Is Loft Too Young for Us? How to Style Modern Classics for Women Over 50

If you’ve walked past a Loft store and thought, “That’s cute, but it’s for my daughter/granddaughter”, you’re not alone. I used to think the same thing. One of the biggest hurdles we face as we age is the feeling that modern brands have “aged out” of our wardrobes. But I’m here to tell you that style has no expiration date.

The secret isn’t in the label; it’s in the selection. Today, I’m sharing a recent Loft try-on haul to show you how to pick pieces that are fresh and modern while remaining timeless and flattering.

The Romantic Spring Look: Floral Meets Flare

Floral Tie-Cuff Blouse & High-Rise Wide-Leg Crop Jeans

This outfit is a masterclass in balance. The Floral Tie-Cuff Blouse features a soft, intricate print that feels feminine without being “girly.” It has a beautiful off-the-shoulder silhouette that stays in place, but you can also wear it higher on the neckline for more coverage. The sleeve ties add a custom touch that feels high-end.

I’ve paired it with the Rivete High-Rise Wide-Leg Crop Jeans. For those of us who want a break from skinny jeans, these provide a sophisticated, structured shape. The high rise keeps everything tucked in comfortably, while the cropped length is perfect for showing off your footwear.

The “New Neutral” Hero: The Latte Brown Mariner Pant

Everyday V-Neck Tee & Mariner Pants (Two Ways)

If you buy one thing this season, let it be these Mariner Pants in Latte Brown. The “sailor” button detail adds visual interest to the midsection without adding bulk, and the wide-leg cut in sturdy twill is incredibly forgiving. I loved these so much I had to bring them home!

I styled them first with the Everyday V-Neck Tee in Thyme Garden. This isn’t your average thin t-shirt; the cotton has a nice weight to it, and the V-neck is the most flattering cut for elongating the neck.

For a Layered Look: I added the Marled V-Neck Cardigan in Whisper White. This is a great “third piece” to hide the upper arms or to navigate chilly air conditioning. The marled texture makes it look more expensive than a flat knit, and the relaxed fit keeps it modern.

Effortless Daily Style: The Versa Relaxed Tee

Blue Glaze Tee & Mariner Pants

For a casual day of running errands or meeting friends for lunch, I swapped the olive for the Versa Relaxed Tee in Blue Glaze. This shade of blue is universally flattering; it really brightens up the face! The “relaxed” fit means it doesn’t cling to the midsection, which is a major win for comfort.

I liked the blue color so much that I ordered several items. (You’ll find those at the end)

The Foundation: Why I Wear NAOT Sandals

You’ll notice I styled every single one of these looks with my NAOT Sandals with Cork Footbed. When we’re traveling or on our feet all day, we can’t compromise on support.

  • Arch Support: The cork footbed actually molds to your foot over time.
  • Easy On/Off: The straps are velcro! No more fumbling with tiny buckles.
  • Security: Because of the strap placement, they stay securely on your feet, no “flip-flopping” or tripping hazards here.
  • Pro-Tip: These run a bit small, so I recommend sizing up.

More Loft Styles I Ordered

Since I couldn’t find every size in-store, I’ve already placed an order for these pieces that I think you’ll love just as much.

  1. Tania! Loft is one of my favorite places to shop!
    Happy Monday❤❤❤

The photo of your husband and the baby is just adorable. I love the blouse in the first picture.

  3. Sue Debord says:

The first top is so feminine. I like it with the crop jeans.

  4. I love the small bag you are holding, Do you have a link for it?
    Thanks so much.

  5. I feel like no selection in petites in Loft in our town since they cut the floorspace. I did wander in there the other day and saw a cute little dress in PS that didn’t fit but the style was the cinched waist pinstripe button down dress with cute sleeves. I got them to order the PXXS since a sale was on and hopefully it fits and I love it. The PS came to around knee area. Would look cute on hot summer days with sandals or sneakers or dress up for church. Talbots has a twisted elbow sleeve tee I love and went back to get another one. I have pink and blue now. I too adore that picture of your grandbaby and husband enjoying their chat!!!

  6. 😄 I like Loft! I found it’s like you are saying you just have to pull pieces and try on. Love the sandals!

  7. I’m 66 and always find clothes I like at Loft. Every time I go there I walk out with at least two pieces from their Lou & Grey line. They carry great cardigans and their Versa line is so polished and chic.

  8. I’ve recently returned my shopping towards the Loft and Ann Taylor, quality is worth it, plus once you find a piece go online, they often have great sales and rewards😀

  9. Oh my goodness-that photo of your husband and the baby is priceless!!!!!! I noticed Hadrian is wearing the oxygen sat monitor; my poor little grandson had to do that for months and I had such a hard time getting it on correctly. I’m sure you can do it with ease.

Love the first Loft look. The blouse is adorable.

      Cutest picture ever!

  10. 🙂 I feel like so many of the stores I go into feel too young for me.

    1. That is how so many felt when I first started sharing about Old Navy. Now, they shop there with ease. It is a “mindset” thing, you have to not look with an overall blush, but notice individual items.

    2. I find that much of Loft really works for me, but every once in awhile they have a collection that is clearly too young. Last week I noticed they had a bunch of very puffy sleeve shirts in clearance. Maybe they are trying to do some collections that will bring in younger shoppers? It’s not currently a place my mid-20’s daughters shop.
