JEANS ARE WHAT I WEAR THE MOST IN THE FALL

I bet a lot of you are like me when it comes to jeans. Jeans are what I wear most in the fall of the year, but I find them the hardest to find a good fit. Tell me that it isn’t just my body that is hard to fit and that I am not alone in my struggle. Jeans are what I wear the most in any season, but I really love them in the fall and winter months. So, on today’s blog post, I am trying on a bunch of different jeans and then giving you a description of the fit.

I haven’t even looked yet for the jeans on the website, but I can guarantee that some of these will be completely sold out, some will be limited in sizes, and some will be well-stocked. That is how it is with every brand that I shop, but it is worse when there is an ongoing sale.

So, take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Truthfully, there is no make or break pair of jeans. Some are more popular at the moment, some that are more affordable, and some that you might fall in love with the color or style. But, rest assured, there is another pair of jeans our there that is similar, and I am going to try and find them for you.

I saw several of you were upset with the way that Nordstrom approached their sale. I am not a fan either, but I don’t own the store or make the rules. Most companies like to “reward” their best customers, and this is sort of what Nordstrom is doing. They could do the reward privately by emailing their best customers and giving them a day or two of early shopping. But, I do think that they like the hype, and they are trying to encourage everyone to sign up for their card.

I also saw that some had issues with Nordstrom’s price points. That is how I used to feel too, but I have figured out which brands that I like to buy from, and I will sort by that feature. Here is what I will usually do when I am shopping at Nordstrom. I will go to the category that I want to shop. Women’s – Jeans – leg style – price. Those are how I filter what I am shown when I am shopping. If I am looking for a pair of bootcut jeans and I don’t want to spend over 100.00, then I am not shown the jeans that cost more than that.

I do like shopping at Nordstrom, though, because of the free shipping and free returns. There are a lot of stores that I would call my favorites, and then there are other stores that are more my occasional. Lol! In no particular order, I shop at Nordstrom, Talbots, Chicos, Loft, Ann Taylor, Target, Walmart, Amazon, J. Crew, Belk, Old Navy, Catos, Soma, White House Black Market, and Zappos. I also shop at the online factory outlets, and I love TJ Maxx, but I haven’t gotten to shop there in a long time.

If what I am wearing this week is outside of your budget, then use my photos as inspiration photos to shop at other stores or from your own closet. Next week I might be shopping at a store that you like, but that someone else hates. That is how it works, I can’t please everyone, even though I try.

The clothing that I choose might be the wrong type of clothing for where you live. Some people live in hot areas, and some live in cold areas, so I try to style clothing that works for everyone at one time or another. I don’t only style shorts or parkas, so you should be able to find something that you like.

COVID-19 has put a damper on a lot of us. Some are feeling the sting from a financial standpoint; some know people who have gotten sick or possibly died; some are trying to navigate working from home, and some at wearing their pajamas all day long. In one way or another, this virus has disrupted everyone’s life.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a faded red v-neck t-shirt with a pair of dark rinse jeans and brown ankle boots

For me, as a blogger, I am trying to figure out how to keep everything somewhat normal and showing you outfits that you can wear at home, work, but most of them aren’t meant for sleeping. There are days when I find myself wanting to sit around in my robe and pj’s also, but I will make myself get up and put on leggings and a tee-shirt. Lol! Gurls, it is perfectly fine to embrace loungewear, but don’t ONLY wear yoga pants and leggings unless you own a gym. I promise you that you will feel better if you get dressed even if it is only jeans and a tee. Lol!

So, let’s start the jeans try-on session!

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a faded red v-neck t-shirt with a pair of distressed hem jeans and brown ankle boots from Nordstrom

I am starting with the jean that I wanted the most from this sale. It was by a brand that I had never worn before, and I wasn’t sure how they would fit. I listened to the website (big mistake), and I sized up. However, these fit like boyfriend jeans, and they are baggy. I think that is how they are supposed to fit, but I’m not sure that I like the fit through my tummy area. I LOVE the hem of the pants, and that is the whole reason that I ordered them.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a pair of distressed hem jeans and brown ankle boots

Because I wanted these jeans so badly, I ordered two different sizes, but they are both too big. These jeans are sold out of every size. But, I am taking a deep breath, and then I am looking at “similar” jeans. Here is what I found, so be sure to tell me if you think that the similar jeans are just as cute as these.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing brown ankle boots

I just got these ankle booties yesterday. These have a 4 1/2 inch high shaft, which is higher than a standard ankle boot. I ordered them so that they would go with crop jeans like these. The block stacked chunky heel is what you will see all year long; it is the rage right now. These ankle boots are by March Fisher, and they feature a gored design up the side. The boots have elastic in those areas, and that is how you pull the boots on. They are a little challenging to put on the first time, but after I got the hang of it, they went on pretty easy. Once I decide to keep these, I’ll add some baby powder to my foot so that it will slide in super easy. I am wearing my usual size 9, and they fit great. However, I don’t wear socks with my shoes, and the pointy toe is snug, so take all of that into consideration if you decide to order.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a faded red v-neck t-shirt with a tweed blazer

This tweed blazer by Halogen is perfect for fall. I love the color of this blazer, and I think that it will go with a ton of clothing this year. I took the website’s suggestion and sized down to a medium in this, but I have already ordered the large also. Even though the blazer buttons and fits alright through the waist, it is too tight through the back. So, I am crossing my fingers that the large works because I love the way that this blazer looks.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a red v-neck t-shirt with a pair of gray jeans and brown loafers

Once again, these jeans are sold out. As frustrating as that is, that really isn’t the point of this post. The point of the post is to show you several different jeans by different brands so that you can get an idea of how the brands fit and the sizing. So, these jeans are by Wit & Wisdom. If you’ve never tried this brand, then do yourself a favor and grab a pair that you like. These fit like a dream, and they are really close to being loungewear. Everyone who has tried this brand before, please chime in with how you think they fit.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a pair of gray jeans and brown loafers

Wit & Wisdom is also an affordable brand, and most of their jeans will range in the 50.00+ range. These jeans are still available for ladies who wear plus size clothing, so scoop this pair up before it sells out also. Wit & Wisdom jeans run true top size, and I am wearing my usual size 10 in these jeans. Here are a couple more jeans for you to choose from.

I think that these leather loafer by Dr. Scholls are very preppy and professional looking. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t wear these shoes with distressed jeans, shorts, or even skirts. These are a great shoe that will go with almost anything. The cute bar across the foot is a great detail for style, and the cushioned footbed is great for comfort. These run true to size, and they are available in several colors.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a red v-neck t-shirt with a pair of straight leg jeans and snakeskin ankle boots

Straight leg jeans seem to be very popular this year. I’ve worn NYDJ jeans before, and I have found them to be an excellent quality jean that runs true to size. I am wearing my usual size 10 in these jeans, and I love the fit of them. These jeans have a 32″ inseam, so they are not super long, especially for someone like me who is 5’6″ tall.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a pair of straight leg jeans and snakeskin ankle boots with a stacked heel

A straight leg jean gives a slim silhouette, but you can still wear boots with them. I see that these jeans are getting limited in sizes also, so I’ll see if I can locate some similar straight leg jeans for you. Here is the link to these jeans.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing snakeskin ankle boots with a stacked heel

I love these leather open-toe snakeskin ankle booties! They also have the big block chunky heel, are you starting to notice a trend? And, the heel is a tiny bit higher than the others since it is 4″ tall. It is strange because it didn’t feel like it was that tall when I was walking in it. I am wearing my usual size 9, but I have ordered a 9.5 to compare the fit. The size is fine, but the band at the ankle feels tight. I’ve tried these on a couple of times, and they seem to be fitting me better. Maybe they are stretching, but I’m waiting for the other pair to arrive before I make my decision.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a red v-neck t-shirt with a pair of distressed jeans and brown Cole Hann loafers

Did I just see some eye rolls from some of you? I know that distressed jeans aren’t everyone’s favorite like they are mine. For those who don’t like distressed jeans, you are not going to care at all that these are sold out. For those fans of distressed jeans, I’ll find something similar for you. But I did want to tell you about these jeans. These are BLANKNYC jeans, and this is the first time that I have tried this brand. They fit great, and I love how soft they feel. These jeans run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 30 in them, which is a size, 10 misses.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a red v-neck t-shirt with a pair of straight leg distressed jeans and suede wedge shoes

I am a little confused about these jeans. These say that they are the Rachel Mom Jeans from Kut From The Kloth. They are sold out, so I don’t guess it matters. But, these jeans don’t look anything like the jeans they show on the website. I liked the Sold Out version better, but I love Kut From The Kloth jeans, so I may keep these.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a pair of straight leg jeans and Cole Hann wedge shoes

Kut From The Kloth is a great mid-level jean. They are not cheap, but they are not expensive, either. Lol! I have several jeans from this brand, and I highly recommend them for an everyday knock around jean. They run true to size, and I usually purchase a 10 unless they say that the pair runs differently.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing Cole Hann wedge shoes

These leather Cole Hann wedge shoes are a hit in my book!!! I love these shoes, how they fit, how they look, and the color is a great neutral that will go with everything. I think that these are the first pair of Cole Hann shoes that I have tried, and I am already a huge fan. They feel so comfortable that I am amazed. The footbed is super cushy, and I would think that walking in these would be a breeze. I also like the cute geometric stitching on the heel for a little added detail.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a red v-neck t-shirt, a black blazer, a pair of distressed jeans and black knee boots

Who doesn’t need a black blazer? You can wear a blazer with a dressy outfit or with jeans for a casual/dressy look. This is a blazer by 1.State, and this is the first time that I’ve tried this brand. It is a one-button closure, and it is accented with shirting-striped lining exposed when the sleeves are rolled. I sized up to a 12 as the website recommended, and the blazer fits me great. The blazer also comes in Navy, and here is that link.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a pair of distressed jeans and black knee boots with a brown sole

These black leather knee boots by Vince Camuto are great! I love the pebbled leather, but it is the 1 3/4 stacked heel that sold me on these boots. The brown heel and the black boot appeals to me for some reason. I think these boots will look great with black or brown, which gives me more opportunities to wear them. They do have the pointy toe, so realize that they will be snug through that area until they are broke in. I am wearing my usual size 10, and they fit me great. However, I don’t wear socks, so if you are unsure about which size to wear, you might want to size up 1/2 a size. I have big calves, so I was surprised when these fit me and that I was able to put them on over my jeans. The boots also come in brown suede and snake print, so be sure to check them out.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a red v-neck t-shirt, a pair of Joe's dark jeans and black ankle boots

These last two pairs of jeans are the most expensive. And, wouldn’t you know it, they are the ones that I like the best. DANG, IT! I hate when that happens because now I have to sit down and figure out if I will get my money’s worth from the purchase. This is the Honey Curvy Bootcut Jean by Joe’s Jeans. I have bought Joe’s before, and I found that they ran small. So, this time I sized up to a size 31 and they fit perfectly. I love the dark rinse, which is more dressy and elegant, looking in my opinion.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a pair of Joe's dark jeans and black ankle boots

I am wearing a pair of Vince Camuto black ankle boots that have a 3 1/2″ heel, and you can see that the jeans are plenty long even with those. The inseam of these pants is 34.5″ so if you don’t need that long of an inseam, you will need to either have them hemmed or check out this pair by Joe’s that is similar but has a 30″ inseam.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing black ankle boots by Vince Camuto

These black leather pointed-toe boots by Vince Camuto are lovely! I don’t have a good pair of black ankle boots, so I decided to grab these in black instead of the brown snake print that I wanted. I love the big black chunky heel, and that will keep me more stable when I walk. The pointy toe does make the boot feel tight, but I don’t think that I want to size up. But, I don’t wear socks with my shoes; I just can’t stand the feeling. So, if you wear socks, especially if they are thick, then you will want to size up at least a half size. These zip in the back, so they are pretty easy to put on and take off.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a red v-neck t-shirt, a pair of Paige dark jeans and brown ankle boots

And the last pair of jeans is also the longest. The inseam on this pair is 35″, but they seem much longer than the Joe’s pair. I had never tried this brand before, it is Paige, and these are the Manhattan Bootcut jean. Even though these jeans said true to size, I decided to size up to a 31, and I am glad that I did because they fit great.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a pair of Joe's dark jeans and brown Tory Burch ankle boots

You can see that these jeans will drag the ground even though I have on my Tory Burch high ankle boots that have a 3 1/2″ heel. These jeans are super soft, and they are probably the softest pair that I tried on. They have some stretch to them, so they are giving and comfortable to wear and sit in.

Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is showing the back of a pair of Paige dark jeans and black ankle boots

Everyone always wants to see how things look from the back, but I struggle to figure out how to get that shot. This is as good as I could do. Lol! This is all for today. But, on Saturday, I plan on showing you all of the sweaters that I bought and how they fit. I am hoping that we have better luck with the inventory on the sweaters than we did on the jeans. But, I am not going to hold my breath since everything seems to be selling out. I know that it is frustrating for you, and it is frustrating for me also. It makes me have to work two to three times as hard since I am trying to find other items for everyone. Oh well, COVID has ruined something else this year.

I love NYDJ – fit really well. And I really like the second to last pair of jeans on you. The dark cut. The last ones I think are just too long but that’s just me.

  2. Julia Purtill says:

I struggle with finding jeans to fit. I have a thick middle and toothpick legs. It’s impossible! I like skinny leg the best which makes it even harder.

  3. Thank you for this post. It is so helpful! could you share where you got your t shirt? you look lovely in the pink and it looks like a nice weight shirt

  4. Jody Edwards says:

You look really cute in jeans and I too love the distressed. I’m 59 and love the reinforcement that it’s ok to wear these jeans!

  5. What a great time for this post.In the summer jeans are too hot for me, unless they are white and cropped.I love the NYDJ heans but they cannot be tossed in the dryer, so i struggle with finding a place for them to dry quickly without wrinkling.

What do you suggest as far as shoes to wear with a dark rinse boot cut?

  6. Elizabeth Horsley says:

Since my weight loss, I have become a huge fan of Ann Taylor jeans. The high-rise skinny fit like a glove, and I feel so good in them at my current size 14. (I was wearing a 20!). I also have tried Wit and Wisdom and do like them as well.
As I am currently stuck in the US, and not able to get home to my family in Canada, I have been amusing myself with the Nordstrom sale!

  7. I love cabi jeans. They fit like a glove and are quality denim with a great stretch

  8. I love your hairstyle too! Are you growing it out? Just curious! I also love your ideas with all of the jeans, very helpful!!

  9. Indeed, good fitting & looking jeans/pants are the HARDEST thing for me to find as well. I’m about a size bigger than you, and not quite the same shape, as I bought those cute flower embroider jeans from Chicos, and they’re ok on me, but too loose around the waist & a bit too snug on legs. I can wear them, but must use a belt. They were a great price, but my usual go to jeans are less $ & usually Amanda jeans by Gloria Vanderbilt, at Kohls or Fred Meyers/Krogers. They fit great, have a bit of stretch & seem to wear well.

  10. Thank you for taking the time to put so much into this post. It’s seems funny to me that you have a hard time finding jeans that fit right because I’ve never seen anyone look so good in jeans as you do.

  11. Great article on jeans. As a petite, the first thing I look for is if they’re available in a 26″ inseam which ends a little above the ankle on me which seems to be the best look for me. If they’re stretchy enough for me to roll up, I can achieve a girlfriend crop look so they’re more versatile.

I’ve become addicted to Talbots jeggings since I can get them in a short length and the fit is great (not too loose, not too tight)–and I can often pick them up for a steal. I have five pairs now in varying colors and washes. After your post with the camel utility pants and black t-shirt, I decided I had to have a pair of pants in a similar color. I found that Talbots had their jeggings in a “rattan” color in a 26-1/2″ inseam on sale for less than $20. I couldn’t resist!

  12. Love your blog!
If I cant afford the look, I do copy it within my budget! Thanks for taking the hassle out of wondering about the fit and feel on things!

  13. G. Leanette Flentroy says:

Tania, you are so interesting. I would love to have you as a neighbor. And thank you for the rear views. Your blog is great. Perfect.

  14. I don’t shop the Nordstrom sale as I live in Canada and the exchange rate is brutal. I pay attention to how you style the different types of jeans and then shop my closet to get the look. I am a huge fan of dark wash jeans as they look so classy or you can dress them down with a tee and some sneakers. Thanks for all your great ideas.
    Shalom.

  15. I’m on a quest for the perfect jeans and I have yet to find any that fit the bill. I’ve tried AG, Kut From The Kloth (all I’ve tried are too snug in the thigh) and I wanted to try Wit and Wisdom but they sold out in my size. Right now, my go to is Denizen from Target but I really would like to find a good classic pair.

  16. Thanks for previewing the great selection of jeans this morning. I thought the last two pairs that you identified as the splurge jeans were my least favorite on you. Liked some of the others much better.

  17. Thank you for all your ideas in clothing. what makes your blog interesting is the fact that you purchase clothes from all different price points and different stores.
    I find that extremely helpful.
Thanks you again. I enjoy reading your blog everyday for the past few years.

    1. Love all the different jeans today! I’ll have to try some different brands too……appreciate you always doing so much work to make it easy for us to shop!!!!

  18. I wish I had a favorite pair of jeans and I’m still trying to decide which style looks the best on my body type so I wear a few different styles. Please show us how you are pulling your hair up as it is SO cute like this. Would love a side and back view 🙂

  19. Great Jeans review!! Wit and Wisdom are hands down my favorite!! I own several pair of them. I also own NYDJ, Kut from the Kloth and AG. There is just something about the Wit and Wisdom that fit the best!

    1. Diane Schexnyder says:

Great post and you look AWESOME in the last pair of dark jeans!

  20. Patti Wagner says:

I’m the same Tania. Wear jeans the most in cooler weather. My go to is usually Levi’s. Question – what are your thoughts on wearing a jean jacket with jeans? Too much? If so, what’s your go to jacket?

    1. I’m not sure why, but Levi’s don’t fit me correctly. On a jean jacket with jeans; I am not opposed to the look and I have worn it before. I try to make the jeans and jacket be completely different colors, but matching is in style again. Wear what makes you happy, and don’t worry what others think.

      1. Beth S Pier says:

Now that I’m retired I wear jeans most of the time…and finding a good fit can be difficult mostly because many cuts give me the dreaded muffin top!

  21. I love your hair today Tania. Great article on jeans. I too find it very difficult to find jeans that fit properly and just keep trying on lots until I find some.

    1. That is why I wanted to try some new brands. I find myself buying the same ones over and over, and there are a lot of different brands that I need to try.
