FLORAL PRINTS ARE TRENDING AND HERES HOW TO WEAR THEM
Be careful what you say because you might have to eat those words one day. For me, the words that I had to eat were, “I hate florals, and I’ll never wear them.” Those words were hard for me to choke down, but they tasted pretty good. Since florals are trending, I decided to talk about ways you can wear this trend.
I am not sure that “trend” is the correct word for a floral pattern since florals never really seem to go out of style. But, they are really having a moment this spring. I do have a couple of suggestions and tips for you to help you decide what type of print and product would work best for you.
Size Matters:
The general rule of thumb is to keep the size of the floral pattern in proportion with your body. In other words, if you are petite, then you want to choose smaller prints. If you are a plus-size woman, then you can choose larger prints and get by with it easier.
Length Matters:
If you are petite, then you will want to show more leg in dresses to help you look taller. Tall ladies can wear maxis easier, but a petite lady can wear them easier if they are a solid color.
Event Matters:
Where you wear your clothing depends on what type of florals you wear. If you are going to a ballgame, then you might want to wear florals that are cotton or linen. If you are going on a date night or a dressy event, then you might choose chiffon or silk.
Some florals need to be the star of the outfit. They are usually big and bold, and you don’t want to take away their spotlight. Today’s floral print is more delicate and feminine, so adding the orchid Mac trench enhanced the print. The Mac might be the star, but the floral top plays a great supporting role.
I am wearing a large in the trench, and the fit is great. It is large enough that I will be able to add layers without it feeling constrained. This orchid color is FABULOUS, and I’ll be wearing this in the spring, summer, and possibly the fall.
You can see how the floral v-neck blouse pops off of the orchid lining of the trench. I love this look!!!
The floral blouse is fabulous on its own, and can easily be the star of any outfit. The print is very feminine looking, and the ruffles at the neckline add to the romantic look. I love the elbow-length sleeves also, and the gathering creates a puff sleeve that ends with a ruffle.
This blouse also comes in three other prints, but this beautiful pink is the one that spoke to me. I am wearing a size medium top, and it fits me great. BTW, the blouse feels like chiffon, and the body of the blouse is lined so that it is not see-through.
My jewelry is delicate to match the size of the print. I added the Rylan hoop earrings, the Natalie hinged bangle bracelet, and my Shine necklace.
Yes, these are the same white jeans that I had on in yesterday’s post. Lol! If you are looking for more inspiration on what to wear with white pants, then be sure to check out that post. The photos were taken about a week apart, but they hit the blog back to back. This goes to show you that I wear these white jeans a lot!
My white pants are the No Stain Girlfriend crops from Chico’s. Someone commented that these pants really are great for water-based stains. I haven’t had any experience with stains on the pants yet, so I was glad to see the comment. I am wearing a size 1 in the pants also, and they are loose-fitting, but not baggy. When wearing white pants, that is the look that I go for.
My cork heels are several years old and I LOVE them. They are the perfect neutral shoe, and they look great with everything. I haven’t worn them lately on the blog because I couldn’t find any online for you. BUT, I found several different styles today, so I quickly grabbed them to style for you. Check these out, but don’t wait long because this style of shoe sells out very quickly.

Very pretty top and trench coat. I love florals. There are so many beautiful combinations of colors available on the market. I don’t subscribe to the “rule of thumb” about the size of the print. I’m petite, but don’t usually like the real small florals. To me the smaller prints are more old fashioned, which is a look I don’t care for. I like medium sized floral prints best.
This print on you looks so cute and feminine. I would buy that one if I needed it. The trench is sold out in my size. Bummer!
Nancy, you are lucky to be able to wear the larger prints. There are only a few petite people that I know of who can do that.
I’ll admit I don’t have florals in my closet. I have stripes, dots, plaids, checks, geo prints, graphic tees but for some reason I avoid florals, truth is I think they are really pretty. I’m will buy some this year. Cute top. I’ll pass on the trench because I have two. Pretty color though.
I had all kinds of prints also, but I never liked florals. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Oh my gosh, your post reminded me of the movie, “The Devil Wears Prada,” when Miranda says, “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” Lol made me chuckle:) Thank you!
Lol! That is hilarious! I had forgotten about that quote.
Tania-
Thanks for this post and the advice about the size of the floral prints. I have been trying to add color and prints to my wardrobe. It would be nice to have a couple of floral printed items as accents to my wardrobe! I LOVE that Gibson blouse!
I can’t believe that I hated florals for so long. Lol!
I have been looking for a trench coat in that color FOREVER!! I clicked on your link and placed my order before I even finished reading your post. I hope it looks as great on me as it does on you. I’m wanting it to wear with a couple of floral dresses that I have. Thanks for the ‘find’ and link.
I love this trench! It stayed in my closet and I know that I’ll be wearing it a lot in the next few years.
