HOW TO WEAR THE SAME CLOTHING IN ALL OF THE SEASONS

All of us want to look nice, otherwise, why would you follow a fashion blog? Looking nice isn’t necessarily contingent on how much money you spend, but instead on your knowledge of how to make your clothing work to your best advantage. When you can wear the same clothing in all of the seasons, then you will get more “wears” for your investment.

Picking items for your wardrobe that can be worn in all of the seasons is one way to ensure that you get your money’s worth for your purchase. The easiest way to do that is by picking a sold color and then accessorizing to change the look. In THIS post, I started with a basic item, and in today’s post, I’ll be showing you some different accessories that change the look so that you can wear your basic item in multiple seasons.

When you think of all of the seasons, then you need to decide what colors you like for each one. I think of pastels for springtime, and blues, pinks, and yellows are colors that I will gravitate toward. In summer, I like bold bright colors, and I think of flowers blooming. Bright pinks, oranges, turquoise, and greens are my summertime colors.

And, when I think of the fall of the years, I started to think about jewel tones. Mustard, burgundy, deep teal, navy, rust, and olive are colors that come to mind. I also associated fall with football, falling leaves, and cooler weather, so this is when I start incorporating jackets and ankle booties. Finally, in winter, I think of Christmas, snowmen, cold temperatures, and the start of a New Year. Red and green might be Christmas colors, but I also love the icy blues that reminds me of icicles. It is time to grab your boots and heavy coats, plus, you might want to think about a pair of good snow boots.

Since fall is right around the corner, I wanted to start with that season first. If you don’t already own at least one denim jacket, then today is the day that you are going to purchase one. Lol! This is an accessory that you can wear with dresses, or with slacks. You can wear a denim jacket almost year-round, especially if you live in climates that are cooler. I have a couple of different denim jackets, and I am on the lookout for a red one. I saw one at Chico’s last year, but I wasn’t fast enough and it sold out. Now, I grieve over my missed opportunity. The jacket that I have on in this post is from Talbots, and it is a size 10, which fits me fine. If you plan on wearing heavier clothing such as sweaters under your jacket, then you might want to size up. Talbots also has this pale pink jacket that you might like since it would work in the fall with grays and browns, and then you could get lots of wear in the springtime also.

I bet a lot of you already own this blanket scarf, or maybe one that is similar. I still love wearing these scarves in the winter to keep me toasty warm, plus they add a lot of style to your look. I’ve had this scarf since I first started blogging (here) and five years later I am still pulling this out of my closet. There are a ton of ways to style this type of scarf, and I love playing with it to see what I can recreate. Here is a link to this scarf just in case you don’t already own this one, and I’ll link to some more colors that you might want to add to your collection.

I know that some of you feel like a scarf smothers you, so here is a look at this outfit without the scarf. I added a tan knit blazer from Talbots, that I bought a month or so ago. I love wearing tan, beige, fawn, caramel, etc., colors in the fall and into the winter months. This blazer has been on sale for a while, so the sizes are very limited. Never fear, I will give you a few more similar items that I like just as well if not more. Lol!

Spring is in the air when I look at this photo. I love the lemon yellow blazer, and the multi-colored scarf adds so much fun to the outfit. The buttercream yellow knit blazer is the same one as the tan one above, but it still has sizes available at this time. I will also suggest you think about the red version in this blazer since they are on sale for under $40.00! If you are wondering how the red would look, then check out this post here from last year. The Joie De Vivre sweater is also on sale that I wore with the red blazer, and it is under $25.00!
The scarf is an old one that I probably got from Cato Fashions, but I can’t be sure since I rip off the tags. Now is the perfect time to purchase a spring looking scarf, since most of them will be on sale. Here are a few that I like, and they are all 17.99 each.

You might recognize the Ruana from this post last week. It is amazing how different the Ruana looks over this navy outfit, verses the bright pink top. Adding a topper such as a Ruana/Kimono can change the look of an outfit dramatically, and no one would even realize that you are wearing the same dress that you wore previously. Ding, ding, ding!!! That is the whole idea! I’m wearing the S/M in this Floral Kimono, and it looks and fits great. Here are a few other Ruanas that I found, and all of them are on sale under $20.00!!! What are you waiting for???

Now, for the shoes! Ankle booties are the happening shoe for fall. They look super cute with dresses, and I love wearing them with skinny jeans or jeans that have been cuffed. This pair has been a favorite of mine for a long time, mostly because of the Fawn color. These faux-suede booties are still available online, but the sizes are very limited since they have been around for a long time.

Knee boots are my favorite shoes, especially in the winter. Although, Joe does get tired of seeing my wearing boots all of the time. Lol! He will just have to get used to it because I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Haha! These are a pair of boots that I bought last year from Vince Camuto. I love this pair, but I can’t find them anywhere to link to them. They were a style called, Nestle, so maybe you will have better luck than me. There is a pair VERY similar to these by the same brand called Derika. The Nestle pair said to size up, but the Derika says true to size. You might want to order two pairs and send the one back that doesn’t fit since shipping and returns are free.

These espadrille platform sandals are a pair that I bought from Target. I’ve worn these sandals a lot this summer, and I am thinking about ordering one of the other colors that these come in. These sandals also come in deep a caramel color and the other strap is leopard print. It is super cute and would look great this fall. I am wearing my usual size 9 in these shoes, and they fit me perfectly.

These yellow espadrille shoes are an old as the hills pair from Michael Kors. I’ve looked for a similar pair for a long time since mine is starting to look ragged. The closest thing that I’ve found that I like is this pair from Talbots, and they are on sale at a great price.

I know that this was a LONG post, but it is hard to described and link to four different outfits in one post without it going on forever. I hope you liked this post and please leave a comment on your thoughts. So, what do you think…are there things in your closet that you can wear in all of the seasons?

I love this post! You look fabulous in each outfit! I didn’t see where the dress was purchased. Can you share that information?
You have so many great ideas for one dress. It would make it simpler in traveling, when we get back to that part of our lives!
Hi Tania. I ordered the Talbots tan knit blazer It arrived today. Love, love, love it. I gambled on a petite because they didn’t have my size in a regular. I’m 5’4”, so right in between petite and regular. It fit great. Very happy with the color, fit, and material. I’ve been searching for a nice tan blazer for many years. Thanks.
