HOW TO BE UNIQUE
Do you ever have a day where you feel like you could walk on water? Yesterday was a day where I felt like I ate a bucket full of ice cream, like I won a lottery, and like I saw a Unicorn talking to a Leprechaun at the end of a rainbow. That day I was in such a good mood and I felt great. I felt love and I felt blessed. It was an amazing feeling but it was fleeting.
Life can be that way sometimes. You are up one minute and literally the next minute you feel like the rug just got yanked out from under you. None of my drama yesterday was life-threatening and no one is sick and for that, I am truly grateful. I had someone say something to me that crushed me and made me feel like I was not good enough. Wow! That events like that take a few minutes to sink in. I think that I was in shock at first and then a little mad. Finally, after talking to some friends, I came to realize that it really was not about “me” and I was able to put it aside and move on. Here is the thing, we can’t control everything and we can’t be everything to everybody. That is a hard lesson and one that stings when it happens, especially to a people pleaser like me. In the end, I fumed for a little while, felt like crying for a little while, vented for a little while, and then I acted like Taylor Swift and turned up the music and proceeded to “Shake It Off!”
This is a simple outfit and one that you can grab from your closet. The pieces might not be exactly the same but the overall effect. This is a top, a vest, and a pair of ankle jeans. The thing that makes this outfit stand out is the unique details on each of those items. So, let’s start with this mustard colored halter top that I have on today. I bought this halter top while I was in Alaska last July. I love the color, and I love the hemline, however, this is not my favorite style of neckline. They say that halter tops are flattering for most body types but that those who are chesty might have more problems. The unique detail on this top is the beautiful lace hemline. Remember, when you are out shopping look for items with details that make it stand out from the ordinary. That can be the fit, the print, or the material, or in some cases, a mixture of all of these things.
I chose the Constance necklace today for a couple of reasons. I liked the fabric strips which mimicked the fringe on the jeans and also because one of the fabric strips has this mustard color in it. I liked how the navy in the necklace popped off of the mustard top but still matched the color family of the vest. Accessories are what ties your individual outfit items together. The royal blue bead Tasha bracelet was perfect for this outfit also because of the mustard tassel that is attached. The Misha earrings are 2.5″ and have a design that is almost Asian in my opinion. I chose the Misha to stay with the gold in the necklace but I didn’t want it to compete with the necklace. This earring is not the huge statement earring like some others I have worn in the past. It is getting that time of the year when Plunder is getting ready to discontinue a lot of pieces to make room for the new fall and winter collection. If you would like a list of the retiring pieces then just let me know and I will email you the list. If you wish to make a purchase then go to www.plunderdesign.com/taniastephens and pick a party in my name.
I am sure that you can figure out what the unique design is on these jeans. I LOVE this fringe looking hem!!! Talk about making a statement that says that you are still young, relevant, and trendy, these jeans will scream that to everyone you meet. Do not think that you are too old for these jeans. If you like the look then feel free to wear what you want. If you don’t like the look then feel free to pick a different pair of jeans in a style that you do like. This pair is by NYDJ and they feel tight when you put them on but this pair will stretch as you wear them. I am wearing my normal size 10 and they were tight at first but within 5 minutes they felt fine. They are made for a flattering fit with NYDJ’s famous lift-tuck technology that slims from within.
The vest ties all the pieces together plus it helps balance out the halter top. I don’t think that I look the best in a halter style because of the proportion of my shoulders. The vest helps to hide that fact and it still shows my arms. I could have chosen a cardigan but I wanted to do something different today. This is the same vest that I wore here which shows you how you can wear the same item in different ways.

It’s sad that people don’t follow the golden rule. Treat others the way you would want to be treated. Also if you have nothing nice to say just don’t say anything at all. I’ve followed your blog for a while. I enjoy your comments about yourself and your family. You always wear cute outfits that encourage us over 50 girls that we still got it.
This really hit home today. Whether or not it’s someone you know and see all the time, it’s still a “Did you just say that?” moment. Once I take it in, I end up feeling sorry for that person because I figure they a. are classless, b. clueless, and c. obviously have a personality disorder. Beyond that, I’ll go out and get a smoothie or something and thank my lucky stars that I’m not like them.
Your Sunday blog speaks to a lot of people. I think the devil may have used this person to try and bring you down. He will use any resource he can. Give him a black eye and continue your good work. I look forward to reading your blog every day—especially Sunday.
I’m sorry that someone hurt you, Tania. When that happens to me I start wondering if there’s some truth in it and I try to ask the Lord if there’s something that I need to change. It’s hard for me to shake things like that off but that’s all we can do. Please know that you are an inspiration to SO many people! Don’t let anyone tell you any different! You are loved!
Cute outfit today.
Sweet Tania love this outfit! I too take everything someone says to heart. I fume for a few hours then try to put it all in prospective. Usually I make more of something than it really is. You are a beautiful person and I can’t imagine anyone saying anything bad of you.
What a fun outfit! And yes to shake it off!☺
I will never understand why women are so ugly to each other. Keep up the good work, Tania!
Me either, Dara. We should be lifting each other up every chance we get. We don’t have to agree on everything but we can agree to disagree with grace and class.
It is so hard to be on the end of a negative comment. My daughter and I are both people pleasers and planning her wedding we have encountered this. She finally exploded the other day, poor thing, so we talked it out and realized that this is her wedding and we have done a darn good job so far. Some people need to think before they speak.
I am so happy that you moved on with your day and your friends were there to support you. I do not know you personally, but you are a bundle of joy and always have a smile. Stay strong!
