Eating Right and Getting Fit
How many of you had eating right and getting fit on your New Year’s resolution list? I know I did! Now, how many of you are STILL eating right? That is a different question. We all have good intentions, but the implementation is something else. Here is how I am doing.
Since I decided to “woman up” and tell everyone how much I weighed, here, I am down about 7 pounds. Woohoo!!!! Go me!!! I am especially happy about this considering it was over Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Do I look thinner? Just kidding! How about this yellow plaid shirt for a pop-of-color? Is this cheery or what? When my daughter was leaving for Alaska, she said she was going to leave me 4 shirts. I like them all, but they are ALL plaid of one shade or another. I really love plaid in somethings, but I have just never been a big fan of plaid shirts. I think I always feel like the Brawny paper towel guy. Is it Brawny, or is it Bounty? Either way, you get the idea. This one is similar.
But this sunshine yellow print just made my day today. It was 18 degrees when I woke up this morning. I needed a little pick-me-up, so I donned the shirt, which was really old (it had a few rips on the sleeve) and picked out a paid of jeans. I debated back and forth about the kind of sweater I was going to wear. I thought about a completely different color, like red, green, gray, etc, or another shade of blue like cobalt. But, I liked the length of this one by Old Navy. Here is a similar one.
I carried this purse yesterday, so by default it was chosen. I would have changed if I hadn’t thought it worked with the outfit. Maybe, I would have changed. No, I’m really sure I would have changed. Lol!
My jewelry is almost all Stella & Dot. Everything except the yellow bakelite bangle which is vintage. The ankle booties are Marc Fisher that I bought at the QVC outlet. I have also been on a “financial diet”, so I have stayed away from the outlet store. Hahaha
I am enjoying the weight loss, but that is not the real reason for my diet. My husband had a really high calcium screening score. This is a test that measures the calcium that has built up in the arteries of the heart. So, we are now on a modified mediterranean diet. Mostly vegetables and fruit, and limiting our meat consumption to fish no more than three times a week.
Salads have also become a everyday staple. I made a huge bowl of a Kale superfood salad. The directions doesn’t tell you to massage the Kale, but that is important. We have a small bowl everyday for lunch.
I am hoping the diet is working its magic on our veins as well as on our weight.
As I said, it was bitterly cold this morning. This is what I looked like when I left the house. I added my trusty pea coat and hot pink leather gloves. It was warmer after I added the coat, but I was still freezing. I think this winter has spoiled me. I am now a hot house lily.
I thought you might get a kick out of seeing my mug. Now do you think my preacher was talking to me? Hahaha
How are your New Year’s Resolutions going?

Tania-just discovered and subscribed to your blog, and I love it! I’m 63 and so appreciate your young, happy attitude, and your delightful fashion sense. You give me so many wardrobe ideas! I am commenting today especially about KALE! I have a garden full of it right now, and just tried the Kale salad you mentioned, and am overjoyed, it is so good. I have learned how to massage kale (LOL!) Just ate the salad with an egg on top for breakfast! Thanks!!
I am totally enjoying your site! My heart sings wearing bright, happy colors and so much of yours are! After going from a 2X to medium, working toward a small, my style and choices have changed dramatically in the last 16 months. Eating healthy and exercise is big part of keeping it off now. I look forward to your posts. They are giving me great ideas of new clothes to try!
YOU are an inspiration, Audrey!
I love your blog!! Just found you on Pinterest. I turned 50 in December. Having trouble figuring out my style last few years. Plus I work in contracting business now before I worked in a office and dressed up. Thank you so much for all of your post. Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated.
Lynn, I work at a lumber company, so I understand about not having to dress-up all the time.I am glad you found me, and I hope you dine your way back.????
I am so glad I got more of your updates.I don’t know how all this works. HOWEVER Lisa Dyan has helped me or tried.ha I am 73 but not dead yet.I check you every day and I am encouraged to try to dress better..Thank you, God Bless
Yay, Alberta!!!
Linda,
Financial Peace University is a Dave Ramsey course. Dave teaches money management from a biblical perspective. It’s usually offered through churches. If you google it, you can go to the site and put in your zip code. Any classes in your area will pop up. This is the first time in years our church (Methodist) isn’t offering it, so we are going to a nearby Lutheran church. Don’t feel like you have to be a member of THAT congregation to join the class. Good luck!

I Love your idea of the “financial diet” Every year my husband and I re evaluate our financial and giving plans. It really helps to put perspective on Gods money that He’s entrusted to us We love Crown Financial Ministry for all we have learned about Biblical giving and Living I don’t feel guilty shopping and our lives seem more balanced.
That blue cardi makes your eyes sparkle and your cute jokes make me smile
????
Love, Love, this plaid shirt and cardigan!!!
I am a big fan of plaid 🙂
Darn wish I could get the exact plaid, lot’s of times plaids are just not the same. Go YOU on the eating right.
Love from the West Coast ~ NV
Financial Peace University? Where is this? Retirement is scaring me to death! I need help coming to terms with my obsession with clothes and looking good!
My daughter’s wedding was 10 years ago and I still shudder when I think of what we spent. Now she has 4 babies and do I have to tell you how cute Gap Baby is??
Now you’ve got me thinking about plaid shirts! I really like the colors on you. I did maintain weight over Christmas but can’t say I’ve lost much. Maybe a pound. It seems like being over 50 makes it really hard to lose weight!!
Really pretty today!
Thanks Coco!
So sorry I forgot to congratulate you on your weight loss, you look great!
Awww, thanks Penny!
I am so happy that I found your blog. It helps that we are the same age. I love reading about your outfits each day. I hope you will tell a little more about losing the weight too. Your nails were pretty, what were you wearing?
The nail color is OPI Romeo & Joliet????
I have the same feelings about plaid shirts as you. However, I love this one for the colors!!! Such a “happy” plaid! Looks great with your jeans choice and the blue sweater! Makes your eyes pop!
I’m a teacher and our school nurse led us on a “maintain, don’t gain” challenge over the holidays. We started the day before Halloween and weighed in the last time when we returned after Christmas. I’m proud to say I was down 2 pounds! Not a lot, but I didn’t gain….which was the purpose, right? At the end of January, she is leading us in a weight loss challenge. Can’t wait!
Our daughter graduated from Baylor last May and is in her first job; also a teacher but at the secondary level. She & I are starting Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University tonight. My husband travels and will attend when he can. But this is more about her and getting her off on the right foot. My very girly sorority girl daughter needs a wake up call after being on our “payroll” through college. And, we need some adjusting now that we are officially done….well, except for Miss Thing’s wedding. But that’s a story for another day.
Good luck with the wedding. We had one last year and I am still trying to recover????
I need that shirt. Yellow and blue are my favorite colors! I looked back at your weight post and I didn’t even have to read anything to SEE the weight loss. Great job.
Actually, I saw “massaged kale salad” on a menu not long ago. – Whut??
I googled it, and saw the explanation it cuts down the bitterness & gives a silky texture. I haven’t massaged my salad yet, but willing to give it a try! (Olive oil and tiny bit of salt massage. Sounds like a spa day to me! Ha!).
Kale is an uber healthy food. – Again, 3 cheers for Tania’s weight loss & health journey (and great fashion sense!). With some weight loss, my closet-shopping will surely benefit!
Congrats on the weight loss! I’ve never heard of “massaging kale.” Hmm…
Massaging kale breaks it down, since it is so tough, and also helps with the bitterness.
I think the outfit is very flattering for you and definitely makes you look slim! Plaids are fun…I even bought my hubby a flannel buffalo plaid shirt that I made him wear during the holidays…These men need so much help with keeping up the fashion trends ; ) Enjoy your week!
My husband wears khaki’s everyday. The same brand, the same style. He must have 25 or more of those pants. Hahaha
Way to go on the weight loss, Tania! So far, only holding my own here. Weight drops off when it gets good & ready! Patience! – Today’s look is great! No lumber-jack on you! The yellow w/navy is so perky! -Stay warm! 🙂
Super cute outfit!!! You have given me so many great ideas for outfits. I just love it!!! I need more of this blue color….I have a few things and I always feel good in it so might as well add more right?? Great job on the weight loss!! I have a tendency to get very obsessive with dieting and exercise so this year I have decided to not weigh myself…I’m just exercising daily and watching what I eat and let it all play out from there! 🙂 I have found that I’m much happier!
I agree about weighing yourself. If you haven’t lost weight, and you have been trying so hard, it is disappointing. I weigh, but don’t worry if it goes up somedays, I just figure it will come back down in the next day or two. It has a lot to do with water consumption and retention. I am staying with the healthy eating, I don’t care if I even lose more weight.
that is the perfect combination of colors in the plaid for you. I’d love wearing it! The only problem I have with the plaid shirts that I love is that most require ironing, so I don’t wear them often…. they get lonely in my closet, LOL
I am still eating pretty healthy, but the pounds are not shedding away yet. ugh.
Congrats on your weight loss!! I’m on the same journey, I know how challenging it is. I love the pop of yellow, so cheery! I really liked how you tucked your shirt too, very cute. Your nails are gorgeous. Goals!
You look fantastic!! Your outfit is cute – love the plaid shirt. Keep up the good work on your weight loss. I have heard that the Mediterranean diet is a good one. Have a great day!!
Thanks gurls! I’ll tell my daughter her shirt was a hit ????
Wow good job on the weight loss that is truly something to be proud of. Great color choice today.
What a great outfit, I love the bright colors in the plaid and the sweater. I so enjoy waking up every morning and reading your blog and seeing what you’re styling, it makes my day!
Wow Tania you look fabulous!!!
I was looking for ideas for what to wear to a business fundraiser I’m attending with DH on Friday, and came across your blog. I enjoyed reading your post. Congratulations on the healthful eating and weight loss:)
