OVER 50 AND FEELING COMFORTABLE WHILE WEARING SLEEVELESS TOPS

Y’all are in for a treat today! Today, I am linking up with three other bloggers, and we are all addressing sleeveless tops. Do they normally wear them? I guess that we will soon find out. These bloggers are the same ones that I do a live with each Friday on Instagram, and last week we talked about body shapes. It was interesting since each of us had different body shapes and are different heights.

Each of these bloggers has different styles and likes, so I love talking with them and hearing about the styles they prefer. Susan is really into color analysis, Deborah loves close-fitting clothing and dressier options, and Jennifer is probably the closest to my style, except that she wears a lot of neutrals. It is wonderful learning from each other, and I hope that you check out their blogs today.

I wonder if they would describe my style that they would say, “she loves colorful clothing?” It would definitely be a true statement. There are only a few colors that I shy away from, and I’ll find a way to incorporate them into my look through pants, shoes, or accessories.

About sleeveless clothing…we all know the reason that we don’t like wearing this option. Flabby, loose skin on our upper arms is the culprit and the reason that a lot of women opt for tops with sleeves. No one likes to see their skin swaying in the wind when we gesture with our hands. As we age, our skin gets loose and loses its elasticity. The heavier you are, the more likely you are to have excess body fat, contributing to sagging skin.

And, if that wasn’t bad enough, genetics also plays a role in flabby skin. Diet and exercise can help, but only to a certain extent. If your skin is extremely flabby because of excessive weight loss, unfortunately, there isn’t a lot you can do. I know many people undergo cosmetic procedures to have the excess skin removed, which can be costly.

So, I decided a long time ago to wear what I wanted, even sleeveless tops. And, yes, I have jiggly arms, but so what???

I have become a huge fan of the Travelers Collection from Chico’s. It’s not that I am doing a lot of traveling now, but I still love arriving at any place that I go in a wrinkle-free outfit. There is nothing worse than going out to eat, and as you step out of the car and look down, you are a wrinkled mess.

I LOVE the big, bold color and print on this tank top. I have to laugh at myself because the description said “reversible,” and I thought that it meant that the top would be a solid color on the inside. Instead, it meant that one side of the top is a v-neck and the other side is a scoop neck. Lol! Either way, I like having options!!!

The wide straps on the tank get a huge thumbs up from me. I don’t like it when my bra straps play peek-a-boo with my tops. The material of the tank is a nice heavyweight, and it has plenty of stretchiness which helps with the comfort level. I am pretty consistent with Chico’s sizing, and this top seems to run true to size. I am wearing my usual size 1, and it fits me great.

I decided to style the printed tank two ways. One was with a neutral pair of shorts, and then with the matching crop pants. I love the matching crops with the tank since it creates the look of a jumpsuit. You could wear the top out, belt it for a more fitted look, or add a jacket to the look for a dressier option.

The material is the same wrinkle-resistant fabric in the crops as in the tank. The crops are also extremely comfortable and have a pull-on style. The combination of those two factors sure makes for a great traveling outfit. I am wearing a size 1 in the pants also, and I think they run true to size.

Here are some other options with this print:

For some, the printed crops might be too hot this summer. Depending on what part of the country you live in, temperatures can soar over 100 degrees. You will probably be staying inside if possible on those days, but if you have to venture out, you want something cool to wear.

The So Slimming Brigitte 10″ shorts are fabulous! They also have the pull-on style (thank you very much), and the material is lightweight and stretchy. The So Slimming line has the So Slimming® Hidden Fit technology that slims and smooths at the tummy, and that also gets a “thank you very much” from me. I am wearing a size 1 in the shorts, and I think they fit great. I especially love the slim leg, and I think that silhouette is very flattering.

Since my Tory Burch Ella Canvas handbag seems to have sold out, I found a similar option for you. This handbag is not Tory Burch’s quality, but it is also almost $400.00 cheaper. Sometimes you need to choose a “similar look” because the original look is sold out or because the price is out of your budget.

I like giving options when I can, and I have a couple of others that I can give you today. The gold braided sandals that I have on are an affordable option. I have an extremely similar version in silver from Talbots that is more pricey.

Also, the zip wedge espadrilles that I am wearing with the crop pants are Michael Kors. I love Michael Kors shoes, and I find them very comfortable when having to do lots of walking. However, I did find a very similar affordable option, and I’ll link to that below.

  1. Tania, you ALAWYS look better in styles that the website models. Pretty much daily, I think that and it’s about time I tell you! Love your blog!!

    1. Dawn, you are the sweetest!!! You probably wouldn’t think that if you saw me in person trying to suck in my gut. lol!!!

  2. Love the shorts and the floral top. The floral top with the matching crop pants is a beautiful outfit. Love that it has the look of a jumpsuit without the going to the bathroom problem lol!

    1. Kathy, I didn’t even think about the bathroom problem being solved. Maybe you should be a blogger. Lol!

  3. I like the tank top and shorts outfit. I am comfortable wearing sleeveless shirts. I bought a few sets of dumbbells a while back and have been doing arm exercises 2-3 times per week to boost my confidence. It blows my mind that a $400 purse “sold out”!! Am I on the only frugal one in the group?? LOL

  4. Hi, I’m not very well versed on Instagram. I just opened my account to see your make up video with the three other bloggers. How do I find these videos? Can I get a tutorial somewhere? Thanks.

    1. Karee, we have a blast on these videos. The biggest problem that we have is that the person who hosted the video puts it on their feed/highlight. Go to my Instagram feed, https://www.instagram.com/50isnotold/ and you will see several circles along the bottom and under those, you will see something that says IGTV. Click there and you will see several of these videos. You can find the other ones that we’ve done by visiting each of the other ladies IG and doing the same thing.

  5. I affectionately call mine bingo wings which horrifies my daughter and makes me laugh. I play bingo and my arms flap, oh well. If it’s hot out, I’m wearing sleeveless. Most people are too worrried about their own arms to worry about mine. This was fun my friend!

  6. We ladies of a certain age have as much right as anyone to wear sleeveless. So what if we have some flabby bits? I like the floral top with the beige shorts and great that it doesn’t wrinkle!

    1. Janice, I can wish that my arms were toned, but that doesn’t make it so. Therefore, I’ll wear my sleeveless tops and keep on wishing.

  7. Love everything about every outfit today! Definitely need to shop the post. I’m torn about showing my arms, some days I don’t care and somedays I do! More and more though I just think, “whatever”, no one really cares except me.

    1. The truth is, no one thinks about it but you. I can’t remember the last time I thought about someone else’s arms. Lol!

  8. So the arm thing….when I was a younger woman I remember my mom and gramma always complaining about their arms and only purchasing tops and dresses with sleeves and I thought they were being so silly…and now…I GET IT!!! lol.
I had the dress fitting for my sons wedding last week and and I love my dress but it has short almost cap sleeves and I just wasn’t happy with that part of it and knew for years to come I would look at pictures and regret my choice. So first I bought a matching chiffon bolero jacket (the dress is lace) and it made me look very frumpy and the seamstress agreed. She didn’t think there was anything wrong with the sleeves but I did. So she is removing the short sleeves, making sleeves that will fall just below my elbow out of the material from the bolero jacket and then adding a little band of the dress material along the bottom of the new sleeve that matches the fabric of the rest of the dress. She rolled her eyes at me lol…but did agree that the new sleeves will look very nice after telling me the old ones look fine and that I shouldn’t give a S***.
And now my daughters laugh at me.

    1. Sharon, I believe you should wear what makes you comfortable. I also think that there is a big difference in wearing an everyday outfit and an event outfit. I can withstand a small amount of discomfort for the look if it is for an event. But, I want to choose comfort for an everyday look.

  9. Love the outfits! And most of all love the fact you are showing your arms! I work at a Women’s clothing boutique and there are so many women who won’t show their arms! I tell them to be thankful they have arms! I agree with the gal…to the hell with! I’m 74, overweight, have creepy skin, my arms aren’t like jello so when it is 90 and high humidity I will wear sleeveless! You go Girls! Life is too short!

    1. I totally agree with you! If it is hot and I want to go sleeveless, then that is what I am going to do!

  10. I turned 70 last year and said “the hell with it” and let my crepey arms show. Hahaha. Darling outfits Tania 😍

    1. Christine, I love your attitude. My arms are not toned, but they do their job, and I am extremely thankful for that. Also, if someone doesn’t like the looks of my arms, they can turn their head. Lol!

      1. Good for you about the arm thing! I have muscular arms from doing ranch work but feel my arms are too big even though I’m not overweight. Somehow I just can’t wear a sleeveless top no matter how hot it is. Sounds silly but it’s who I am.
