CAN SMALL TWEAKS MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE
You gurls seemed to like the brown and black outfit from yesterday. Today, I am styling the same color combinations, but I’m making a few small tweaks. Before I go into the details of this classic outfit, let’s talk about how January went and what the goals for February are going to be. It is good to look back at the previous month and analyze it to see what went great and what needs to be tweaked.
Making Small Tweaks in Goals
My goals for January were only to drink water and black coffee. That was an easy goal for me, and I accomplished that goal with no issues. The second goal was not to eat any additional sweets such as cookies, cakes, candy, ice cream, etc. That was harder for me since I am a sweet-aholic. But, I stuck with it and somehow survived the month.
I was also trying to implement fasting back into my routine, and I started doing the Faster Way to Weight Loss program. I had done it in the past but found it to be too confusing. They have made small tweaks to the program, and it is easier to use now. I didn’t stick with it completely because keeping a food log and hitting certain macro targets were required. Instead, I came up with a few meals that I knew would work as far as the macros go and ate those.
Now it is time to look at my February goals. I am sticking with the baby steps method and looking at each month at a time instead of the whole year. I will stick with the water and no sweets goal, but I am adding one tweak. Valentine’s Day is in a few days, so I know that Joe always buys me chocolate covered strawberries. I want to enjoy these without any guilt, so I am saying that I can have ONE treat per week. That way, I can stick with my plan and not feel guilty when I have my strawberries or the occasional glass of wine.
With fasting, I am going to figure out my eating window and stick with that this month. I know that putting everything into a food log is optimal for weight loss and staying on track, but I can’t add one more thing to my plate right now. Lol! Get it…adding to my plate. Hahaha
Making Small Tweaks in my color combinations
Yesterday’s post mentioned that brown and black colors had an impact on how others view you. If you didn’t read that post, then check it out to see that information. Today, I am taking the same colors, but I am wearing black on the top half and changing the solid brown to a brown plaid. I could have titled this a “shop your closet” post since these are all things that I already had.
The black turtleneck is a classic wardrobe staple, and everyone should have this in their closet. I have shied away from turtlenecks in the past because I thought they brought too much attention to my chin(s). But, since I love turtlenecks and the chins are still there whether you can see them or not, I decided to wear them anytime that I pleased. Plus, they keep all of my chin(s) toasty warm. Lol!
Mine is a cashmere turtleneck that was on sale for a long time, so it is no longer available. You don’t have to wear the exact turtleneck that I am wearing; you can pull one from your closet. If you don’t have a black turtleneck, or you need to purchase a new one, I’ll link some for you.
Gold, gold, gold seems to be all that I ever wear. I have always preferred gold to silver, but I am not giving silver jewelry a fair shake. A friend of mine, yes, I am talking about you, Kim, sent me a photo of her silver jewelry collection. It was beautiful, and I am going to order several pieces to see how I like it. Which color do you prefer, or do you have a preference?
The jewelry that I am wearing is the Fallyn hoop earrings. I love the details of the hoops, and these are the perfect size for everyday wear. I added the Maggie filigree bangle to the look. This bangle was one of my first Kendra Scott purchases, and it continues to be a favorite of mine. Lastly, I added the Jack multi-chain necklace worn backwards. Wearing this necklace backwards makes it so versatile, and you can wear it with almost anything. The necklace is on sale for over $30.00 off, so be sure to grab it while it is on sale.
The stylish and modern look of these pants is perfect, and I can’t get over this fabric’s feel. I am almost as obsessed over the fit of these glen plaid faux suede pants as I am about the fabric. These fit so nicely, and you will love the pull-on style of the pants. The pants look like jeans with faux button closure and pockets, but they feel like your favorite leggings.
These pants have a wonderful amount of stretch, so that sitting will be a breeze. These pants run true to size, and I am wearing my usual size 10 in these. I love plaid pants, but I prefer that the pattern matches up as it does on these. Here are a few more to choose from, and the pattern looks to be correct. Lol!
Ahhhh, my Lex pointy-toe boots! I should have inserted a heart emoji here. I do love wearing these booties, and I have certainly gotten my money’s worth from them. Joe and I were going out of town when I put on this outfit, and he questioned my choice of shoes. He loved the look but was worried about them bothering me on our excursion. I wore them all day long and didn’t have any problem at all.
These suede boots have a 3 1/2″ chunky block heel, and they are very stable as you walk. I have always loved the soft neutral color of the boots, and the pointy toe helps to elongate my legs. These boots run true to size, and I am wearing my normal size 9.
I am still enamored with my Louis Vuitton Neonoe handbag. This handbag’s smaller size is taking me some getting used to, but I am adjusting nicely. I asked a friend of mine who carried small bags how she did it. She responded that she kept a tote in her vehicle that had everything in it that she might need, and she only carried the necessities in her handbag. I may have to try that trick. Have any of you tried something similar to that?
I was on Instagram yesterday when a lady reached out to me and asked for prayers. She told me that she had lost her job back in October (thanks, COVID) and that she was trying to figure out what her next step would be. We chatted back and forth, I prayed for her, and then I asked her if she would be interested in an online business that she could work from her computer or phone. We have a phone call scheduled for later tonight to see if this will be a good fit for her. I have no idea if this will work for her, but when I got finished scheduling the call, I couldn’t stop thinking about how thankful that I was to have my online businesses.
An email from Linkedin came in while I was typing, and it was asking how COVID has impacted my business. It said that women had lost more jobs than men, are getting hired less, and take on more responsibilities at home. Then, I spoke with my sister, and she told me that a HUGE mall right down the road from her went into foreclosure. Brick and mortar stores all over the country are suffering, and people are looking for alternative ways to earn money. A few industries are growing during this time; one is beauty, and the other is network marketing.
I understand that this business is not for everyone, and that is okay. If you or anyone you know wants to hear more about my skincare business, let me give you a link. It will be anonymous; you don’t have to show your face or participate in the call. You can be a fly on the wall to see if this is a good fit for you. Click for the link.

Nehemiah 9:10
10 You sent signs and wonders against Pharaoh, against all his officials and all the people of his land, for you knew how arrogantly the Egyptians treated them. You made a name for yourself, which remains to this day.
I love your outfit. The boots look great, and I would wear them if they had a low heel. I wear both silver and gold, depending on what I wear. Speaking of goals, I eat a mostly whole food plant based diet which doesn’t require require counting calories, and I’m never hungry. For quicker weight loss, half the plate is filled with veggies, and you just eat until you’re full. There are also recipes for desserts which don’t use processed foods.
Angie, I would LOVE to eat a whole food plant-based diet. But, Joe is a meat, meat, and a side of meat kind of guy.
Great look.
Thanks, Laura!
Hi Tania,
My New Years resolution was to ditch social media and I do miss you on Instagram!
Congrats on the black coffee. Milk in my coffee is my Achilles heel, I swear. You’ve inspired me to clean up my act. So today after your blog hit my inbox, I got another blog that said (in part) the following. Please fellow gurls read the last paragraph.
When you consume an abundance of ultraprocessed foods, it’s not only a matter of taking in “empty calories” or too many calories that cause weight gain; instead, it triggers a catastrophic cascade of health declines rooted in mitochondrial dysfunction and insulin resistance.
Ultraprocessed foods damage health because they contain high amounts of industrially processed seed oils, often referred to as “vegetable oils,” along with refined sugar and grains.
For weight loss, I recommend adopting a cyclical ketogenic diet and avoiding all ultraprocessed foods and also limiting added sugars to a maximum of 25 grams per day (15 grams a day If you’re insulin resistant or diabetic)
Me again. I cannot eat over about 50 g carbs daily, even if they are non grain sources. Like carrots, beets and sweet potatoes. Very hard to lose while eating those. But can use them to maintain. Go figure.
I did read a bit more on your plan’s method. I especially love the no-scale approach. There’s an over 60 Reddit group for ladies and super supportive for all us anti Facebook people.
It’s amazing that one pant size down makes a huge difference. Good job! You look great.
Milk or creamer, in my coffee was my Achilles heel also. I decided that I could do anything for one month, so I stuck with it.
I wear both, but more silver since I have gone to my natural salt and pepper hair color!
Oh, I hadn’t thought about that. Good point, Teresa.
I’m a silver girl, but I do occasionally wear gold when it looks better with the outfit. Love the pants, but I try not to call that much attention to my short, very solid legs.
Silver for sure! Gold looks beautiful on others, but not me. I have a few pieces of gold, but def prefer silver. I know you love bright colors, but that black sure does look great on you!
It is funny, Melesa, I love gold, but my daughter and sister are both silvers wearers.
Beautiful look!!!
Thanks!
I have heard that people with cool skin tones look better in silver and those with warm skin tone look better in gold. Neutral skin tones wear both gold and silver. This goes back to color seasons. Love your blog. patval
Thanks, Patval. I like wearing both together, but I just naturally gravitate toward gold most of the time.
Another great outfit! I love the color combo.
I am currently carrying a Brahmin mini Amelia handbag. She’s pretty small. I usually carry my Louis Vuitton Neverfull.
I’ve decided that I need to start carrying a smaller handbag because I’ve started having back / shoulder pain. I love the idea of keeping my other items in a tote in my car. I’m going to have to try that.
Connie, I need to do the tote idea also. I keep my driver’s license and a couple of credit cards in my phone wallet, so I usually just carry that if I go shopping.
Great outfit! I like to mix metals but will also consider the color I am wearing as to whether I choose gold or silver. I am so excited they are finally making the Maggie bangle in a larger size option!! yay!!! Do you feel better now that you aren’t drinking soda? I love my diet Coke at lunch time and realize I should give it up and just drink water instead. Keep up the great work!!
Gayle, I love mixing metals also, but when I was young you had to choose one or the other. I am not a fan of water, but, after drinking it for a month, I am getting better and almost craving it. If I didn’t have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night it would be better. Lol!
