HOW DO YOU ADD A POP OF COLOR TO AN OUTFIT
.
The other day on the blog, I did a post about ways to look your best. The post had some of the tips and tricks that I use for finding ways to look better in my clothing. Everybody has problem areas, and figuring out how to dress to minimize those areas will help you feel better about your look. Today’s blog is along those same lines, and I’ll be using a pop of color and a cardigan to achieve my goal.

I mentioned in my earlier post that my sister struggles to dress her body type. We are built differently in that I am like a ruler or a banana, and she says that she is an apple. Several of you gurls mentioned that it would be fun to have her make a guest appearance on the blog, and I would love that! The biggest problem is that I live in Virginia, and she lives in Georgia, which poses an issue. We are talking, though, and we might look at buying an outfit and seeing how it looks on each of us. What do you think?
I’ve had this cotton poplin button-up shirt for a while, and I’ve never worn it. I tend to wear mostly sweaters in the winter, but a shirt like this will work for all four seasons. It is a classic button-up design with a button placket, chest pocket, and buttons at the cuffs.
I love a button-up shirt because it is versatile and can be worn as a jacket, under a sweater, tied at the waist, tucked, untucked, and looks great with a skirt or jeans. This shirt has a black background with white funky dots that have a shadow of camel. I loved the print, but I thought that it needed something, so I added a pop of color, and I really like the look. I am wearing a large in the top, and it fits good, maybe a little loose, but that is better than being tight.
Dark rinse jeans look so nice and polished. They are more dressy than medium or light wash jeans, and a dark rinse is what you should choose if you are wearing jeans to a dressy/casual occasion. I love the skinny flare cut of these jeans, and they fit nicely. They have a sewn-in panel in the tummy region to help smooth the midsection, which is a bonus.
I am wearing my usual size 10 in these jeans, so I would say they run true to size. The length is a tad bit long at 33″, so take that into consideration. I prefer my jeans on the longer side to wear heels, and just in case they shrink in the wash.
The major components of my outfit, the shirt and pants, are neutral in color. The pants are dark, and the top has a dark background. I could have chosen to add a pop of color with a handbag, but I decided to stay in the outfit’s dark range instead. But, don’t shy away from brightly colored handbags as a way to add interest to your look. Here is a post showing how I used a bright pink handbag for the pop of color.
You’ve seen me carry this Vince Camuto lambskin leather handbag for a while, and it is because I love the feel of the bag, the size of the bag, and the texture of the bag. I even like the way that this bag smells. Lol! This bag is not cheap, it is a great quality bag, and it was worth the investment. It is Vince Camuto’s best seller for a reason, and I will carry this bag for YEARS. It does come in several other colors, and it is also available on easy pay, so make sure to take advantage of the 5 easy payments.
Accessories are also a great way to add a pop of color. You might not want a large block of color, but a small pop still gets you the look and draws the eye. This Davis multi-strand necklace is one of my favorite necklaces from Kendra Scott. It is so versatile, and I wear it often in different ways. Each chain can unclasp from the necklace, so you might see me wearing this with only the two gold chains or even with only one chain. I love that I can wear it over and over, and it looks like I am wearing a different necklace each time.
My earrings are a statement pair called KAIA. They are large but not heavy. I like how they look and feel, and the best thing, I found them at a great price. But, guess what, the sale ends TONIGHT, so don’t think about this very long. They are cheaper here than on the Kendra Scott website!
This bright blue long cardigan has a relaxed, cozy feel to it, and it sure packs a punch in the statement department. You can’t miss this pop of color; in fact, this is more like a BANG of color. I still love neutrals, but adding a pop of color will change the look. Don’t you think it takes it to a whole new level? I do!
This cardigan is limited in size and colors. I ordered a medium, and it is way too big for me. It doesn’t look too big because I have it pinned in the back, but this will have to go back for a small. If you are lucky enough to get your size, you will love the feel of the cardigan. It is extremely soft, fuzzy, and has a lot of stretch in the material. It is under $30.00, so good luck finding your size.

I would love to see a sisters post! I have four sisters and we are all so different, bodies and personalities! Love the blue in today’s post!
Love your outfit and would love to see your sister!
I am similar to your shape and size but my sisters are very different from me. Please have you sister style a few outfits. I recommend you to everyone.
Sometimes…I see your post and I want everything! This is one of them. Love the electric blue color cardigan and I just bought the necklace and earrings! Thanks Tania. The pop of color is beautiful. You look terrific.
Yes! That would be so much fun to see you and your sister in the same outfit. Hope you can do it!
I would definitely like to see you and your sister wearing the same outfits, with both of you giving your opinion of the outfit on your body type. And thank you for showing the cobalt blue cardigan with black.
I would love to see your sister in your blog. It is always good to see how the same outfit looks on different body styles. Another suggestion would be that each of you pick an outfit that you love for your body type and tell us why you like it and then switch outfits so we could see how it looks on the other.
I would love to see you and your sister trying the same outfits. I am an apple also! It is frustrating,…but could be worse–I know. Ha ha ha. I am large busted as well–36 G, ugh,….had breast cancer and one breast is much smaller now, but I’m alive so I put in the breast form and go on about my day, praising God for being with me and giving me life. I love that verse for today,…about not fearing…I am going for a CT scan Wednesday to check about a possible recurrence of the breast cancer, and just coming up on 19 year survivor–yay me.
Praying for you, Diane
Yes please do posts with your sister! if you have the same basic outfit (or theme like monochromatic), you can then show how to tailor it to flatter your different body types. Can’t wait to see the results! It would be an awesome regular feature.
Yes, sis should join in! Absolutely! Keep that on the “Must do” board so when things get better in the world that can happen! We’d all love it!
What a great color-pairing. Dark jeans are a perfect for a dressy look. I am bummed the L in the blouse is sold out. M is a final sale soI don’t want to risk it. The sister idea would be fun to see!
