THIS YEAR’S TOP COATS AND JACKETS FOR WOMEN
Are you looking for coats and jackets that are trending this year, then Nordstrom has everything you need. You might be wondering, “which ones do I need to invest in?” “Are there certain coats and jackets that I must-have for fall and winter?” If you’ve had any of these thoughts, you are not alone. Navigating the expansive selections of coats and jackets can be exhausting, but I’ve got a few to show you today that will keep you looking stylish this fall and winter.
Coats and jackets are a fall and winter staple for most of us. The weather has already started to have a nip in the air most days, and Jack Frost has turned the leaves from green to golden yellow. Before venturing outdoors, I always make sure that I wear a coat or have one handy in my car.
Some factors determine our choices for coats and jackets. If you live in a colder area, you will be looking for heavier, insulated ones. Here in Virginia, I need a variety of coats and jackets since it can be mild one day and below freezing the next. But, some people only need a lightweight coat or jacket to get them through the winter.
Another factor to consider is your lifestyle. Do you go to work every day? Are you in need of a dressy coat, or is a casual coat more your style? What type of materials do you prefer for your coats and jackets?
Coats and Jackets come in a wide variety of styles and materials. Cotton, wool, leather, suede, faux, or blends are just a few fabrics available to you.
You also have to think about the style of coat or jacket that you want. Bomber, motorcycle (moto), cargo, utility, puffer, denim, shacket, or vests are styles to choose from when looking for fall and winter jackets.
Coats also come in a wide range of styles and lengths. I’ll choose a long cashmere or wool coat for dressier occasions, but shorter coats are my choice for casual days.
Coats and jackets, in all kinds of styles and materials, can be found at Nordstrom. The Nordstrom Made brands are my go-to when searching for clothing because they are well made and affordable. Plus, there are many popular styles, so I am sure to find everything I need.
Puffer Vests
Puffer vests are warm, and they let your arms move around freely. This is great if you are walking outdoors or working on a project. This Zella Recycled Polyester Puffer Vest contains at least 50% sustainably sourced materials, and that is only one of the reasons that I love this vest.
The metallic lining grabbed my attention, but it is the style that I love. The puffer has a removable belt, so leave the belt on if you like a belted look. I removed it since I prefer the vest left open.
The curved hem is a great feature that is great for covering your bottom. The hem comes down way past my hips, so I won’t be worried about bending over if I am out in public.
The puffer vest does have a drawstring hood that you can cinch for a tighter fit if needed. This puffer runs big, so you need to size down. I am wearing a medium, and you can see that it is oversized on me.
This plaid puffer vest has its own unique detail; it’s reversible! Clothing that can be worn in multiple ways saves you money and extends your wardrobe. Plaid is always a huge trend in the fall, and this black and white plaid puffer is a classic combination that can be worn for years.
When you flip the vest to the black side, you still see the plaid pattern peeking out. The plaid in the hood looks cute and gives the puffer vest some visual interest, plus it draws attention to your face.
The puffer is also long enough to cover your backside, so wearing leggings wouldn’t be an issue. I think the Zella recycled puffer is a little more “puffed,” but this one is plenty warm, and you will look like you have two vests for the price of one.
I’m wearing a medium in this reversible plaid puffer vest, and it fits me better than the Zella. I would say this one runs true to size, so you should order your normal size.
Utility Jacket
Olive green is a color that I’ve never worn before, and now I can’t get enough of it. This camo utility jacket is a perfect lightweight jacket for fall. Most of the time, utility jackets are stiff, but this one is soft and comfortable. That was a pleasant surprise when I took it out of the packaging.
A drawstring waist helps to cinch the waist, which is a lovely feminine detail. You can leave it loose if you prefer the oversized look, but I like it when clothing helps to create curves.
This camo utility jacket is long enough to wear leggings, but it would look great with jeans. I am wearing a medium, and it fits me nicely. If I wanted to wear it with a heavy sweater, I might size up to a large one.
Motorcycle Jacket
If you want to age backwards by ten years, then grab yourself a leather/suede/faux moto jacket! Last Saturday, I wore this black leather jacket on our date night, and Joe might have salivated when he walked in. Lol!
Here is the look from the back so that you can see the length of the jacket. It isn’t as long as the previous jackets, so you might not want to wear it with leggings. However, it looks fabulous with jeans, which is what I wore for our date night.
The hardware is heavy and sturdy, the leather is soft and subtle, and the hoodie is removable. What more could you ask for??? I am wearing a large so that I can wear it with heavier sweaters this winter, and it fits true to size. This leather moto jacket is also available in plus sizes.
If you are like me, then you probably think of black leather when you hear moto jackets mentioned. This plaid moto jacket is so unique, and the colors are fabulous for fall. This plaid moto jacket combines edgy, polished, and classic styles all rolled into one. I am wearing a medium in the jacket, and it fits me perfectly!
Bomber Jackets
This quilted bomber jacket is perfect for ladies on the go. It looks great, keeps you warm, and is made from 100% recycled polyester.
This is such a cute sporty jacket for running errands; you’ll find yourself reaching for it often. The jacket has slant pockets and a drawcord toggle waist that ensures a great fit. I love the color of this jacket, but I’m not sure the name, gray sparrow, is the best description. I wouldn’t call this gray, but I love it no matter the name.
The quilted bomber jacket is about the same length as the leather moto jacket. This is an ideal length for jeans, but you might not be comfortable wearing it with leggings. I am wearing a medium, and I find that the jacket runs true to size.
Faux-leather Moto Vest
This faux-leather croc-embossed moto vest is so fun, cool, and edgy! If you like the edginess of a moto jacket, but find them too heavy, then you will love this vest.
In the fall, a heavy moto jacket can be too warm; this vest would be a great alternative. The puffer design would keep you warm, and the croc-embossed design is so chic.
This croc-embossed moto jacket hits me at my hips, so probably not long enough for leggings. I can’t wait to try this vest with a pair of jeans, and Joe might need to get the motorcycle out and take me for a ride. I am wearing a medium, and it fits me great.
Longline coat
I had to show you at least one long coat. This black and white plaid longline coat has a gorgeous shawl collar and can be left open or belted. Normally, I would wear this with heels, but I only had my Chelsea boots with me today, so you’ll have to use your imagination. Lol!
I buttoned and belted the coat to show you the fit. Unless I am freezing, I usually leave my coats unbuttoned, and I tie the belt in the back or remove it altogether. This coat hits me below my knees, so it is a great coat to wear with dresses.
Here is the view from the back, and it is definitely long enough to wear with leggings. Lol!
Shacket
One of the season’s hottest trends is the shacket. The shacket is a combination of a shirt and a jacket, and it is usually oversized and relaxed. I would recommend reading the reviews about sizing, but I’ve found that I need to size down in them.
Faux-Fur Coats and Jackets
Faux-fur coats and jackets are FUN! They add whimsy and flair to any outfit, and I love wearing them, especially around the Holidays. Here is a couple that caught my eye, and some of them come in several different colors.
I am wearing a gray v-neck cashmere sweater in medium (comes in lots of colors as is on sale), faux-leather leggings in large, and Tan Desert suede Chelsea boots in size 9.
I am wearing this cozy, incredibly soft, lightweight gray hoodie in a few of the photos. I’m wearing a medium hoodie, and it fits true to size. I think that I’ll re-order the faux-leather leggings in a medium since they seem a little bit too big. But I love these Chelsea boots, and I’ll be wearing them with everything this fall!
Everything I’m wearing today can be purchased at Nordstrom, and with their free shipping and free returns, it is super convenient. I love trying on clothing in the privacy of my home, but I hate paying for shipping and returns. That is just one reason I love shopping at Nordstrom; it never costs me anything to try new clothing styles. Nordstrom also offers BOPUS (Buy Online Pick Up in Store) and contactless curbside pickup options.

I LOVE the quilted bomber jacket!
They all look good, but my favorites are the black moto jacket and the camouflage utility jacket.
Utility is my favorite. You look good in all. On the coast we just need windbreakers most of the time but I have 3/4 trench, denim unlined, bomber lined, and lightly quilted jacket.
I live in hoodies with zip over sweaters most Winters.
You look great in all of the coats and vests. And you sure can pull of wearing the faux leather pants! I am curious about how many of these you actually kept. Nordstrom is one of my favorite go-to stores.
Love all the looks, but the long coat is my favorite.
The Shawl Collar Coat is beautiful, love. 😍
Wow what a great shopping post. The vests you wore were my favorite and they work well for our weather.
Love all of the jackets. The moto is my favorite!
