over my fear. Thanks Tania for your encouragement with this post.
Karen, when a family member’s health is threatened, fear is always there. We have to trust the Lord, especially in times like these.
Welcome reminder. Thank you.
What an awesome message today. Thank you Tania! Months ago, Traci from Beneath My Heart shared a story about what her husband said to her, early in their marriage, because she is a worrier. He told her to “Stop telling yourself a story that hasn’t been written.” I think that goes hand in hand with your message. I am a big ‘what if’s’ woman, but I have been working on changing that since I heard Traci’s story.
Ginger, Joe is one that likes to “prepare” for the worst case scenario. I refuse to worry about something that hasn’t happened yet, and I’ll deal with it when “if” it happens. DON’T BORROW TROUBLE!
Perfect timing as my husband and I had a quick chat about this last night. I had a breast cancer tumor removed last April and the fear of recurrence can be overwhelming. Peace, be still! These 3 words are perfect and quick to help calm my mind.
Yvonne, I know the fear of your cancer returning is real. Keep on top of your scans, and pray, pray, pray. You do your part, and the rest is up to the Lord.
Thank you.
Love the mind picture of God standing between me and my fear. That’s one I want to remember and “peace be still”. Great post — thank you.
Thank you for your wonderful prayer – for all we are going through here in So. Calif it will help us get through the days –
Thank you for these words today as I am facing a health issue. Trying to put faith over fear.
Thank you!!!
Thank you for your calming devotion. It is so easy to forget God is always there for us.
I enjoy your scripture and prayer posts the most. Thank you for the reminder that faith is greater than fear and God does care about even the littlest things that might be happening to us. He is our Father and His comfort is always available to us.
Love this story…I remember a similar incident in my own life flying to Memphis.
Thank you. This really hit home with me. As a widow in a new town I have been reluctant to attend church alone. This has shown me I can do it.
UGH! I feel your pain. It is so hard, especially if you are in introvert like me, to attend events by yourself.
Just what I needed to hear today.
Thank you🥰
Oh Tania, I needed this gentle reminder today. Thank you.
We’re going through a very difficult season in our house so this is such a God moment! Thank you Tania for being an open messenger that God speaks through each day.
Thank you Tania. Wonderful message. You are such a blessing to all of us the follow you. Fashion and Faith. Have a blessed Sunday and week ahead.
Thank you 😊
This is exactly what I need to hear! Thank you!
Such great words of wisdom. There’s nothing better than a woman’s prayers!! When we have entered uncertain times in our lives and then come out of them for the better, my husband will say- you were really praying about this one, huh? God listens to his children and loves them.
I certainly needed to be reminded whose in control.
I have let my fears over take me these last couple of years and God used you today to tell me that he is with me always! Peace Be still!
Thank you
Faith over fear is difficult but usually does give peace. Thanks for the reminder
Thank you for this message today. I needed to be reminded to not let fear take over put All our Faith in God!
Fear is one of my biggest challenges. I work on it daily. Thanks for the reminders.
You have a gift ~ thank you for sharing. It means more than you know. Peace be with you!
Thank you, Tania for this lesson today. I need to remember your words that we have a choice to let faith in. Have a beautiful Sunday!
Such true and precious thoughts today. Thank you for a clear reminder of our Father’s extravagant love and care. Happy Sunday!
Thankful for this message! I really needed the reminder. I was picturing the Sheild talked about in Ephesians, The Armour of God. Thank you for allowing God to use you to help me! I really needed this today
My comment is, fear and faith can’t occupy the same space. You can only think of one at a time. I choose faith.
I feel like fear runs my life..maybe not post this as it makes me sound a little crazy but your message is a good reminder to me though a huge challenge.
I pray every night for the safety and health of my family as well as all of us living into our late 80’s or nineties. I also pray for no car accidents as my adult children were both in them while living across the country – my daughter’s while we were in the middle of the ocean on a cruise. I’ve also added fires to my nightly prayer. My husband and I have a transatlantic cruise coming up where we fly to London and cruise back to Boston – I’m excited but afraid something will happen while we are in the middle of the ocean again. My adult kids are now both living at home which helps but I think about it almost daily so afraid of car accidents – we leave the end of March. I know we can’t not live life but I need to find my faith and belief because it is so time consuming and unhealthy living in fear. Thank you for listening. I’m saving this post and prayer.
There will always be accidents, fires, etc., and those are out of our control. I know we shouldn’t spend time worrying about things we can’t control, but we do.
Peace, Be Still. I love that!! I think I’ll keep that saying in my head now to draw upon during stressful and non-stressful times!
Thank you for this today….. i feel fear almost everyday as a widow facing life on my own and i needed the reminder to ask the Lord to stand between me and that fear. God Bless you.
That is such a hard one-but I do try!! Thanks for this message❤️
Great message Tania! Along the same lines as our Bible study yesterday which was, the key to overcoming fear is faith.
Coincidence that I heard this twice in two days…I think not 🙂.
Thank you Tania!
It isn’t! 🥰
Thank you for today’s post…it really hit home and was needed in the situation I am currently facing! May peace be with you always!
Thank you, Tania! Perfect topic for me to hear! My youngest son just headed back to college. And my oldest just graduated from college in December and taking a trip of a lifetime to Australia. Nervous Mom here!! I so needed to hear to put my fears in Gods hand. I’m going to keep this prayer and say it daily.
Bridgette, as parents, I think fear is always lurking around.
Thank you for your message. It is a good way to start the day off with God’s words of guidance.
Amen! What a beautiful message and reminder to trust in the Lord in all things!
Amen
Beautifully written 🙂
I appreciate the devotionals you include on Sundays. Each week I am reminded of something I’ve been holding on to. Thank you for the dedication you have to your website. You are blessing so many.
Great reminder. That prayer could be repeated daily.
This made me think of what my fears are .They maybe big to me but to God they are covered by him. I have to trust in him. i think im going to find that in my bible and highlight that. its a good reminder. Thank you Linda
I’m glad you liked God’s post.
Amen sister. I needed that. that was no coincidence on that plane. that was the hand of God. the Bible says make your request known to God and you made your request known and he answered your prayer. Amen
I absolutely love your posts! Especially Sunday! I am a fellow follower of Jesus and can so relate to a lot of what you say! Have a blessed day and keep those posts coming. I love how you take that platform you have to speak for Him!
Perfect. Thank you.
A much needed reminder for a current challenge. Perfect timing!
A “ Godcidence”. My husband and I believe He is surely in control and works in mysterious ways. Your devotional message’s timing is certainly one of them. I’ve been trying to leave my greatest fear and worry at the feet of Christ, only to run back and get it again. Putting Him between me and those fears is surely calming. So thankful for these words of guidance this morning. Peace be still❤️
I believe this, too.
Thank you, Tania. I needed to hear this today.
