Eating Right by 50 is not oldHow many of you had eating right and getting fit on your New Year’s resolution list? I know I did! Now, how many of you are STILL eating right? That is a different question. We all have good intentions, but the implementation is something else. Here is how I am doing.Eating Right by 50 is not old 1Since I decided to “woman up” and tell everyone how much I weighed, here, I am down about 7 pounds. Woohoo!!!! Go me!!! I am especially happy about this considering it was over Thanksgiving and Christmas. Eating Right by 50 is not old 2Do I look thinner? Just kidding! How about this yellow plaid shirt for a pop-of-color? Is this cheery or what? When my daughter was leaving for Alaska, she said she was going to leave me 4 shirts. I like them all, but they are ALL plaid of one shade or another. I really love plaid in somethings, but I have just never been a big fan of plaid shirts. I think I always feel like the Brawny paper towel guy. Is it Brawny, or is it Bounty? Either way, you get the idea. This one is similar.Eating Right by 50 is not old 3But this sunshine yellow print just made my day today. It was 18 degrees when I woke up this morning. I needed a little pick-me-up, so I donned the shirt, which was really old (it had a few rips on the sleeve) and picked out a paid of jeans. I debated back and forth about the kind of sweater I was going to wear. I thought about a completely different color, like red, green, gray, etc, or another shade of blue like cobalt. But, I liked the length of this one by Old Navy. Here is a similar one.Eating Right by 50 is not old 4I carried this purse yesterday, so by default it was chosen. I would have changed if I hadn’t thought it worked with the outfit. Maybe, I would have changed. No, I’m really sure I would have changed. Lol!Eating Right by 50 is not old 5My jewelry is almost all Stella & Dot. Everything except the yellow bakelite bangle which is vintage. The ankle booties are Marc Fisher that I bought at the QVC outlet. I have also been on a “financial diet”, so I have stayed away from the outlet store. HahahaEating Right by 50 is not old 6I am enjoying the weight loss, but that is not the real reason for my diet. My husband had a really high calcium screening score. This is a test that measures the calcium that has built up in the arteries of the heart. So, we are now on a modified mediterranean diet. Mostly vegetables and fruit, and limiting our meat consumption to fish no more than three times a week. Eating Right by 50 is not old 7Salads have also become a everyday staple. I made a huge bowl of a Kale superfood salad. The directions doesn’t tell you to massage the Kale, but that is important. We have a small bowl everyday for lunch. Eating Right by 50 is not old 8I am hoping the diet is working its magic on our veins as well as on our weight. Eating Right by 50 is not old 9As I said, it was bitterly cold this morning. This is what I looked like when I left the house. I added my trusty pea coat and hot pink leather gloves. It was warmer after I added the coat, but I was still freezing. I think this winter has spoiled me. I am now a hot house lily.Eating Right by 50 is not old10I thought you might get a kick out of seeing my mug. Now do you think my preacher was talking to me? Hahaha

  1. Love, Love, this plaid shirt and cardigan!!!

I am a big fan of plaid 🙂
Darn wish I could get the exact plaid, lot’s of times plaids are just not the same. Go YOU on the eating right.
Love from the West Coast ~ NV

  2. Financial Peace University? Where is this? Retirement is scaring me to death! I need help coming to terms with my obsession with clothes and looking good!
My daughter’s wedding was 10 years ago and I still shudder when I think of what we spent. Now she has 4 babies and do I have to tell you how cute Gap Baby is??

  3. Now you’ve got me thinking about plaid shirts! I really like the colors on you. I did maintain weight over Christmas but can’t say I’ve lost much. Maybe a pound. It seems like being over 50 makes it really hard to lose weight!!

  4. So sorry I forgot to congratulate you on your weight loss, you look great!

  5. I am so happy that I found your blog. It helps that we are the same age. I love reading about your outfits each day. I hope you will tell a little more about losing the weight too. Your nails were pretty, what were you wearing?

    1. The nail color is OPI Romeo & Joliet????

  6. I have the same feelings about plaid shirts as you. However, I love this one for the colors!!! Such a “happy” plaid! Looks great with your jeans choice and the blue sweater! Makes your eyes pop!

I’m a teacher and our school nurse led us on a “maintain, don’t gain” challenge over the holidays. We started the day before Halloween and weighed in the last time when we returned after Christmas. I’m proud to say I was down 2 pounds! Not a lot, but I didn’t gain….which was the purpose, right? At the end of January, she is leading us in a weight loss challenge. Can’t wait!

Our daughter graduated from Baylor last May and is in her first job; also a teacher but at the secondary level. She & I are starting Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University tonight. My husband travels and will attend when he can. But this is more about her and getting her off on the right foot. My very girly sorority girl daughter needs a wake up call after being on our “payroll” through college. And, we need some adjusting now that we are officially done….well, except for Miss Thing’s wedding. But that’s a story for another day.

    1. Good luck with the wedding. We had one last year and I am still trying to recover????

  7. I need that shirt. Yellow and blue are my favorite colors! I looked back at your weight post and I didn’t even have to read anything to SEE the weight loss. Great job.

  8. Actually, I saw “massaged kale salad” on a menu not long ago. – Whut??
I googled it, and saw the explanation it cuts down the bitterness & gives a silky texture. I haven’t massaged my salad yet, but willing to give it a try! (Olive oil and tiny bit of salt massage. Sounds like a spa day to me! Ha!).
Kale is an uber healthy food. – Again, 3 cheers for Tania’s weight loss & health journey (and great fashion sense!). With some weight loss, my closet-shopping will surely benefit!

  9. Congrats on the weight loss! I’ve never heard of “massaging kale.” Hmm…

    1. Massaging kale breaks it down, since it is so tough, and also helps with the bitterness.
