Gurls, I am most certainly NOT petite, but I’m not letting that stop me. Today, I’m bringing you chic and affordable mother-of-the-bride dresses for petites because I’ve heard you! So many commenters have asked for more posts specifically for those of you 5’4″ and under, and I get it. Finding your right fit can be difficult. Today’s featured items are all available in petite, AND the most expensive dress listed is just $258 dollars. That’s cheaper than a lot of blue jeans!

Before we get started, I thought you might like to see what I wore as Mother-of-the-Groom at my son’s wedding. This was from 2016, but I still love it. Sadly, it sold out years and years ago.

I love this! A square neckline is so elegant, and they are very on-trend this year. The beaded detailing on the sleeves takes this dress from simple to straight-up gorgeous. I know there are some people who just can’t bring themselves to wear black to such a happy occasion as a wedding, and navy is a great option.

Would you have guessed that this is the most expensive dress on today’s post? I’m not sure that I would have, but only because they all look expensive to me! I love the dark green metallic fabric and the halter neckline. You’ll notice on my dress above that I added a shawl. Like a lot of you, I don’t love my upper arms, but I wouldn’t let that stop me from wearing this gorgeous dress.

Of course, not every Mother-of-the-Bride dress has to be floor length. This is very pretty and totally appropriate. If you have the legs, why not show them?! It’s pictured here in plum, but it’s also available in navy. All of the reviews are great, but they do say that it runs small, so adjust accordingly.

This dress is beautiful, with or without the jacket! Featuring another square necklace, and wide straps, you would have no trouble wearing this with a bra. The shimmering bodice is very flattering, and the jacket is stretchy, so it should fit well and be comfortable.

This would be great for a wedding, either as a participant or a guest! There’s a lot to love about his dress – the elbow-length sleeves, the flattering V-neck, the tie at the waist, and of course, the sparkly skirt. Reviewers say that this dress runs large, so you might want to size down.

Another navy dress! I told you that it’s a very popular color for weddings. This is for those of you who like a little more coverage. Although it looks like two pieces, it’s really just one dress. Can’t you just picture this with a beautiful corsage pinned to the bodice? And even though it’s not showing any skin, it’s not matronly at all. Fits true to size.

ANOTHER navy dress, but don’t worry; it actually comes in two other colors – black and charcoal. Lol! These dresses have such pretty necklines. This wide V isn’t quite off the shoulder and would look flattering on almost everyone except those with wide shoulders. I love the beaded closure on the hip and the elbow sleeves and, of course, this little tidbit from the website: “Made with our Best Selling Slimming & Smoothing Compression Fabric”. What is this fabric, and why isn’t everything made from it??

Look, a dress that’s not navy! I love this in eggplant but don’t worry if you don’t. Yes, it’s available in navy, too. Ha. The reviews say that this is too heavy for summer, but since we’re barreling toward fall, it should work well. And need I say it? It has POCKETS! You have to have some place to carry all that tissue, right?

This dress would work for a lot of formal occasions, which is always a plus. Not only would it be totally appropriate for a wedding, but this would look nice for a work party, cocktails at a reception, or even a fancy date night celebrating a milestone. It comes in a few variations of colors and embellishments, so if you don’t love this, take a look around and see what else they offer.

Let me know which dress you like best! Speaking of weddings, I loved My Big Fat Greek Wedding when it came out. I don’t remember seeing the 2nd one. What do you think about this trailer? If nothing else, it makes me want to visit Greece!

  19. This was a very timely post for me, as I’m right in the middle of trying to select a mother of bride dress. It pretty much sums up what I’ve found if you don’t want Navy or a dark color there is nothing available in petite. I have now ordered and returned 4 dresses. I am now thinking of going with custom vendor like Jjs house. I don’t think I should be that hard to fit! (5’3″ size 8 or 10). And regular dresses I’ve tried require too much alteration.
