HOW TO WEAR PLAID WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE A MAN

The first thing that I think of when I think of a plaid shirt is a lumberjack wearing a flannel shirt. Are any of you picturing the Brawny man on a roll of paper towels? Yeah, me too, and that is not the look that I am wanting. So, on today’s blog, I’ll show you a feminine take on a plaid button-up shirt without showing you my muscles.

The material and the pattern does make a difference. You CAN still wear flannel, but it looks more feminine if the pattern is in purples, teals, pinks, etc. You can also make plaid look more feminine by making sure that you buy a fitted shirt. A shirt that hangs and bags, verses fitting your curves, will look more manly. If you own loose or baggy shirts, then tie them in a knot at your waist to look more feminine. Think Ellie Mae Clampett. Lol!

To give my look a more feminine vibe, I also chose to add my favorite blazer of the moment, this drape collar blazer in burgundy. This blazer is figure-flattering, and it helps to give me a waistline. Plus, the burgundy color of the blazer draws out the burgundy stripe in the plaid shirt. I am wearing a medium in this blazer, which fits me perfectly. I have linked to this blazer several times, and I noticed that the sizes are getting limited.

You might notice that this plaid shirt matches the plaid pants that I wore in this post. I love this plaid shirt because it looks festive, but not Christmasy. So, you could wear this shirt all year long, instead of having to put it away after Christmas. A lightweight shirt like this can be worn in the summer by rolling up the sleeves. I have noticed that the stores are very picked over since they had such large Black Friday sales that lasted almost the whole month of November. So, like the blazer, this shirt is very limited in size. I am wearing a large in this shirt, and I think that it fits me great.

I am wearing one of my favorite pair of earrings today, the AVI. This weekend only, Kendra Scott is having a 20% off sale on earrings. (some exclusions apply) These earrings are almost $20.00 off, and that is a great deal. All of the earrings below are on sale, and I have all of these and love each of them.

Pairing the plaid shirt with dress pants instead of with jeans gives the shirt a more feminine look. I am wearing more jeans these days, but I still want some dress pants in my closet. These black skinny bi-stretch ankle pants are polished looking, but they are very comfortable also. I am wearing my usual size 10 in these pants, and I think they run true to size. These pants are also available in navy and red, and both of those would be a good addition to your wardrobe.

I love how these pointy-toe heels look from the back. The shiny back and heel give these shoes a unique detail that sets them apart from other block heels. This is my first pair of chunky block heel dress shoes, and I actually like them. These faux suede shoes are on sale for 60% off, and that brings the price down to under $40.00!!! I am wearing my usual size 9 in these shoes, and they fit me perfectly.

My DIL was taking my photos the other day, and we decided to experiment with different poses. This was supposed to be me looking relaxed and sophisticated, but instead, I look like I have a headache. Lol! I watched one photographer that said you should create triangles in your photo for interest. See the triangles that each of my arms creates? Are you interested? Hahahaha!!!

Anyway, I hope that you have enjoyed today’s post and that you will tell all of your friends about my blog. For those of you who messaged me or left comments, I do feel much better. I had a sinus headache that was probably weather-related since it started raining soon after my headache set in.

In December, I am going to be giving away something each Monday on my blog. So, to enter, leave a comment about the Christmas gift you’ve received that was the biggest surprise. For me, it was probably the year when Joe bought me TWO pair of Hunter Boots. Lol! I didn’t expect him to do that.

The best gift I got was from my son Zach. He had a necklace made with the Latitude and Longitude of where my Mother’s ashes were sprinkled on a lake in Vermont. Could not stop from crying when I opened it and he told me what it was.

  2. The xmas before we married, my soon to be hubs knew that I admired the Lenox Butler’s Pantry china so he took me to the department store and told me to pick out what I wanted! Have loved it every single day. ❤️🎄 👰‍♀️ 🤵‍♂️

  3. Hmmm, my surprise gift would have to be when I was 15 my parents gave me this Quarter Horse I had been wanting. Money wasn’t plentiful back then so a surprise he was indeed!

My favorite unexpected Christmas gift was a hand-made doll named Susie. I was 5.5 years old. It was the first Christmas after my dad died and money for gifts was sparse. My mother sewed, stuffed and embroidered a face on Susie. I will never forget the joy that doll brought me on Christmas Day. It was years later that I learned of the many hours my mom spent creating my Susie doll.

My husband knows that music boxes are special to me. One year he found an old one at a garage sale. It has 2 penguins dancing. So sweet — both the thought and the actual music box!

  8. My favorite Christmas gift ever was a doll that my aunt gave me. It was hers as a child and I had always admired it. Soon after she passed away. I was very thankful.

  9. Our income is a lot different than the majority of the comments here LOL My surprise gift was from my darling husband who shopped and shopped until he found a coach bag he could afford for me. I loved that purse and wore it for years and years. I still carry the change purse today with any bag I carry.

  10. I love the creative pose with your arm above your head…you do NOT look like you have a headache! The most special gift I ever received was a microwave oven from my dad!! This was back when microwaves were about $500 and took up the entire kitchen practically!!!
. It was the first time he had ever bought me a gift and I will always remember it even though he is no longer with us….
