Best Eyeshadow Colors for Your Eye Color
Hey Gurls! Let’s talk about one of my favorite beauty tricks—choosing the best eyeshadow colors to make your eyes pop! Like picking the right outfit, picking the right eyeshadow shades can take your eyes from “okay” to “wow!” It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes, or hazel eyes; there are colors out there that’ll bring out your sparkle and highlight what you’ve got going on. We’re using a little bit of color theory, a few amazing palettes, and a whole lot of fun to find your perfect match. And don’t worry, I included some easy-to-apply options and shimmer pops to help you glow! Let’s dive in.

Best Eyeshadow Colors for Blue Eyes
Blue eyes sparkle with copper, taupe, and rose gold. These tones are across the color wheel from blue, which makes your eyes look even bluer and brighter. It’s the perfect pop of color without going wild.
CoverGirl Eye Enhancers – Tapestry Taupe
This taupe shade is a soft, neutral classic. It’s a great everyday eye shadow that adds a little something without taking over your look. Use it in the crease or all over the lid for a subtle shimmer that brings out your blue eyes.
Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-Eyes in Rose Gold
Whew, Gurl—this is the luxury pick! But it’s worth it. Charlotte Tilbury is one of my all time faves! The rose gold hue is warm and glowy and makes blue eyes look dreamy. You can build it up for a special event or wear it lightly for church or brunch with the family.
e.l.f. Rose Gold Sunset Eyeshadow Palette
You get a full palette of shimmer and matte shades here, all in the rose gold family. I love that this one gives you lots of options for layering and blending, and it works beautifully with cool or warm skin tones. It’s also cruelty-free, which Mattie would be proud of—she loves animals!
Best Eyeshadow Colors for Brown Eyes
Brown eyes are the most versatile of all! You can wear just about anything, but if you want those eyes to truly pop, go with bronze, plum, or champagne shades. These colors add depth, warmth, and a little glow that brings your eyes to life.
Clinique Plum All About Shadow Duo
This duo gives you the perfect purples and plum tones to make brown eyes pop. It’s great for sensitive eyes and blends like a dream with just a small brush. I’d use the deeper hue in the crease and the lighter one on the lid for a simple, everyday look with a little drama.
L’Oreal Paris Le Shadow Stick – Twinkly Rose
Talk about easy! This champagne shade glides right on the lid and gives you that soft, glowy highlight. It’s creamy, blendable, and gives a pretty sparkle without being over the top. Perfect for mornings when you’re sipping coffee while trying to get out the door!
Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Eyeshadow Stick
This one’s a winner, especially if you want depth and a bit of shimmer. The bronze tone is warm and golden and works great for older skin—no pulling or tugging. I’d add a little to the lower lash line, too, for a soft liner effect that’s flattering and not too harsh.
Best Eyeshadow Colors for Hazel Eyes
Hazel eyes are a fun combo of green, gold, and brown, so you get to play with a lot of colors. Olive green, warm browns, and deep purples are the magic mix for this eye color.
Maybelline Color Tattoo – I Am Fierce
This shadow stick in a deep green shimmer is bold and blendable. It’s a great pick if you want a quick eye makeup look that still packs a punch. The olive tone enhances those green flecks and adds depth to your gaze. You can’t go wrong with Maybelline.
wet n wild Color Icon – Mesmerized
This one’s affordable and has plum tones that are made for hazel eyes. The matte and shimmer options blend smoothly, and the color stays on all day. Use it in the outer corner or lower lash line for an eye look that really pops!
Milani Gilded Mini Eyeshadow Palette – Whiskey Business
This warm brown palette is perfect for creating that soft, smoky look with lots of warmth. The hues are rich and earthy and can be worn day or night. I like to blend a bit of shimmer on the lid and keep a matte tone in the crease—looks polished without trying too hard.
Best Eyeshadow Colors for Green Eyes
Green eyes shine bright with burgundy, mossy green, and peachy coral. These colors contrast just enough to bring out the richness of your eyes and make everything around them glow.
wet n wild Color Icon Eyeshadow – Envy
This is a striking green that goes on silky and looks amazing on green eyes. It’s great for adding dimension to your lid without overwhelming the eye. Just blend it into the crease or along your upper lash line for a soft boost of color.
EBIN NEW YORK Secret of Pharaoh Eyeshadow Palette – Coral Oasis
Peach and coral tones really enhance green eyes, and this palette gives you both matte and shimmer options. The color payoff is strong, and the formula is easy to blend. Perfect for spring or summer when you want something bright but wearable.
Maybelline The Burgundy Bar Eyeshadow Palette
With 13 colors to choose from, this one gives you tons of eye makeup looks in one place. The burgundy and gold tones are especially flattering for green eyes, and the formula blends like a dream. This palette has just enough sparkle to make things fun but is still classy enough for Sunday service.

Blue shadows make brown eyes pop, not sure why this was not even mentioned.
Thank you! I loved this post so much!
What about grey eyes?
I need everything in this post! ha ha
Hi, I’m new. My go-to has always been a mauve on the lid with a dusty purple in the crease, or a light gold on the lid with a light-medium brown in the crease. I’ve always heard that copper is a great choice, but I don’t like it on myself. Your rose-gold recommendation is a great one!
Thank you for the suggestions for eye makeup. I will have to practice.
I have big deep set dark brown almond eyes that looked much bigger when I was younger they looked huge and gorgeous when I was a baby and child.
I look best in warm yellow based shades because I was a natural redhead ( without freckles thankfully) and so I have the typical yellow warm undertone in my skin and I have very light skin so the shades of eyeshadow you recommended for other eye colors like copper and gold and even green ( but warm green) look very good on my eyes
I’m glad those colors work for you.
Found it
Thank you for this post. I have been finding it hard to find palettes for green eyes in stores. Loved your suggestions ❤️.
Thank for the suggestions based on eye color. my favorite find i want to try is EBIN NEW YORK Secret of Pharaoh Eyeshadow Palette
Good old Maybelline tattoo! Love these sticks, have multiple colors. Lasts forever and great collection of shades!
I like Elf eyeshadows. I’m glad I remembered you said no smiley face. I already wasted 5 minutes looking for it on the first post. Lol.
🤣
I have brown eyes, never thought to try plum or purple tones
As I’ve gotten older I have defaulted to very neutral eye shadow. I have green eyes so thank you for this post. Might need to add a little color back into the mix!
So informative! Thank you! 🙂
I would like some suggestions for dressing for events such as graduation, Easter, funerals etc. Especially in spring when you need a jacket or sweater. Thanks
Thanks you for this post! I have green eyes and can always use ideas for eyeshadow colors!
Thanks. Eyeshadows I loved always disappear. It is hard to sort through them all and find creamy ones!
My eyes are brown, thank you for reminding me to wear plum tones!
You just inspired me to pick up a few brighter spring/summer color eyeshadows! Thank you!
Thank you for this! Almay cosmetics did this over 20 years ago and it really helped me but I don’t see them in stores any more, so, very glad you have done this.
Great post! I am a bright steely teal-eyed gurl, and always wear shadows that are in the champagne/peach/copper/brown families. I just picked up the “Honeysuckle” shadow palette from Jane Iredale. I’m also eyeing their “Wildflower” one as well. My previous palette was Tarte Glamazon To Go. I didn’t like the one color (volcanic – a maroon), but the rest were great for me!
I may have to try one of the green ones
I have been looking for a “green” eyeshadow! Thank you for doing the “leg work”.
I usually go with shades of brown but I will have to try plum or burgundy.
I love this post. I have green eyes and I’m always wondering what color eye shadow to wear.
I’m glad this post helped!
I love trying new eye colors
I love creme eye shadow!
Thank you for the tips!
Great suggestions!
brown eyed gurl here! I like the champagne color.
This is such a great post! I always wonder if I’m doing my eyeshadow correctly. Do you use a eyeshadow primer? If so which one do you recommend for a girl in her late 60s?
I don’t use a primer. I usually just apply a thin layer of a neutral shade first, and then start to apply the other colors.
I use an eye shadow primer from Merle Norman and feel like it makes my shadow glide on and wear longer.
good advice. will try these
