HOW AND WHY WE SHOULD SHARE THE GOOD

Do you have “that one friend” who always makes you feel good? Whenever your day is not going well, you can call on that friend to brighten your day? My friend is Kim, and I know that after I talk to her for a little while, my day will get so much better. Here is why…

Kim has a saying that she puts on a lot of her social media posts. It is, “share the good, people…share the good.” There is so much negativity in this world, especially on social media, that we can soon go down a rabbit hole if we aren’t careful. We can start thinking that the world is a horrible place, that everyone is mean and corrupt, and that there aren’t any good people left in this world.

It isn’t that the world is a horrible place, or that everyone is mean and corrupt, it is that we tend to focus on the negative instead of the positive. There are plenty of terrible things going on in the world, but I don’t have to focus only on them.

Do you know why we only hear are the negative things happening in the world, it sells. It sells newspapers, television shows get more views, and it makes more money for those in that arena. There are plenty of good and uplifting stories, but you hardly hear about those because they won’t get the ratings that the networks need.

Did you ever think about why you never hear “gossip” that is something good? When people are gossiping, they aren’t usually talking about what a wonderful mother someone is. You hardly ever hear gossip about a husband that cooked his wife supper because she was too tired from a long day at work. Instead, we hear about someone cheating on their spouse, about someone taking drugs, or about someone who is going to jail.

What is wrong with us humans that we seem to crave and need the negative instead of the positive? I’m sure that a psychologist would have some kind of explanation about the way our brain functions. All I know is that 100 people can tell you that you are beautiful, but if one person tells you that you are ugly, the ugly comment will be the one that plays over and over again in your brain.

1 Peter 3:9

Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.

Kim has been a blessing to me and to others. She tries to spread the good and highlight the positive things in the world. Isn’t that how we are all supposed to be? The other day, I watched my sister make a young girl’s day when we were checking out from Target. She told the young girl that “she was beautiful.” Those 3 little words might not have meant much to the girl, or they could have meant the world to her. You never know how a kind word can change a person’s day.

There are times when we get so caught up in our own world that we forget to look around us and “see” others. When the person checking us out is slow, we can start getting frustrated instead of wondering if the person has had a long grueling day. Maybe a kind word from us would be a blessing to that person.

Ephesians 4:29

29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

So, today, Kim and I challenge you to share the good. Be a blessing to someone, and make someone’s day. Share the good, people…share the good!

To God Goes The Glory!

Have A Blessed Day!

  8. I want to start right now. Sharing the good. All 3 of my boys are sick. A simple cold of running nose and sore throat. One is already better and was helping the one who was hit worse. Warms my heart to see my boys even when sick thinking of others.

    1. Your comments are so true. I think people love to hear gossip to make their lives seem better. It happens in all circles, even in rural settings.

I agree we need to share good news and positivity. How wonderful that your sister told a little girl “she was beautuful”! A positive message for that girl indeed. Amen.
