HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING FOR ME LATELY

I can’t remember the details of a story that I heard years and years ago, but the message of the story has always stuck with me. According to my memory, the story went something like this: A man was running for a public office, and he was out campaigning before the election. He stopped at a house where he knew a gentleman inside, and he began asking for the man’s vote. The gentleman listened to his speech, but afterward, he told the man that he wouldn’t be voting for him. The candidate was shocked! “What?” “I can’t believe that you aren’t going to be voting for me.” “I loaned you the money for your first car.” “I introduced you to your wife.” “I saved your life when we were in the Army.” “And I am the godfather of your children!” The man said, “yes, you are right. You did all of those things for me. BUT what have you done anything for me lately?”

How many of us are guilty of thinking like this? We easily forget what has been done for us in the past, and only want to know what you can do for us now.

I have read the story of how the Lord led the Israelites out of Egypt. I have often wondered how the Israelites could turn their backs on the Lord time and time again. How could they have forgotten the ten plagues, the first Passover, the parting of the Red Sea, and the Ten Commandments?

You would think that seeing the plagues, the Passover, and the parting of the Red Sea would be enough to make you a believer forever. But, like the earlier gentleman, the Israelites were soon asking, “but what have you done for me lately?”

John 14:15-16

15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—

2 Samuel 7:28

28 Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.

The Lord has been with us in the past, and he will be with us in the future. His love endures FOREVER! His promises will never be broken.

Have A Blessed Day!

  1. Thank you for this. I am a devoted Catholic and know you can even become accustomed to the awful wonderful crucifix.
I have to always remember the life changing whispered answer to my screaming cussing prayer 32 years ago. Jesus does everything for me every minute but this is my testimony I recall often, so I don’t get complacent.

  3. Just the fact that God thought we were were worth redeeming should be enough to keep us faithful to him but no, we have be disrespectful and unbelieving and think only about ourselves. That’s me right there. I have got to do better. WWJD is still a thing we should ask ourselves and not just wear on a Tee shirt.
