Outerwear for all kinds of weather
Some people call this time of the year sweater weather. If you live in Virginia, it can be shorts and tee weather one minute and a parka or puffer coat the next. You have to be prepared to change clothing at all times. Today I’m showing you some outerwear for all kinds of weather, so you should find something for your neck of the woods.
BTW, thanks so much for your kind comments about the new blog home page!!! Since most of you come to the blog through my daily emails, you might have never seen the home page. I’ve been working on it for about a year, and I’m thrilled that you like it and find it easier to use. There are a lot of new features, so play around and click on tabs and dropdown menus to see little surprises.
I like a vest for fall and early winter for a couple of reasons. They allow your arms to move freely, which is helpful if you are out walking, decorating, or even playing golf. A vest will also keep your core warm, and that is important for your body temperature. Also, a vest looks great when layered with a jacket or lightweight coat for a little extra warmth.
This vest is also versatile since it is reversible! I love reversible clothing since they give you more options for wearing them. I think this vest runs a tad bit large, so I would suggest sizing down if you are between sizes. I’m wearing a medium, and it is too big for me, especially through the chest. I’m not large-chested, so maybe that would make a difference. 🤷
I love the neutral color of the vest, and I think it would look great with almost anything.
This coat made Oprah’s Favorite Things List, and I know why! This is a lightweight coat, but it provides plenty of warmth; the temperature rating is -13° to +18° Fahrenheit.
The ThermoPlume®, the very latest in light synthetic insulation, is designed to mimic the lightweight warmth and softness of natural down. It gives great protection in chilly weather without all the bulk and weight of a heavyweight coat.
I’m wearing a medium, and I think the fit is perfect, and I still have room for a sweater or a vest. I like the large oversized pockets since they are large enough to hold gloves, a hat, and my phone.
I always prefer having a hood just in case it starts raining or snowing.
I love these insulated water-resistant boots (the molded rubber lower shell/sole unit is completely waterproof). They have a warm fleece lining and a removable foam-cushioned, sherpa-lined footbed. The 400-gram insulation keeps feet snuggly warm, and the faux fur collar adds a stylish detail I love. These are on sale for a great price, so be sure to check them out.
My outfit today is simple and casual. A navy crewneck sweater, a pair of straight leg ankle jeans, and a brown belt to tie in the brown from the boots.
This down coat is for those in really cold climates. It has a temperature rating of -25° to +10° Fahrenheit. It is made with water-resistant fabric, and the 600-fill power HyperDRY™ RDS down retains its warming power even when wet.
This is a long coat that falls to the mid-calf to keep you toasty warm.
The hood is removable for washing. That will be the only time I take it off since it is gorgeous.
The hood is also adjustable. Did I mention how gorgeous it is?
I love that there is this zipper that allows you to have more movement when you are walking. Small details like this mean a lot!

Really liking the boots!
Lands End has petite outerwear so always my go to!
I love the winter outfits.
I love that reversible vest! btw, I know I said I missed the list of stores you usually shop but I found it today. At the bottom of the post- might have been there all along!
Eileen, that’s where it’s been all along. Lol! On a laptop or computer, it is on the side. I don’t have anything on the “HOME” page, no ads, stores, etc.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE olive and blue together! The boots are+awesome too! So casual today, and so perfect too! You look absolutely great too! 🍁🍁🍁
Love the post, thinking about the Oprah’s favorite coat.
I love the post, I’m thinking about the “Oprah” coat.
Appreciate the winter outer weather posts. You look warm and very stylish.
Thanks for sharing some attractive snow boots. They are needed in PA.
Great options for staying warm this winter.
Thanks Tania
I love all the cozy winter looks. You look warm and stylish at the same time.
The Primaloft Vest outfit looks great!
Love the boots. You are staying warm in style.
Wow these are great jackets!! I really love the long one in the olive green color. Thanks for sharing!
This is what the website says: 100% polyester; 100% recycled polyester body insulation. Machine wash.
Is the Oprah’s Favorite coat machine washable ?
Love, love the maxi dark blue parka! So stylish! I also love vests and have a black maxi that I wear often and always get asked where I bought it. Who knew it would be so popular?
Tania. Just love your daily emails. I live in the UK and so disappointed that we no longer have a Talbots shop. On the upside I do have access to shops that have similar styles and your suggestions and ideas have really influenced how I shop now.
So glad you featured these winter coats! We will soon be seeing cold wintery weather here and I’m looking for a warm but light coat. Think I’ll get the “Oprah” coat as soon as I figure out the size.
Your new Home Page looks great! I am looking forward to exploring it when the time permits. The outer garments you shared are great options. The side zipper on the ankle length coat is a brilliant idea. Have a blessed day!
The blue sweater is gorgeous on you!
Thanks. I like to have basics like this that are great for an easy grab and go outfit.
Thank you, Tania, for showing each jacket/coat closed. It’s a huge help 👍
I’m eyeing that long puffer coat. I had one back in my 20’s when I worked in Chicago’s loop. It was like wearing a cozy sleeping bag. I walk a lot both at home & in NE Wisc at our lake home (brrrrr) I think I need one again!
Kathy, I love this one. It hasn’t been cold enough for me to wear it for a long time yet, but I can tell it ODS going to be cozy warm.
