WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO A MUSIC FESTIVAL

DSC_0012Okay gurls, I need some input. I will be attending the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam 2016 this Labor Day!!! I am totally stoked about attending this 3 day concert in Panama City Beach, Florida. I said “totally” and “stoked,” it must be 1999 again. Hahaha! So what’s the problem, you might ask. I haven’t attended a concert in ages, and I mean ages. I think the last time I attended a concert, the kids were small and I was at 6 Flags over Georgia. I saw Jimmy Buffett, and yes I was a parrot head. I have attended a few other concerts in my time, from Z Z Top, Willie Nelson, and the Osmond Brothers, to Michael Jackson. But, I have NEVER attended a huge outdoor festival, and certainly not one that is three days long.

So what’s the problem, you might ask. I DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO WEAR!!! Better yet, I don’t know WHAT to wear. What do you wear to an outdoor festival? You have to take into account that it will be in Florida, and it is on Labor Day. It will be hot!!! I am talking about the outdoor temperature, not about how Jake Owens looks in jeans. (Which I hear he split in a concert a couple years ago)

All I can think about is wearing cowboy boots, (I don’t own any), daisy-duke denim shorts, (I don’t own any), and cropped t-shirts. (I don’t own that either) Are you starting to see my dilemma? So, I did what everyone else on the planet does…… I went to Pinterest! Lol! Source festival So what do you think about this look? Modified of course! The shorts would have to be longer, and the gladiator sandals would have to be shorter. Haha festival 2 What about this style? Source I like the long flowy style, but would it be too hot? Does this say country music festival? I’ll keep looking.

What do you think about these choices? I love the Umgee dress, it is really cute. The plaid dress just screams country. Add some cowboy boots, and you are all set. The long flowy maxi dress is just perfection. It is thin, so I don’t think it would be too hot. Also, you wouldn’t have to wear cowboy boots, so that is a big plus. The next two dresses are similar. The black one has wide straps instead of the spaghetti straps on the gray one. I just think a dress will be cooler, what do you gurls think? The shorts and tank outfit is super easy. This would look perfect, be cool, and look appropriate.

Have you noticed the advertisement for the festival on the right hand side of the post? I am so proud of myself! I figured out how to load the image, AND how to fix the link so that when you click on the image it takes you to the site to purchase tickets. You need to try it out, even if you are not sure about attending the festival.

But let’s talk about attending the festival. Here are some reason’s you need to go to the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam:

  1. It’s Labor Day! Most people have a three-day weekend available, even if you work for a living.
  2. It is in Florida! Sand, Sun, and Fun
  3. Brad Paisley, Jake Owen, and Eric Church, plus Sara Evans and The Band Perry
  4. I’LL BE THERE!!!! Thanks to the good folks who are promoting the event, I get to attend. AND…..

Here is the best part, so do some of you. I have been given 6 tickets (3-Day General Admission Ticket) to give away to three lucky winners. For my 11 month blog anniversary, three lucky ladies will win 2 tickets to attend the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam 2016 in Panama City, Florida. Be sure to read my blog daily to see how to enter to win. You don’t want to miss this opportunity. Start thinking who you would bring with you. Husband, best friend, one of your children or grandchildren, maybe your mom. Oh My Goodness!!! We will have sooooo much fun!

Put your thinking caps on, and give me some country concert wear apparel ideas. Is this role reversal, or what??? Lol!

hey!!! we love your content and would be over the moon t o receive these concert tickets!!! The idea of Jake Perry in the summer is just to die for!!! As for the outfit- you want to stay cool and hip – but a country music essential is cowboy boots!! me and my gbf (gay best friend) insist on plaid, and he thinks you would look super cute in a wide brim hat!! We support you and hope you support gay rights!! peace and love xxx

  2. Where do you get the cardigans in all those beautiful colors??

  3. ELLA YOUNG says:

Dress for comfort! It will be hot and humid. Comfy shorts and tee or tank. A hat to shade your face.
I like to wear my Chaco sandals, good support for lots of standing. Or good supportive sneakers. Plus if there are only port-a-potties available you won’t want to wear a dress. A small backpack with your wipes, hand sanitizer. sunscreen, etc.
Yeah, not so cute or fashionable but believe me, no one will notice or care.
    Sounds like fun! Enjoy!

I live at the beach, and would certainly go with the dresses, they are so much cooler. Three days, 3 dresses. A long one for the cooler night time, a knee length for hot daytime, and a high low. Find out what kind of ground you are going to be on…if it’s dirt, the last thing I would want to wear is sandals, dirty feet are an awful feeling. Plenty of cute flats that you can slip off when you get to wear you are going. Try a hat that breathes, and don’t forget your shades. Oh yes, heavy jewelry will make you sweat. Have fun ?

  5. I’m 58 and I’ve been to many outdoor festivals. Forget the cute flowing dresses. Hot long days and lots of walking. I would have on jeans, sneakers and a t-shirt. Your outfit for what to wear on a motorcycle would be perfect, I think it’s very cute. It could get cold at night so I’d take a sweater.

    1. I agree with you, Kathy. We have a condo in PCB and go a couple of times a year. This venue is not on the beach but across the highway from the beach at a big sports complex so not sure how much gulf breeze will make it there but it could get cool at night. We’ve been to music festivals in PCB in mid October that have gotten quite cool at night. And you MUST go to Dee’s Hangout to eat. It’s a little place in a strip mall on Front Beach but so, so good! Bayou on the Beach is great too.

      1. Thanks for the suggestions, Scherri. I am glad to have a heads up on places to eat:)

  6. I live in FL and I can tell you it will be very hot and still very humid. I would never think about wearing boots in this heat, especially if they’re not broke in, etc. Perhaps denim shorts and a fun cowboy hat would help make you feel more country and wear Sandals. I would consider wearing a fun dress in the evenings, I love the maxi. Tops and dresses should be flowy light cotton, like gauze. Everything else might stick to you. Have fun!

  7. Right now Old Navy is featuring their Boho look. You may want to take a look they have a lot of cute outfits. Enjoy!

  8. We went to an outdoor concert a few weeks ago in Texas and you can bet it was ridiculously hot. Almost everyone wore short sun dresses (flowy and fitted ones) with cowboy boots. They all looked precious! Love your blog! Susan

  9. Will you be sitting on the ground? Think comfort! Shorts get my vote! A cute top, even a retro band tee!

    1. I think you may have to bring chairs, I am not sure. I do know my tickets are on the side stage, so I need to check that out.

  10. I think you should stick with cute, flat sandals and maybe a print shorts romper.

  11. I would concentrate on finding the perfect cowboy hat! Then choose a cool sleeveless top and appropriate length shorts. Boots sound cute but definitely HOT (hate when my feet are hot) and the younger generation tends to over wear that style with their Daisy Dukes. I’d go with cute, comfy sandals. Nothing says country better that a cowboy hat! I’ve never liked the idea of dresses during a hot outdoor event…sweat dripping everywhere lol You always look amazing! Have fun!

  12. I have a house in PCB, and am always there on Labor day. You will have to walk a long distance to get to the venue. So comfortable shoes. It will be extremely hot, so shorts and cool top. No one dresses up…just jeans or shorts. Mosquitos will be fierce…so take repellant. And expect traffic to be very slow. Last year it rained, but the show went on….so be sure to pack an umbrella. Also, be careful with your purse and belongings…thieves abound! They can do it in a second! Have fun! Enjoy your blog!

  13. Catherine says:

I think that if you do not own cowboys that are broken in – this could create sore feet. Wear cute flat sandals since you will be standing and dancing a lot. Something cool that drapes away from the body for maximum cool air flow. Lots of sunscreen – maybe a cute hat. You will want to be comfortable! This sounds like so much fun!
    Enjoy!

  14. Linda Thompson says:

I like the plaid dress with boots… Or the modified short outfit!! You will look great in whatever you wear!! Love the outfit you are in today!

  15. Susan Roberts says:

I think I might skip the cowboy boots and go with sandals (cute ones of course!).Your feet will be much happier! I love the long flowing dress. And SUNSCREEN!!!!

  16. Love the long flowy dress but definitely will be too hot. Maybe the same thing in a shore version. Is the concert on the beach/in the sand? If so, no cowboy boots. Too hot! Flip flops or no shoes at all. And of course cutoffs and a tank top will always work. And a hat, you need a cowboy hat. 1 because it is a cowboy hat and 2 to keep the sun off your face. Have fun!! and take lots of pics!

    1. Melesa Garrison says:

The sandals with fringe would be cute with some denim shorts and maybe a gauze top. Cool is key. Boots would be cute, but hot and get uncomfortable throughout the day (especially new boots) Hope you have a wonderful time.

  17. You could buy some jean shorts that are long enough, and cut just the hem off so you have that rugged look. Plaid shirt def! Have fun!

  18. WOW! You gurls are up and going early this Saturday morning. I’ve had a really bad headache (weather related) and tight and tense shoulders, so I tried to sleep in. I agree with you, that Glamour Farms has the look I am going toward. I am going to be shopping my closet, looking for something I already own, and then throwing in a few extras. Since it will be sandy, I think sandals will be essential. I already have a denim dress and also a denim skirt, so that might be one look. I know for sure that sunscreen, a hat of some kind, bug spray, and probably a light jacket for when it gets dark will be going with me. Thanks for all your suggestions, I am off to check out Glamour Farms. Lol!

  19. Aline Trussell says:

I live in Panama City Beach. It will be warm so I suggest shorts and a loose top and comfortable shoes as you will be walking a lot. A shorter loose dress with boots would be a great option. You will almost always have a good breeze at PierPark. A cowboy hat would be great to protect you from the sun. The mosquitos come out at dusk so bug spray and longer sleeves/pants are better for at night. September is beautiful down here.

  20. Sharon Neff says:

I went to several days of the Riverbend music festival in Chattanooga in June. It was very hot! and I walked a lot! So I would recommend cute, but comfy shoes or flipflops with a little glitz. Then shorts or capris. Then a really cute, cool, flowy top. Use your style in the top and a cute hat and be prepared to……glow (sweat)! Have fun!

  21. Tonia,
I’m a Texas girl and know all about dressing for the heat!! What about a chambray shirt dress, (not maxi, too hot) with some flat tan fringe gladiator sandals? A little western, but COOL. Another thought would be flat fringed sandals with ripped denim shorts and red top. Turquoise jewelry is always a plus!! If you do chambray, coral jewelry would be cute!

this is what comes to mind first. Might post again later.

    Blesssings,
    Dorian

  22. tamiblackfranklink12gaus says:

Justin Boots make REALLY CUTE bling flip flops! I have had several pair and they would be perfect for the music festival!

  23. I pretty much find that people where anything they want anywhere they go. Just pick what you love and stay cool!

  24. I love all the suggestions so far. Glamour Farms sounds like your answer. Comfortable sandals/flip flops. But I wonder about a maxi dress. It will be in the sand, dirt, mud, etc… These are not held pool side. I wouldn’t want anything that I would be dragging or tripping over. Just my two cents. You’re going to look great in whatever you choose. Have a ball!

  25. I would definitely go a more casual route and not wear a dress. I will tell you from experience those outdoor festivals can be muddy or dusty. I would opt for shorts and I would also wear closed toe shoes – just saying. Also a cowboy hat is required. Enjoy!

  26. Rebecca Purdie says:

Don’t over think it. Just go with what feels comfortable. I know you will look super fab. Have fun!!!

  27. Charlene Wasno says:

    GURL!
How exciting PCB on Labor Day weekend!
Remember it’s HOT. And yes, you will be doing a lot of walking. So dress for comfort. Toss all the cowboy attire, pull out your cutest beach wear. Only cute tanks Ts and shorts. Maybe short cotton dresses. Hope you have the best time. PCB is our favorite vacation spot.
    Excited to see your picks.

  28. A camo dress would be cute, or a romper. The scarf top you have on would work to. Stay cool, enjoy! Love your blog.

  29. Love the plaid dress. Don’t limit yourself to cowgirl boots! Wear some cute booties!

  30. I love the BB Dakota dress and think you would look great in it! Have a great time ! By the way ..I love your blog!

  31. Sunscreen and bug spray first, then something denim. A flowy gauzy top and sandals. I think boots would be hot. Unless it rains. Also make sure everything is washable. You’d hate to ruin a cute outfit. These crowds can get rowdy!! I agree you should have a look at Glamour Farms. They could help you get just the right chic country look!! Plenty of cute tops and dresses reasonably priced.

  32. IF IT WAS ME?? I WOULD EITHER WEAR A LONG “”””COOL”””” DRESS WITH SOME TYPE OF SHOE, SANDAL?? THAT I COULD WALK COMFORTABLY IN……OR I WOULD WEAR A PAIR OF LONGER NICE SHORTS & A COOL TOP…..OR CAPRIS…..I WOULD BE ME & NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO BE ANYONE OR ANYBODY ELSE…..STAY COOL & SAFE!! BE HAPPY & SO GLAD YOU GET TO GO!! HAVE SO MUCH FUN!!

  33. I’ve gone to lots of Kenny Chesney concerts & I have seen a lot of looks! Trust me……I keep my looks age appropriate whether indoors or outdoors.& even when the lady next to me did not!?. I go w/layers (especially outdoors). I like the maxi dress w/a light cover up ( for when the sun goes down) & you can wear sandals or flip flops & definitely go w/a hat for the SUN & FUN?. Sounds like an awesome time????

  34. Just my opinion, wear something comfortable, that makes you feel good. Dress for yourself.

  35. Labor Day is still super hot here in Florida. Flowy tank tops, shorts and sandals and a strappy maxi dress are good. I second Julie’s suggestion for a cowboy hat. Have fun! Looking forward to hearing all about it!

  36. Each morning, I drink coffee and read your blog. You have a great sense of humor and style!
Thank you for making my mornings brighter 🙂 -Nacy

  37. So while the boots would be cute and country, if you wear them all day outside in FL heat and humidity, your feet will ROAST! Go for cute sandals or flip-flops so your feet will get some air.

  38. Malissa Williams says:

I think you will be hot in boots. If you go to Boot Barn (if there’s one close to you), you could get some ideas for country western outfits. Also a pair of bling flip flops will go with a country western outfit. They sell them at Boot Barn too. ?

  39. Lucky you to go Panama City! My husband has dreamed of going to the large jazz feast they hold there each April. It’s on his bucket list.

We attend two large outdoor smooth jazz concerts in the finger lakes area each year and I’ve learned to dress light. It’s normally warm and humid. Combine that with a glass or two of wine and it’s the perfect recipe for internal heat. I normally wear gauze since it’s airy, normally in a flowy top, with seersucker Capri’s and sandals, tossing a jacket in my bag if it gets cool later. Other folks at the event dress up in long flowy maxi dresses with sandals, cold shoulder tops, wide brimmed hat, A couple hardy fashionistas wear high heals but that’s never an option for me with a long walk to the event.

I’m sure you’ll get lots of ideas. The key is to have fun and enjoy the event. Sounds wonderful!

  40. a vanderven says:

I recommend wearing mosquito repellent first LOL

  41. It’s going to be very hot! Shorts, cool shirt/tahirt and sandals/flip flops will be what everyone else is wearing…I promise!!

    1. Totally agree with Michele. All the clothes pictured above are too dressy, I think. Shorts, tshirt and cheap flip flops. Bring a long sleeved denim shirt to cover arms and neck so you don’t burn too badly. Loose-fitting light weight pants for after dark when it gets chilly and to protect from sun during the day. Wide-brimmed hat. Have fun!

  42. Cheryl Plofkin says:

I would say to wear shorter dresses for the daytime instead of the maxi dress save that for night. I think anything lace plaid or denim would look great. Enjoy I’m so jealous

  43. I love the Umgee dress! I find a dress or skirt is always an easy, cool option for the hot weather. I’ll bet Glamour Farms has lots of options to pair with your cowboy boots!

  44. Def love that long flowy dress – especially in green – can imagine it will look awesome on you!
Have loads of fun, will look forward to pictures of you in your outfit 😉

    xx Yvonne

  45. Michelle Mosteller says:

I bet Glamour Farms or One Faith Boutique would have some super cute dress options you could pair with cowboy boots!

    1. whatever dress you chose make sure you wear a cowboy hat – its practical and true country
