November is going to be a crazy busy month for me. There is always a lot going on during November because of buying Christmas presents, decorating, and Thanksgiving. As a blogger, November really gets crazy because of all of the sales and events like Black Friday that we have to cover. I promise to do my best to bring you great deals when I see them, and I’ve been doing gift guides to give you some ideas for presents. Fashion Blogger 50 Is Not Old is wearing a fall leaf motif sweater and a Shetland blazer with caramel corduroy pants and a calf hair tote

One of my favorite features of the blog is my Tuesday Try-On sessions. They probably take the longest to do since I have to change outfits, take loads of photos, and then do all of the links for each item.

In today’s session, I am showcasing mostly items from Talbots. My point of this session was to show you how you can mix and match your clothing choices to expand your wardrobe.

I will briefly describe each item, tell you how it feels, and how it fits me. I will give you the sizes that I am wearing, and hopefully, that will give you a better idea of how it would fit you.

Normally, I wear a size med/large or a size 10-12 in tops and jackets, a size 12 in dresses, a size 10 in pants and jeans, and a size 9 in shoes and boots. I am 5’6″ tall, and I weigh between 150-160 at any given time.

I hope you like all of these fall outfits; they are some of my favorites. Now, let’s start the show and see what I have for you today.

Y’all, it’s fall! Lol! This outfit is the photo that should be in the dictionary when you look up the word “fall.” It is beautiful, and the colors are spot-on for fall. I love all of the different shades of brown in this look and how well they go together. I love this spotted calf hair tote from Madewell! It looks almost like a cheetah print, and it has lots of room inside. The tote also has a shoulder strap that can be used or unclasped like I am wearing it today, and it is on sale for 40% off. I love this size, but there is also a slightly smaller version if this size is too large for you, and it is on sale for 60% off.

This Leaf Motif crewneck sweater is gorgeous. I have never been a huge fan of crewnecks, but this one is deeper and wider than most. The embroidered leaf pattern makes a statement! It is so cute and chic at the same time. I love the speckled background and how soft and lightweight the sweater feels. I am wearing a medium, and it fits me perfectly!

Adding layers and depth to an outfit is what makes a look interesting. All of the browns in this look aren’t matchy-matchy, but they still flow well together.

I love this classic Shetland blazer! This blazer looks like something you would see people wearing on a “fox-hunt,” or at least that is what I see in my mind. It is Shetland wool in a traditional herringbone weave, and it is in a classic and timeless style. I call this an investment wardrobe item since it is something that you can keep and wear for years to come. I am wearing a size 10 in the blazer, and it fits me perfectly, even over the sweater.

I am a big fan of wearing corduroy in the fall and winter months. There is something about the feel of corduroy and the sound that it makes when you walk that I love. If my thighs didn’t rub together when I walked, it wouldn’t make that sound. Lol! Anyway, these corduroy jeggings fit me great! Normally, when I see the word jeggings, it means that they are tight, and I need to size up. However, I’ve found that I need to size down to get the best fit in Talbots jeans and pants. So, I am wearing an 8 in these, and that is the perfect size for me. These jeggings also are available in Petite and Plus sizes.

The next few outfits will show you how to mix and match to layer your outfits even more. The basic bones of these outfits are going to be this button-up shirt and corduroy pants.

The Perfect Shirt is the name, and they might have named it correctly. This shirt is a no-iron fabric (woohoo), and it is fitted for a flattering silhouette. I love the blue, purple, and yellow paisley design of the shirt, and I think this will be great to wear all year round. All you have to do is roll up the sleeves for spring and summer since the colors will go great for those months also. I am wearing a size 10 in this shirt, and it fits me “perfect”ly. Lol!

A smaller handbag seems to be the trend this year. This is something that I have been trying to get used to since I love carrying everything but the kitchen sink around with me. I have gotten used to carrying a medium-sized bag, but I am still a work in progress when it comes to a small bag. However, I do like a crossbody bag’s convenience, and I don’t worry about losing my bag when I carry one. This pebbled leather Tory Burch crossbody has a removable shoulder strap so that you can carry this as a clutch for a dressier event.

I already own a black pair of these stretch corduroy straight-leg pants, and now I’ve added Portobello to my wardrobe. This neutral color is one that I LOVE! I pick this color time after time when it comes to clothing and shoes because it is versatile. These pants have just enough stretch to help them to fit tightly, but not confining. I am wearing a size 8 in these pants, and they are a great fit!

The pointy toe ankle boots are by Marc Fisher. That is a brand that I’ve worn for years, and they have never disappointed me in the quality of their shoes and boots. The color of these boots is Cloud Suede, and I am wearing my normal size 9, which fits perfectly.

Here is an example of adding layers and dimension to an outfit. Adding just a few items to your look can really make the difference. You can start with jewelry, and then add a blazer, cardigan, or a sweater to get a whole different look.

The shirt and pants alone are nice but adding this double-breasted corduroy blazer and rich colored leather bucket bag to the look takes it up several notches. This blazer is a classic double-breast style, and the corduroy material is very lush looking. The jacket comes in rose color also, but I am partial to this cool blue color. I am wearing a size 10 in the blazer, and it fits great!

Here is a close up of the bucket bag. The straps are adjustable, and the bag features a zip closure. This is a great medium-sized handbag, and it will carry almost everything that you need. It might not be big enough for the kitchen sink, but you don’t really need to carry a sink around anyway. Lol!

Every year I try to buy one or two cashmere sweaters to add to my growing collection. Cashmere is so soft, and I love feeling it against my skin. I’ve seen that they have cashmere tee shirts now, but I’ve not gotten one yet. If you have one, please comment on what you think about them.

I love this one because it is a tiny bit different from the other styles that I own. It is a cocoon style sweater with a mock neckline. The sweater is generously sized, so you don’t have to worry about it being clingy or showing your lumps and bumps. Also, you can handwash this sweater and lay flat to dry. I am wearing a medium in the sweater, and you can see that it is plenty roomy. The sweater also is available in black and a pretty blue color, so be sure to also. Check those out.

Once again, this outfit started with the button-up shirt and corduroy pants. Then, I decided to add another layer to the outfit, which completely changed the look.

A cable-knit design gets me every time! I am a huge fan of this classic and timeless design, and I can’t get enough of the look. The cowl neck and the side buttons are two design elements that add even more appeal to this sweater. I wore the sweater over the top of my button-down, but you can also wear this by itself. It is soft and comfy and plenty roomy. I am wearing a medium, and it fits me perfectly! I am wearing the blue version of this cowl cable knit sweater, but it also is available in tan and gray.

  1. Hi, Thank you for the inspiration of combining different colors, dressy jackets with jeans, etc. to re-shop what I have to make an outfit that is right for the occasion and me!

    1. I’ve got a similar post that will be on tomorrow’s post.

  2. Kathleen McDermott says:

Thank you the serious time and effort you put into your blog. I follow every post. Giving your figure stats and sizes worn is very helpful, not to mention you have excellent style. I linked to Walmart from your earlier post and purchased 3 of the Free Assembly bootcuts, 2 of their high waist skinnies and both plaids in the blazer, plus their corduroy jacket. Lots of good finds at Walmart. Love their T&T denim jackets and jeggings. Love Talbots too – have shopped there for decades

  3. I’m loving the gray and caramel beige together. So pretty. I know that corduroy pants are so in, as a lady with ample thighs I tried some on and that swish swish sound of the corduroy rubbing together took me back to childhood. So not for me sadly. Even though I am not a great fan of the leaves on the nice sweater, I did really like it under a blazer, it added some interest but not so in your face design. I know and appreciate that putting on clothes and taking photos, editing and posting are lots of work, but they are some of my favorite posts. It helps so much to see clothes on real people, not just 20 something models. Even if we have different body shapes and sizes, we can see how it works for women of varied ages, fashion styles and lifestyles. So thank you!

    1. KatMar, these posts do take a ton of time putting them together. I have to order the clothing in, and then try to come up with outfits, take photos, edit photos, and write the post and find the links. But, I do understand how it is helpful to see clothing on someone close in age. I am glad that you like the posts.

  4. Stephanie says:

Love all your styling tips. Thanks!

  5. Love these options! Disappointed that the corduroy jeggings are mostly sold out, though.

    1. I’ve noticed that more and more when I share clothing that they are selling out. I don’t know if you gurls are buying things quickly or if the stores just don’t have a lot of inventory.

  6. I love your blog! You show such interesting ideas,…and lots of fun ways to wear things! Thank you for all you do!

    1. Thanks, Diane. I love trying on clothing!

  7. Teresa Hill says:
