Must-Have Tools for Stress-Free Holiday Decorating
Command Hooks and Clips
Y’all, these are a game changer! Command hooks come in every size and strength, and they’re perfect for hanging wreaths, string lights, and even stockings. And the best part? They come right off after the holidays without leaving any marks. For outdoor decor, get their outdoor-rated hooks—yes, they exist, and yes, they work!
Pro Tip: Wipe down the area with a bit of rubbing alcohol before you stick on the hook. Trust me, they’ll hold on even better.
These light clips are easy to stick on, hold up well through the season, and come off clean when you’re done. No nails, no damage—just a simple way to get your holiday lights looking perfect.
If your holiday decorations have extra long cords that need to be hidden, try out these Cord Bundlers. My favorite thing to use them for isn’t actually cords, though! They’re the perfect shape and size for holding up garland around doors or on banisters.
These outdoor-rated hooks are weather-resistant and super sturdy. They can hold up to 5lbs each! You can use them for hanging all sorts of stuff, but they work great as a wreath hangers on windows, doors, gates, etc.
Wreath Hangers for Doors
Speaking of wreaths, let’s chat about more wreath hanging options! Wreaths are one of my favorite holiday decorations, but nailing them to the door? No, thank you! A sturdy, adjustable wreath hanger is the perfect solution, and they come in so many styles these days. I love a classic metal hanger, but you can find ones that suction or stick to the door, too.
Not a fan of sticking something to your door? I get it! A traditional metal wreath hanger like this will be your best bet! This one can hold up to 10 lbs.
This nifty gadget features strong, adjustable zip cords that securely hold your decor without damaging your door—perfect for lightweight, seasonal decorations. It’s especially handy for screen doors or window screens where traditional hangers just don’t work, giving you a simple, no-fuss way to add a festive touch!
These heavy duty suction cup wreath hooks are clear and super strong, perfect for holding heavier wreaths on glass doors or windows!
Storage Solutions for Easy Setup and Takedown
If taking down decorations gives you a headache, you’ll love having dedicated storage bins for all your holiday gear. I’m talking about ornament boxes with little compartments, bins for garlands, and even reels for your lights.
When you’re getting everything out at the beginning of the season, assess what you’ll need for taking things down. A lot of the storage solutions sell out early! I promise, a little organization now will make decorating next year a total breeze.

Pro Tip: Add a hanging rod in your garage or basement to keep your wreath collection off the ground and organized!
No-Slip Ornament Hooks
Nothing’s worse than an ornament that falls and shatters. (I’ve been there!) Replace those flimsy metal hooks with sturdy, no-slip ornament hooks or clips. They’re perfect for securing those special, delicate ornaments that you don’t want sliding around.
These are great if you have small grandkids tugging on your ornaments or a naughty cat that likes to jump up in your tree to knock off your decorations! You get 24 for under $10. and you can re-use them year after year!
Garland Ties
Garland ties are a holiday miracle! Use them to wrap garlands around banisters, mantels, or any place you want a little extra greenery. They come in colors that blend right in, and they’re reusable, so you’ll get plenty of mileage out of them.

If you go for a tree collar, get a size that fully covers the tree base for the most seamless look.

Step Ladder
I can’t tell you how much a good, sturdy step ladder has saved me! Whether you’re putting the star on top of the tree, hanging wreaths up high, or stringing lights along the ceiling, a ladder will help you reach everything safely.
Find a lightweight ladder with a tool tray, like this one. That way, you can bring your hooks, ties, or whatever else you need up with you. I also like that this step stool has anti-slip steps so you stay safe while you decorate!

This one Iets you control outdoor lights and decor from your phone, so you can set everything to go on and off without stepping outside.
Battery Organizer and Tester
Holiday decorations can require a lot of batteries, and nothing is worse than scrambling to find one (or discovering dead ones) mid-decorating. A battery organizer keeps your batteries neatly stored, while a tester helps you quickly check which batteries are good to go.
Pro Tip: Store the organizer near your decor bins so that you always have fresh batteries ready for next season.
My husband has this exact battery organizer, and it’s been so nice not having to hunt for a working battery! It’s also handy to have around on Christmas gatherings so you can power up all the toys for the kids or grandkids in the family.
Heavy-Duty Extension Cords and Power Strips
Let’s kick things off with the power behind all those twinkling lights! You can never have too many heavy-duty extension cords, especially if you’re lighting up the outside. Make sure they’re outdoor-rated for the safest setup, and if you can, get green ones—they blend right into greenery and garlands. Inside, go for surge-protected power strips to keep everything safe and tidy.
Find power strips with built-in switches or remote controls. This way, you don’t have to crawl around every night to plug and unplug things. Keep it easy and keep it festive!
