How to Look Fashionable as You Age
This post is courtesy of my mom! I called her last week to talk about blog topics and How To Look Fashionable as You Age was the first thing she said. And she said it emphatically, lol. Throughout the week she kept emailing me ideas. “Don’t forget to find me a walking stick. A CUTE walking stick.” Mom, I’ve done my best!
How to Look Fashionable as You Age – Reading Glasses
CCVOO 5 Pack Blue Light Blocking Reading Glasses
You do NOT have to look like the librarian from your 1950s elementary school! Sure, the choices for reading glasses used to be limited. Not anymore! These are blue light blocking, and come with 5 different shades of frames. I love the larger lenses! No peering over your nose and scolding kids to “shhh” in these babies!
AMOMOMA Trendy TR90 Oversized Blue Light Reading Glasses Women
You have to love this pair of blue light-blocking glasses in a chic cat-eye shape! These come in a variety of colors so if you’re not a fan of these, no worries. They have a 4.5 star rating and are just $26 dollars!
How to Look Fashionable as You Age – Walking Shoes
Hey Dude Women’s Wendy Chambray
I know that comfort is queen as we get older, and walking shoes are a must-have. HOWEVER, you don’t have to wear walking shoes that scream octagenarian! These are Hey Dude shoes, and they are VERY popular right now. I brought my mom a cool pair of leopard print ones on my last visit, and she loved them. They also make them in men’s in case you want to up the style game of your significant other. 🙂
Vionic is a GREAT brand for people with foot issues, and nothing says that walking shoes have to be sneakers. These flats are very chic and would go with so many things – both dressy and casual. These have a suede upper and come in black, navy, grey, and toffee. I think the toffee color will be great for fall!
How to Look Fashionable as You Age – Pants
Jeggings are a great option for women who want to look fashionable but don’t want to worry about buttons and zippers. These come in all sorts of cute colors and washes, and they are only $20 dollars!
NIMIN Womens Casual Loose Pants Comfy Cropped Work Pants with Pockets
There are times when you need to wear dress pants, but there’s no reason to pull on thick, knit basic and boring trousers! I love the high waist and cute fake buttons on these. These are pull-on, cotton and spandex, and have POCKETS! If you like them, good news! They come in a lot of different colors, too.
How to Look Fashionable as You Age – Walking Stick
Wooden Vintage Design Victoria Walking Stick Silver Cane Beautiful Brass Handle Cane
Sometimes you just need a little help with balance. This elegant walking stick looks like something right out of a Jane Austen novel! The reviews claim that it’s sturdy, which is a good thing for a walking stick! Plus, it looks great for poking people. lol
Elegant Pretty Swallow Bird White Wood Carved Walking Stick Cane
This has a more traditional “cane” shape, but I love the carved swallow handle. It turns an everyday item into a work of art. These are individually carved so each one is unique! This is made with a solid wood shaft & a rubber tip. The walking stick can be separated into 2 parts for portability.
I can tell you now that my mom is not going to like this, but if you need a solid cane, get a solid cane. Don’t let vanity stop you from being safe! I think this is very pretty and feminine, and it has a nice-sized foot pad.
How to Look Fashionable as You Age – Staying Warm
FURTALK Women’s Winter Scarf Cashmere Feel Pashmina Shawl
On one of my mother’s phone calls, she said “Include something for staying warm. I’ve been wearing my sweater all day!” Yes, it’s July and 90 degrees, but I get it. Still, there’s no reason you can’t look fashionable while you’re staying warm. I love this Pashmina shawl. It comes in several colors and can be worn as a shawl, or tied around your neck as an oversized scarf.
AUTOMET Women’s Casual Plaid Shacket Button Down Long Sleeve Shirt
Why wear a sweater when you can wear a shacket?! These are SO warm and SO in style. The only issue with wearing a cute shacket is that there’s a great chance your granddaughter will steal it from you.
How to Look Fashionable as You Age – Adaptive Clothing
Tommy Hilfiger Women’s Adaptive Ruffle Shirt with Magnetic Closure
I have to hand it to Tommy Hilfiger. He’s got several items on Amazon in the “adaptive clothing” space. This may look like a traditional button-down, but the buttons are fake. These actually close together with magnets! Perfect for people who have trouble dealing with small buttons.
Tommy Hilfiger Women’s Adaptive Denim Dress with Magnetic Closure
How cute is this dress?! This is absolutely fashionable, yet part of the same adaptive line, and has magnetic closures instead of buttons. This is just so cute and would be perfect for fall.
How to Look Fashionable as You Age – Watches
This was the one specific item that my mom said I HAD to include. I gave her an Apple watch a few months ago, and she LOVES it. It didn’t take her long at all to figure it out, and we love that it has fall detection on it. She can see her messages, track her sleep, take calls, and loves that she can get in touch with someone from anywhere. She has the cellular and wifi version.
I think a watch is always a great fashion accessory, but I understand that it can be hard to see tiny numbers as we age. This watch from Guess has a great face with oversize numbers. If you have issues with a typical buckle band, you can also get this with a quick release.
How to Look Fashionable as You Age – Scarfs
MEISEE 100% Mulberry Silk Scarfs Small Square Scarf
A scarf is a nice way to keep warm, and it’s actually quite easy to find cute ones! I love this 100% silk scarf. It’s the perfect size for tying around your neck and tucking into a shirt. Everyone will think you’re fashionable. You’ll be the only one that knows you are just trying to keep your neck warm!
FINIZO Women’s Scarves Lady Light Soft Fashion Solid Scarf Wrap Shawl for All Season
If you need something a little more robust, this scarf covers a bit more real estate. It’s a great option in between the smaller scarf above and the shawl. Of course, it comes in a number of different patterns and is under $20 dollars!
How to Look Fashionable as You Age – Miscellaneous
There were two more things my mother as me to find. A pretty heating pad and ice packs!
I’m not sure if this is what she meant, but I couldn’t resist! It says it’s for menstrual cramps OR neck and shoulder relief. I would use it for my neck, and let it look like I have a cat on my shoulders. But, I love that when you put it on your lap, it looks like you’re petting a cat! How fun is that?
I’m not sure that there’s a way to make ice packs fashionable, but these are pretty! The description mentions ice packs or using these for hot water. They are reusable, with no spill tops, and only $15 dollars!
Well, gurls. Let me know if I helped you find something fashionable and functional! I can promise you my mother will! lol.

Verse Of The Day
Luke 1:37
For no word from God will ever fail.”
I was hoping you might throw in suggestions for a 50th High School Reunion. It’s to be a casual affair… I am 68, 5’4″, 145 lbs, salt and pepper hair and trying to stay stylish.
I was thinking high waisted, dark wash straight legs and a bright pink paisley silky blouse. Perhaps black booties (event is mid-September near Seattle) Your thoughts?
Margaret, I like your style! That sounds like a great outfit for a HS reunion.
Thanks for this post! I just turned 66 – I don’t feel old but I know there are certain things I don’t want to wear anymore. I loved the options for the 2 different types of pants.
Very thoughtful post. I got a big taste of what it’s like to be/appear older when I had my knees replaced at a fairly young age due to a congenital condition and had to depend on a walker and then a cane. We all still want to be cute and feel good about ourselves. Thanks, Tania!
Great ideas! Your mom did a great job inspiring you. These are great gift ideas for our sassy senior moms! Thanks for researching this area.😀
I like these ideas. Also would like one on people who have to wear glasses all the time please.
Have a great day!
Thanks be to God I don’t need any of that yet. I’m 69 and in good shape but you never know about accidents and sickness. Thanks for the the options out there. I love the Anne Klein watches and the jean dress. I wear tortoise regular glasses because I got tired of reading glasses taking them off and on plus loosing them too.
I suggest more stylish shoes in the 2 to 2.5 inch range. I can handle 3 inch but 2 inch is more comfortable. Right now I need a 3 inch comfort boot or shoe for fall and winter. My wide leg Loft jeans are a tiny bit long on me. I’m going to wear them mostly in the fall and winter so I need a closed toe shoe.
Great idea for a post! Thank your mom. Idea, fit-over sunglasses, cute ones!
Kudos to Tommy Hilfiger for designing stylish adaptive clothing…..and to you for telling us about it!!!
Thanks to you and your mom.for this post! At 67, I too want to look fashionable not old and you gave us some great options. I already have 2 pairs of Hey Dudes shoes and I am definitely ordering the casual pants!
Tania, I hardly know where to begin! So many great ideas! I love that you are helping your mom stay on trend. Hope you post a picture of her in the future styling her new looks! The canes bring back happy memories of my great-grandmother with her ivory handled one. Thanks so much for all the hard work you do to bring us these wonderful products.🙂
Great post. Never knew about the adaptive clothing with the snaps. Fantastic idea for people.
Really good post Tania. Thanks.
What a great post .. kudos to your mom for suggesting it! I just bought my aunt who’s in a nursing home an adaptive clothing outfit from a company called Joe & Bella’s. I didn’t know about Tommy H’s line & will check it out. Thanks!
This is a very thoughtful post to do, Tania and Tania’s Mom! Thank you. I have pictures of my grandmothers when they were only in their 60s—well, I was going to say they look like women in their 90s today, but today’s 90-year-olds don’t dress like that! Women didn’t have as many options back then, though, either. Another memory: One day when it was ice cold, a woman had the nerve to be the first woman to wear slacks to church, and fashion never looked back there! Thank goodness, and kudos to that woman for being brave and defying the dictates of those times!
If I needed a walking stick (which I love this name verses a “cane”) I would like something like the purple one but I’d want it to be solid not portable. That one has pizazz and bling where the wooden ones with medal handle looks masculine to me (just my opinion) and then have one in maybe Navy because it’s a neutral color and goes with more………if they can’t be found then that’s the business to start 🙂
Very nice post. Great ideas – have added several to my Amazon cart. LOL
Love your family and Joe stories. Best,
